I love Anji Mito

I don't even play guilty gear strive to win anymore. It's all for the parry super. Concepts like winning or losing don't make sense to me anymore. All I need is the parry super. The festival part of Rock Parade starts playing in my head every time I land 632146S. My head is constantly filled with homicidal thoughts and gaslighting. I've truly internalised Anji Mito. My rabid deranged thoughts tell me to challenge any Axl main I see in the park. I've actually developed the ability to Suigetsu no Hakobi in real life because of Anji Mito. I love Anji Mito. Every day I wish he was real so I could kiss him. Talk to him. I fantasise about him ground throwing me every night before I go to sleep and running shitsu oki on me when I wake up. I've started hating Baiken because she should honestly be honoured that she got to feel Anji's mighty pecs. I'm so jealous of her. I wish Anji was real...

Anji Mito feels aimless

Like what is this character even supposed to do?

His pokes offer no reward in neutral except in specific situations, he is never plus which makes tick throws difficult, the butterfly is just a fancy blockstring starter, autoguard can put you minus and even if the opponent swings into it they can mix you by doing PRC while you are stuck in recovery, and Fujin is a meme at best. He gets blown up by DP's, and has bad defence even with his counter because the counter wiffs on crossups or large disjointed moves (looking at you megafist).

And even when you hit the counter super it deals meh damage for how difficult it is to land (186 when triggered, compared to 160 for Ramelethals reversal and 180 for May's, keep in mind that Anji can be grabbed out of his counter stance).

Like where is this character strong, where is Anji supposed to feel scary?

edit: Just to be clear I don't think Anji is unviable (he is weak but not unviable), just that his kit does not feel cohesive to me. It feels to me that there is never a clear goal that you are working towards.

The current state of Anji Mito

Hello everyone, I would like to discuss where Anji is at during this current point in the games lifetime.

During beta 2, I started with my old main Faust. After a while struggling at floor 5, I decided to give Anji a go. Boy, did he feel great. Climbed all the way up to floor 9 before the beta ended and I felt like I could get to Heaven.

Now that the game has fully released, I'm back to floor 9. However, I've been seeing a lot of conflicting opinions on where Anji stands with the launch patch. I haven't seen any big content creators or crazy combo videos with him (besides like BnBs and one gameplay video of J. Wong).

I personally feel that he's at least decent, but others say he's borderline unplayable. Anji is definitely harder online during the full release because people are getting more experience with him. Full release Anji also lost out on some damage from his corner loops due to the gravity changes, which unfortunately seems like an indirect nerf. I also feel like I shouldn't be scared to do the majority of moves in my kit. Everything being minus on block besides Fujin-P (which is uber punishable if they have a DP or good reaction time) definitely weighs him down. He's not the mixup monster that he should be when a Just Block to his Fujin-HS (which is super easy to do) leads to a full punish.

I understand he's built to be a high risk high reward character, but sometimes the risk feels just a bit too high. His conversions feel limited without meter, such as landing a Fujin-S leading to pretty much nothing without a chunk of your bar. Mixups feel limited as well, with my most reliable being a high/low after a Fujin-P -> Forward RC, which also costs meter.

I know I'm not the most experienced player, and it's still very early in the games lifecycle, but I wanted to hear some other opinions on his current situation. He's a very honest character, and he's a blast to play, but I don't want to be stuck maining a character that has a very transparent gameplan (See; Goku Black).

Sorry for the wall of text, I've been thinking about this all week and had to formulate my thoughts while on shift. Any input and all comments appreciated. Stay strong Anji gang 🙏
