Tweet here

The LCSPA is in ongoing discussions with Riot about the makeup of the NACL in 2024. We do not expect any changes to the NACL in 2023, and we strongly oppose any such consideration.

Further, the LCSPA does not anticipate any significant changes to import rules in NA.

No surprise here, the Players Association has always backed the challenger scene and local talent.

I do find it interesting they seem certain there wont be any import changes. Curious if Riot will make an official statement regarding this or if this is the extent of what we will get about it.

Source is LCS Eevee - journalist for TGHEsports (thegamehaus)

https://twitter.com/LCS_Eevee/status/1663198114268733440?s=20

[Sources] LCS Remains on Schedule, Teams have been Granted Permission to Sign Additional Players Post-Roster Lock. Meanwhile the @NALCSPA is working to Mitigate Signings LCS orgs are obligated to play due to contract with Riot #LCS

This is some shit now. This is looking to be a massive shitshow now.

I'm guessing a bunch of ex-acad and NACL players will play. Maybe some will even be flown out to play.

With all this I truly wonder how long the walk-out will be? The way I see it, this could really cause this whole thing to be a long affair. I cuoldn't blame the players for extending the walkout in this case. But if it goes too long, Worlds qualification might be affected.. Who knows what will happen here.

Obviously take it all with a grain of salt.

For those who don't have access or use a screen reader:

The LCSPA thanks Bjergsen for his service to the LCS as both a professional player and as a member of the leadership of the PA. With his retirement, he also departs our Executive Committee. We are forever grateful for his involvement, commitment, and guidance during his time with the LCSPA. A legend in the scene, his leadership will be missed.

We are delighted to announce that Fudge has been appointed to the Executive Committee by the remaining leadership, and he has accepted the role. Fudge brings a breadth of experience and insight to the committee that will aid the LCSPA in improving the well-being of all players. We look forward to what we can continue to build together.

Riot's Lack of Commitment to the NACL: The LCSPA's Response

LCS PA Riot's Lack of Commitment to the NACL: The LCSPA's Response Three weeks ago, Riot claimed to be building the future of sports globally. Today, Riot abandoned that future in North America. While the statement today was framed as a commitment to the NACL, the reality is that as many as 70 players, coaches, and managers will lose their jobs overnight. The unprecedented decision to destroy the NACL less than a month before the start of the 2023 NACL Summer Split with no plan - and no warning is a stain on their leadership.

Riot's decision to eliminate the NACL mandate was in direct contradiction of statements made to the PA by Riot leadership throughout talks earlier this year regarding future NACL changes. Riot esports leadership gave the LCSPA assurances that no changes would be made in 2023 as recently as one week ago. The LCSPA is calling on all members of the LCS and NACL community: players, coaches, streamers, and fans to stand up in unison and demand for Riot to reverse this decision in order to protect the future of the LCS. We must protect the NACL today to ensure any future for the LCS tomorrow. To put the magnitude of this decision in context: over 50% of current LCS pros came up through the NACL/Academy system. The promotion of home-grown talent fuels financial savings for teams and ignites fans around the next generation of LCS talent, and the impact of this decision on the league's future cannot be overstated.

Today's decision is a hollow attempt to appease team owner's demands for increased financial support. Claims that the NACL is in any way responsible for team financial instability are false; the average annual salary cost of an entire NACL roster represents less than 17% of an average LCS organization's League-based salary costs in a year. Teams continue to spend elsewhere in ways that far exceed the impact of the NACL on their bottom line. Europe has a thriving ERL system and the LCK and LPL maintain robust Challenger rosters and leagues. By comparison, North America now has a developmental product with no viewership, no institutional support, no paying jobs, and no future.

Riot failed today to provide any plan to ensure the NACL remains a viable talent pipeline for NA. The LCSPA does have a plan, and we shared it with Riot months ago. The PA plan is designed to facilitate a shift towards a future where LCS teams will not be required to field NACL rosters. Throughout regular meetings between Riot and the PA, both parties acknowledged the NACL would not be viable today without Riot requiring LCS partner organizations to have an NACL roster.

The LCSPA proposal for 2024:

• Allow teams to pay NACL players based on local wage laws instead of California labor minimums

• Allow teams to partner with affiliate organizations to operate their NACL rosters and share costs

• Introduce a robust in-game item program for LCS teams that mirrors their generous revenue sharing program in Valorant

• Introduce meaningful incentives like promotion/relegation and revenue sharing for outside organizations to invest in NACL rosters

The LCSPA believes these proposals will reduce the costs associated with an NACL roster by as much as 50% and provide much needed incentives to make the LCS and NACL viable in the short- and long-term. The LCSPA proposals provide a tangible bridge between today and a future where a mandate may not be necessary. Players, fans, and anyone who cares about League esports and the LCS, please join us in making your voice heard, in publicly calling for Riot to reverse this short- sighted mistake, in working collaboratively with the LCSPA to protect the future of the LCS. There is still time to get this right.

Best,

<Signatures>

pretty damn grim outlook
