In this subreddit: we roll our eyes and snicker at minimum system requirements. This is a community for anyone struggling to find something to play for that older system, or sharing or seeking tips for how to run that shiny new game on yesterday's hardware. Found a cool game that runs fantastic on a lower end system? Great! Do you have a guide for running a newer game below the minimum requirements? Share it! We help people with low spec PC builds, but TRY TO INCLUDE some relevant gaming too!
currently using my 2010 Mac Pro (6 Core Xeon W3680 and 32Gb RAM) and a 4GB GTX 680 (that I flashed to a Mac rom) to play some PC games and some emulation games.
Its still able to handle the games I play now but its simply eating up too much electricity and generate a ton of heat. So I want to ween off using it as a gaming computer. I figured I would look into seeing if the other PC I have sitting in a closet can be a suitable stand in.
That would be an Acer atc-605-ub11 (cir. 2015) its relevant specs are that it has an Intel Core i5-4440 and Liteon PS-6301-08A 300W power supply. It has a PCIe x16 graphics card slot but not PCI express power connector ports on the logic board (MS-7869 Ver. 1.0) Its cramped on space for a video card right now but I can drill out the rivets that hold the metal panel for the hard drive and optical drive and remove it to open up some room. Although there is still cable connectors that may get in the way.
The most demanding game I have the Mac Pro was able to acceptably handle was the Resident Evil 2 remake. That is about the bar I want to meet with the Acer.
What would be reasonable video card upgrades plus cable adapters that this can handle without changing around too much internally. Maybe upgrade the processor if it would make a difference. this is just casual gaming for me and technically the Mac Pro is till usable if I want to fire it up so the less money spent the better

Discussions related specifically to ChromeOS Flex, an official method for installing a form of ChromeOS on (nearly) any device!
Had this laptop lying around and Windows 10 was downright unusable due to performance issues. Task Manager was showing CPU utilization of 100% and this was AFTER a clean install.
Was about to chuck out the laptop when I came across an article about how ChromeOS Flex was breathing new life into old machines and decided to give it a shot.
Installation was incredibly easy and relatively quick, no bloatware, setup was quick and I have NEVER seen this laptop run so quickly.
Currently have MS Teams (web), Office (web), Figma, Spotify, Reddit, YT Music all set up as web apps on the machine and it runs so smoothly that I'm bringing it to work tomorrow to see what it can't do.
Really goes to show how utterly inefficient Windows is.... thanks, Google!

A subreddit for asking question about Linux and all things pertaining to it.
I've been trying to fix up one of my old computer's (this acer tablet) for school, and install Linux on it. I've been having issues with doing it though. The BIOS on this thing seems really picky about what actually can run on it. Tried multiple 32 bit distro's, all say they've installed successfully, but the BIOS never recognizes them. After installation, it just goes to "no bootable device". It does this despite having an operating system to boot from installed.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
