Band Drama / Need Advice! Band Drama / Need Advice!
Rock Band

I’m in a 3 person band, our instruments consist of vocals, guitar, bass, drum machine, and occasional synth. We only play original tracks that mostly the guitar player has written. I’ve got a home studio that we work to produce our tracks and me and the guitarist haven’t been able to see eye to eye.

I recently got the Axe FX III so we could have high quality / full sounding guitar in our recordings. I told the guitarist about this but he is adamant about not using it and only using the gear he plans to play shows with. He is also very against backing tracks but I tell him it could help a lot as we don’t really utilize the drum machine to its fullest potential anyways and all it’s doing is taking away from the instruments we’re playing. (And sometimes even messes up the performance because someone is forced to try and do too many things at once)

I told him I’m fine with mic’ing him amp for our next studio session (even tho we’ve done it before yielding very mid tier results) but am thinking about just re-recording the guitar parts afterwards to show the difference.

Any advice on the situation?

Issues with band… Issues with band…
Rock Band

A few days ago I made a band with my friend who plays drum. Two guys joined and they both play bass and guitar. I am holding the role of lead singer and lead guitar. However, the two dudes keep switching between bass and rythym guitar for specific songs. Im fine with that but the problem is that each people need to match my style (if that makes sense) and a lot of them dont know the rythym version. Also, one guy who plays rythym guitar improvises alot. I dont have an issue with improvisation but it sounds bad. I told him to keep it simple but he wants to do it his own way. We keep getting into arguments. For example, we were playing Basket Case and the rythym guitarist kept telling me I got the intro wrong. However I am correct. Small issues like these make me jusy pissed. never thought working in a band is this difficult. Maybe I am the impatient one. But as of now I need some advice and tips. TIA

How to deal with band member overstepping? How to deal with band member overstepping?

I’ve been in the band thats been mainly comprised of me (guitarist) and my best friend on bass. Our drummer has been perfect and we recently just got a new singer. He’s been going out of his way to write the instrumentals but something about that has been pissing me off. I’m the kind of person who wants to write my own parts and not just play something that someone else wrote. The worst part is that he is going after a completely different sound with the parts he writes. His stuff mainly consists of heavy usage of double kick, a7x type guitar parts, along with some shredding. Don’t get me wrong, i enjoy listening to it, but that aint mine or my bassists playing style. We both really into that classic rock sound with him loving the beatles, the who, and pink floyd, and me loving aerosmith, gnr, and stp. I’ll stop my rant now and just ask, how do i get him to stop overstepping?

Should I just leave Should I just leave

Been part of a band for 4 years and we reached great heights. We started off as a typical school band passing vocals around between members and writing cool songs - we eventually recorded an album where I had 50% of the lead vocals and my bandmate had the other 50%. As the years went on, I started to have personal mental issues which made my live performing deteriorate massively- I hated having to move around for the sake of it while performing and my vocals got pitchy on stage. Following this my bandmate understandably took over lead vocals duties, and though everyone has been extremely supportive, I've felt hard done by and expressed that- admittedly in a pretty whiny way.The result has been mixed. Since then I have been relegated to lead guitar duties with some backing vocals- and every rehearsal sessions feels like a mountain I have to overcome.I also had some personal issues that left me resenting them- through little fault of theirs. In my head it was a toxic environment and I was the odd one out- different.

We took a hiatus where I did different projects and regained my confidence- and I found rehearsing with other people to be way more rewarding. I found that despite movement on stage being less, the quality of the performance was still the same, and this new band managed to get to a place similar of that to the other one.

Now the hiatus is over and we have agreed to do one final gig- I don't want to do it. My bandmate suggested he sing 2 songs from the album we released that I originally sang- as expected, and I said it was ok. I would rather sing lead on these and I know they will not concede this as we have discussed our "new roles" at length. Every time I try to talk to them I feel like throwing up, or have a headache. However I have had a history with the band and we all have historically been a very tight knit group. They have supported me and been there when my situation was dire, and I feel I owe them at least this gig. It's very soon, and after that it's done, and I can maintain good relationships with the members. If I drop out now, it will leave a tainted final gig. I feel I owe them this, and I do love playing lead guitar, and I know there can't be 2 frontmen in a band. If I tell them I don't want to do it, I don't want to lie and say it's because of some random bogus reason, I don't want to hurt them, and it's literally over in 3 weeks.

CO-based jam band seeking lead guitarist!

Up-and-coming Colorado jam band seeking lead guitarist. We gig regularly, have a bunch of original music, and are starting to pick up some solid traction. We play a mix of rock, folk, funk, bluegrass, and psychedelic music. We have lots of original songs and we improv a lot in a live setting.

Looking for somebody who wants to gig regularly, tour, and record. We play venues such as The Fox, Cervantes, Belly Up, Animas Theater, as well as a bunch of bars and breweries throughout the region. We just released our debut album and the single got added to Spotify’s ‘Modern Jam Band’ playlist.

Looking for somebody to join us on our quest to make powerful music and memories. Hit me up if you want to talk more about it!

Advice on a band that didn't work out Advice on a band that didn't work out

So me and a group of other people formed a band. We already has songs that we were going to record. I bought all the gear to record which totaled at around 450 dollars. I went broke for that and just now the members just left me and now I have all this gear that doesn't have much use. If I sell it I can get my money back, but still lose a bit, or whats more likely to happen is that this year im joining clubs and things where im very likely to meet new people and maybe form another band and put my gear to use again. Do you have advice on this situation, because I went flat broke getting this gear.
