YouTube severely throttling performance on Firefox with Ad Blocking add-on YouTube severely throttling performance on Firefox with Ad Blocking add-on
Discussion

YouTube is severely throttling performance on Firefox because I used uBlock Origin.

I switched to Firefox last year because Chrome began to overlay static Ads on YouTube videos even if you use uBlock or any other ad blocker.

This week I noticed that YouTube is really slow on Firefox (interestingly right after net neutralilty rules were restored). I got curioused and went back to Chrome+uBlock and it was functioning fine (though static ad overlay is still there).

To confirmed my theory I changed my user agent on Firefox to the one I copied from Chrome and viola there's no performance issue at all.

Curious if anyone is facing this issue too.

This story really got my attention, three guys working in their spare time tweaking a public open source browser using old code optimizations and making it way faster. I tried it and it sure is snappy.

I keep using Firefox even though it's not the best because I think they really needs to be choices out there, but it's hard to understand why they can't put a little more emphasis on performance. It's mind-blowing to me that virtually every GPU seems to be on their block list, and simply setting a flag to disable block list works. If it's that easy why don't they do it by default!?
