How to Find Signings For Anti-Gerrymandering Amendment

Tl;dr: How to find signings for the anti-gerrymandering amendment and other pieces of information. See "Where to find signings" section to find a signing near you.

Hello Dayton!

I’m a volunteer with Fair Districts, an organization that’s part of the Citizens Not Politicians coalition that’s currently gathering signatures for a bi-partisan anti-gerrymandering amendment that will create a commission of citizens to draw our district lines rather than politicians. This amendment will finally help end the terrible gerrymandering that has been happening in Ohio for the past 20 years.

Where to Find Signings?

If you are interested in signing this petition and would like to know where to find a signing near you, check Mobilize and search for our amendment there or click on this link: https://www.mobilize.us/?q=citizens%20not%20politicians%20

Please note: We are always adding more events so if you do not see any events near you, please keep checking! We will have a lot more events as the weather warms up!

What is gerrymandering?

Gerrymandering is the process in which politicians can manipulate how voters are represented by drawing district lines in a particular manner which results in unfair representation for the voters. This results in politicians picking voters rather than voters picking politicians. It’s very difficult to explain gerrymandering fully without visual examples so if you’re interested in learning more check out this 3-minute video: https://youtu.be/bGLRJ12uqmk?si=ROAI3QFMIRgH4t9i

How does our amendment help?

This amendment would take away the power to draw distracts from the legislature and replace it with a citizen-led commission instead.

The commission would consist of 15 citizens: 5 democrats, 5 republicans, and 5 independents. All citizens would be vetted to ensure they are not former/current politicians, lobbyists, or party officials. Any maps drawn by the commission would require votes from every side.

How to support it and learn more:

The first thing you can do to support this amendment is to sign the petition to get the amendment onto the ballot. See the "Where to find signings section" to find signings near you.

The second thing you can do is talk to your friends and family about it. If you can get them to sign the petitions and vote yes on it, then together we can end gerrymandering.

The third thing you can do is sign up as a volunteer and help gather signatures yourself. Check out https://www.citizensnotpoliticians.org/ to find where to volunteer.

Feel free to ask me any questions or let me know if you need any help with finding events!

Calling all Dayton alternatives: Help us create meetups you'll love 🙌
MOD

Fourteen years ago, we organized a few Dayton meetups, and the turnout was surprising. We had 14 people show up at South Park Tavern, crowded around three tables we pushed together, with some of us huddled around the firepit on the patio on a chilly late October day. The second time around, about 25 people joined us.

Lifelong friendships were forged at those gatherings. In fact, I met my best friend at the very first one, where we instantly bonded over our shared love for Nine Inch Nails and the then-just-released Social Network soundtrack.

Sadly, there haven't been many (if any) meetups since then. But that's about to change, in a big way.

We now have a whole new (and growing) moderation team, and over the past few months, we've been brainstorming ways to not only strengthen our online community but also create opportunities for in-person connections and bring together like-minded individuals.

We've all seen the countless posts asking where and how to make friends. Along with "Where should I live?" it's by far among the most frequently asked questions here.

While we love Barrel House, D20, and the other common recommendations, we also recognize that it can be intimidating to visit a place alone with the purpose of making friends.

That's why we're creating these meetups – to remove the awkwardness and make it easier for everyone, especially our introverted and anxious friends, to connect with like-minded people.

Our goal is to provide a welcoming, low-pressure environment where you can bond over shared interests without the discomfort of navigating a new space on your own.

We want you to feel supported and included from the moment you walk in, so you can focus on making meaningful connections and, hopefully, lifelong friends that you too can geek out about NIN with.

So, what's the plan?

We're launching a series of meetups and gatherings for the alternative crowd: the weirdos, artists, tech geeks, otakus, gamers, goths, LGBTQ+, tabletop gamers, punks, cosplayers, metalheads, poly folks – and anyone into all things weird and strange. You know, Redditors.

But to make this happen, we need your help!

Please take a quick survey (it'll only take a few minutes, we promise!) to let us know what you're into and what kind of events you'd like to see. This will help us plan and get a sense of the type and size of venues we'll need.

Take the survey here: https://forms.gle/nm7yqYhqAhSxr86H7

We're also looking for a few volunteers who share our passion for bringing people together and would love to help make this a reality.

While we'll need more help down the road, right now, we're primarily seeking volunteers to act as greeters at venues and help direct people to groups with similar interests.

Also: if you own or manage a business or event venue that would be open to hosting future meetups or run a local group/organization that would be interested in collaborating on future events, please DM me.

Tl;dr: Plz take this survey so we can plan awesome Reddit meetups here in Dayton, k thx.
