Akron Zoo

As a heads-up to anyone planning a trip - I went yesterday and between the avian flu precautions and some other moves there were a lot of animals off exhibit. Not a big deal for me; I have a membership and like to pop in for an hour or so just to walk the grounds. But I would hate for someone to have a trip planned out and come away with a bad impression of our zoo.

Akron Zoo’s mountain chicken frog dies at 18, one of oldest in the world

I heard this on the radio. I said "What?", then "A what?!?" Then the Akron zoo part and then the story was over and all i knew was that 'regular mountian chicken frogs' normally live to 12.

so, of course i had to look that up, and just figured i'd share. it's sort of a sad story, but also sort of a good one, at least for that one particular giant and critically endangered amphibian.

and only to my mild surprise, it's scarce now because... you got it - tastes like chicken!

my journey for you to likewise enjoy if you so choose:

Extremely rare (1 in 2 million) blue lobster found in a shipment to a "Red Lobster" restaurant in Cuyahoga Falls, rescued by a keen-eyed employee and sent to the Akron Zoo in Ohio instead of being cooked!

The term "shiny" originates from Pokémon. It is a term used to describe a pokémon that is a completely different color from all others in their species. We have taken that idea and expanded it to include objects, plants, food, and people! All color morphs are accepted providing they are atypical from the norm of that species, breed, or type.
