According to @Jon Prosser's , the new generation of Apple TV may have 64GB/128GB storage in addition to the A12X bionic chip.

Hello! I currently work in a retail store that sells both Apple and Microsoft computers and tablets. I’m not very well versed in all things Apple despite having various Apple devices myself.

I’ve been looking at the current iPad Pro models and trying to get a grasp on how they compare to other tablets, and even laptops. My understanding is that they’re more powerful than the iPad/iPad Air. Are the iPad Pros comparable to the most recent MacBook models, with the Intel processors? What Intel processor is most comparable to the A12x?

I hope this isn’t a dumb question, and please let me know if this isn’t the right community for this type of question!! I’d simply like to know more so that I’m able to sell the products better.

released a with floor plan today (). That means it's time for me to estimated how a more powerfull A12X could look like!

First some stats measures from the floor plan. We know that the A12 die size is 9.89mm x 8.42mm = 83.27 mm² and contains 6.9 billion transistors.

All the above are measured values. If you don't like speculation and calculated guess, don't read further.

The Big CPU cluster seems a little small compared to the Litte CPU cluster, a big core should be at least twice the size of a little core. But let's assume that they are right.

So let's build a A12X. I made the following modifications for my theoretical A12X.

• Doubled Big CPU cores (2 to 4 Vortex cores)

• Doubled the L2 cache (8 to 16 MB)

• Doubled the GPU (4 to 8 clusters)

• Made the NPU 50% larger (8 to 12 clusters)

• Doubled the DDR Logic interface (64-bit to 128-bit)

That would give the following values:

So far I added about 2,1 billion transistors and about 25,4mm². We also have to take interconnect into account, even Apple can't magically teleport data to different parts of the chip, so let's add 20% extra for interconnect logic (this is a guess). Also I want a larger video decoder and display pipeline for the high-res 120Hz iPad screens, so let's add 4mm² for that (plus 20% interconnect).

Now our A12X measures 83,27mm² + (25,4 mm² + 4 mm²) * 1,2 = 118,5mm², containing 9,8 billion transistors. It's 42% bigger than our A12. Sounds about right, and I think we can expect something like this from Apple in the near future.

Apple claims the A12X is 35% faster (single-core) and 90% faster (multi-core) than the A10X. How does that compare?

Apple claims 35% faster single thread and 90% faster multi thread with 2x faster graphics. So lets take those percentage differences from the A10X geekbench scores and get the performance shall we :)

• Single Core = 5250

• Multi Core = 17650

• Graphics = 58000

The new iPad Pro is fast

This is a really large upgrade over the A10X when you take into account multicore performance. This also paves the way for machine learning algorithms to be used by companies like adobe when editing your images/artwork and apple release their dev tools for taking advantage of that neural engine. The increase in size of the neural engine between the A11 and A12 really points at the fact that apple wants this to be used by individuals other than apple (I mean they basically just use it for face unlock and the A11 was good enough for that).

Finally going quad core and bringing running machine learning natively to the ipad is going to be a big deal come iOS13/14 imo and I think people are missing that.
