I'm surprised they didn't go with the tagline "SHE IS NOT IN DISTRESS."

[–]warpedspoon 1426 points1427 points  (23 children)

SHE IS DISTRESS

[–]Limp_Researcher_5523 517 points518 points  (14 children)

“I am not in distress Skyler, I AM the distress!”

[–]allnimblybimbIy 80 points81 points  (0 children)

wallows in a hole in the floor mixed with insane screaming/laughing

[–]tforthegreat 188 points189 points  (2 children)

"I'm not in distress in here with you....you're in distress in here with me!"

[–]kryonik 124 points125 points  (8 children)

"BUT SHE IS IN A DRESS"

[–]damnitimtoast 78 points79 points  (15 children)

Reminds me of that Joey King movie that was on Hulu a few years ago. The Princess, I think?

[–]CarlySimonSays 29 points30 points  (12 children)

Apparently it was pretty good, but I didn’t get around to seeing it before Disney deleted it for tax reasons. :(

[–]SubterrelProspector 63 points64 points  (1 child)

What a time to be alive. Isn't not owning anything so much "better"? 🙄

[–]Griegz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Arr, yer sarcasm rings true.

[–]SpaceQueenJupiter 21 points22 points  (4 children)

It was goofy, but a fun popcorn movie. I didn't realize it was gone

[–]ikeif 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Disney bringing back the “vault” concept, so they can roll it out again in several years “back in digital form, for the last time! Special purchase only!”

Disney just really wants people to sail the seven seas.

[–]Zomtive 232 points233 points  (27 children)

sword looks like it is made of plastic

[–]ehhdjdmebshsmajsjssn 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Specially with how thin the blade is and how shiny the crossgaurd is.

I definitely had the same sword when i was a kid.

[–]dalcarr 165 points166 points  (20 children)

As someone who's worked with prop weapons around actors, you want to give them as few chances as possible to hurt themselves. Something about putting a sword in people's hands makes them revert to 8 years old and all sense of caution goes out the window lol

Also, she probably needed to hit and hold this pose for a long time. If she were using a metal sword her arms would be spaghetti after 20 minutes

[–]ralanr 78 points79 points  (6 children)

I completely understand that. Give me a stick and I will swing it like a sword.

[–]Cipherpunkblue 36 points37 points  (3 children)

walks through the forest

Oh shit, there are STICKS!

[–]PlanetLandon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s all well and good, but it’s a poster. They can add a better looking sword

[–]EdliA 51 points52 points  (1 child)

The sword in the poster shouldn't look like a plastic prop.

[–]EqualContact 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, but seems like something you would fix while creating the poster.

[–]ChungusCoffee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It looking fake has little to do with it being a prop, they can and have made real looking props for decades. (Over a century, even) There is no difference giving someone a fake sword that looks like shit or giving someone a fake sword that has been built and painted for this specific scene

[–]Kagahami 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Or just "Damsel of Distress."

[–]BeefStevenson 5542 points5543 points  (203 children)

This is gonna be really, really bad.

[–]zerocoolforschool 1969 points1970 points  (28 children)

It almost looks like an SNL skit mocking the current girl boss trend in Hollywood.

[–]WitchTrialz 530 points531 points  (8 children)

Girls get it done!

[–]Dramatic_______Pause 201 points202 points  (0 children)

"Eat my shit, you nazi bitch!"

[–]TheColorblindDruid 46 points47 points  (0 children)

That one I actually liked though lol but frenchie’s charisma might have been carrying the lind

[–]AWildEnglishman 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Girls get it on!

Done. Girls get it done.

They sure do, Ashley.

[–]Ameriggio 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it looks like a fake movie poster.

[–]PunkandCannonballer 318 points319 points  (8 children)

Okay, but imagine if this is a parody film about girl boss characters in the same vein of Tropic Thunder.

[–]TheObservationalist 244 points245 points  (4 children)

Jfc I would weep tears of joy to watch a movie about a satirical warrior girlboss who slowly comes to the realization that she needs the help of her friends and teammates after all.

[–]physical_graffitti 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Highly doubt it, but would totally watch.

[–]TroyFerris13 905 points906 points  (132 children)

She's such a terrible actress.

[–]Coool_cool_cool_cool 623 points624 points  (58 children)

She really is getting carried by that Stranger Things fame. I suspect the amount of work she gets will fall off into her 20's but that's okay I'm sure she's made bank with Stranger Things.

[–]HeckFamous1760 216 points217 points  (21 children)

At this point it’s just fame.

[–]Coool_cool_cool_cool 258 points259 points  (20 children)

I guess so but for a lot of us we only know her as the girl from Stranger Things and from Drake's DM's.

[–]Phyliinx 63 points64 points  (12 children)

I know her from the monsterverse

[–]montessoriprogram 100 points101 points  (8 children)

Man her character in that series is so poorly written it's insane. Does not do any favors for her because she comes off as a terrible actress in it and it's hard to tell if it's her or the writing.

[–]Phyliinx 43 points44 points  (5 children)

Yeah, I agree.

But ape goes boom, that's why I am watching them.

Lizard is good too.

[–]comicsanddrwho 211 points212 points  (17 children)

I actually enjoyed watching her in Enola Holmes, even the movies were kinda fun.

[–]kashmoney360 132 points133 points  (13 children)

I think a lot of actors in these major franchises benefit from doing "fun" movies and highlighting them. If not outright "fun" movies then straight up indie movies.

Robert Pattinson wrote the book on breaking away from a franchise. Kept his head down, only stuck to the most indie of indies, weird role after weird role, and finally resurfaced in big budget Hollywood movies once Twilight was sufficiently scrubbed from his resume.

It allows the audience to stop seeing them as Daenerys Targaryen, Arya Stark, Eleven, Jon Snow, Don Draper, Walter White, Jim Halpert. Because if the audience can only ever see them as being that role they played for a decade+, that's what they'll get perpetually typecast in.

[–]Fn_Spaghetti_Monster 65 points66 points  (5 children)

I will admit I did not think he was going to be any good at Batman but he wound up being excellent at it. His Bruce was kind of too moody, but that was how it was written and nothing to do with his acting.

[–]kashmoney360 18 points19 points  (4 children)

Yeah I hope they bring a more "human" aspect to his character. It did get tiring even within the movie for him to have so little regular human behavior. Everything was purely him being Batman putting on a person costume, maybe that was the point. But some level of balance would've been a nice break.

[–]SlowThePath[🍰] 10 points11 points  (3 children)

I always read Batman as having the same thing as superman. Superman is Superman and his alternate identity is Clark Kent. Bruce Wayne got turned into Batman when his parents died and Bruce Wayne became his alternate identity. This dynamic is pretty clear in the Nolan trilogy as well. So it makes sense to me to have the movie written like that.

[–]NewPhoneNewAccount2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Walter white? Dont you mean Hal Wilkerson?

[–]kashmoney360 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Feel like that's more the norm than not. Every massive cultural redefining award sweeping TV show has half their cast outright not appearing in anything outside of the show or after it ends.

The other half like a good 2/3rds stay in supporting roles for the rest of their career. Only a few of that portion actually stay relevant with notable roles after "The Show" ends.

The rest just become semi-familiar faces you pretty much only recognize for their work on Breaking Bad/Succession/The Wire/The Office/ Parks n Rec/Game of Thrones/Westworld/Stranger Things/Mad Men/Walking Dead/Abbott Elementary/Sopranos/Crown/House of Cards/Lost/ And the List goes on and on and on... Like by no means irrelevant but not like a name that would make you want to watch something in of itself.

There's the actors who become huge during the show's run, they show up in every other major tentpole movie, 3 Netflix-type movies a year, faces plastered on every luxury brand. But they slowly fizzle out once the next Big Show comes knocking with its own fresh faced unknowns to promote.

Only a tiny fraction of the cast actually breaks into true A-List territory. With projects flowing after their show ends, scooping up awards, collaborating with the prestigious directors, being in A24 and NEON produced movies, just generally becoming an entertainment media mainstay.

tl;dr all that to say you're right, Millie Bobby Brown does seem like she's boutta hit a career limbo with how she's shoehorned into certain movies and nothing that would set her up for roles after Stranger Things ends. Like being included in major tentpole franchises during her stint on Stranger Things is no more a guarantee than Emilia Clarke being in the Terminator reboot, Han Solo movie, or the recent MCU Secret Invasions show. And that's despite my personal opinion that Emilia Clarke is a great actress but seems perpetually thrown into roles with the expectation that she'll Khaleesi it up. Same thing is going to happen to Millie Bobby Brown before the industry picks up a new actress.

[–]TimeTravelingChris 199 points200 points  (32 children)

Not enough people realize this. I hope I am totally wrong and she has improved but so far... little rough.

[–]BarackaFlockaFlame 129 points130 points  (29 children)

she was great in her role in stranger things... but I haven't been able to see her as any of the other parts i've seen her promoted in. it just seems like hollywood trying to cash in on the stranger things buzz around her.

still plenty of time for her to grow and improve though.

[–]ThervingiAmal 113 points114 points  (7 children)

I think her lifeless awkward delivery worked for stranger things given the character but now we’re realizing that her acting literally is just pretty stilted.

[–]anormalgeek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. The same thing worked for Dave Bautista and Drax.

Granted, he's actually improved a lot since then, but it took him years to do so. He never would've had the chance if it weren't for his big break being a character that relied on awkward emotions in their delivery.

Brown hasn't really shown the same improvements over the same period though.

[–]mininestime 132 points133 points  (4 children)

Because it was mainly, make a face and dont talk. When she actually starts talking it goes down. The sherlock holmes movies show that.

[–]MCR2004 29 points30 points  (2 children)

As did the Godzilla movies. It’s bad enough they were always cutting away to the human drama I don’t think anyone cared about, but she was particularly non compelling and flat

[–]ifhysm 59 points60 points  (8 children)

How many lines of dialogue did her character have in Stranger Things? It’s been a while since I’ve watched it

[–]BarackaFlockaFlame 66 points67 points  (3 children)

I don't think she had many especially when compared to the other kids. as the seasons went on she started talking more but was playing a socially awkward teenaged girl so it kinda fit?

[–]caninehere 37 points38 points  (0 children)

As soon as she started talking more it became very obvious she was hired to glare.

[–]heyitsharper31 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Thousands. She's only really quiet in season 1. In season 2, she speaks in broken sentences a lot and by season 3 it's full sentences with occasional weird grammar.

[–]IlexAquifolia 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I thought she was very charming in Enola Holmes.

[–]xeroxenon 1674 points1675 points  (45 children)

When you can tell by the sword it’s gonna suck

[–]WannabeWonk 349 points350 points  (3 children)

Straight up looks like a symmetrical plastic mold clasped around the blade.

[–]xeroxenon 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Brother that’s what it is I’m afraid

[–]Hertje73 427 points428 points  (10 children)

Yeah how come she's so dirty but the sword is absolutely spotless clean.

[–]xeroxenon 275 points276 points  (6 children)

Because it’s a special sword. No ones ever done that before

[–]mfyxtplyx 55 points56 points  (3 children)

It will even make the steel-on-steel sching sound when removed from a leather scabbard or waved around.

[–]Farsoth 57 points58 points  (1 child)

That sword is some /r/mallninja shit.

[–]cyberpunk1Q84 24 points25 points  (1 child)

I thought it was the Hunger Games poster at first.

[–]One_Swan2723 790 points791 points  (5 children)

Fake poster in a comedy movie looking poster

[–]quondam47 180 points181 points  (2 children)

Also starring Kirk Lazarus in dragonface.

[–]sgthombre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I smell a sixth Oscar already, what will Kirk do to top this??

[–]onedoodlethatcantbe 441 points442 points  (58 children)

Didn’t Joey King just do this on Hulu?

[–]Good_old_Marshmallow 590 points591 points  (32 children)

Kristen Stewart said after Twilight she kept getting offered these roles that were basically "the most generic action movie you can imagine but there's a GIRL as the lead" and that she wouldn't take them.

It seems they've found their leads.

[–]Nilosyrtis 186 points187 points  (24 children)

Then she waited for the right one with "Underwater".

Good for her!

[–]trickldowncompressr 102 points103 points  (10 children)

I liked that movie

[–]Nilosyrtis 79 points80 points  (8 children)

Same. It was like Alien but with Cthulu.

[–]duskywindows 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It was like Alien but with Cthulu.

It WAS Alien but with Cthulu. I loved it.

[–]GloryToYog 23 points24 points  (2 children)

Underwater Alen rip offs were a staple of the 80s and 90s, I honestly still want more

[–]Good_old_Marshmallow 53 points54 points  (6 children)

Well, they kept backing up to her house with a dump truck full of money she was going to say yes eventually

[–]HowManyMeeses 80 points81 points  (5 children)

Underwater isn't that kind of movie. I think they're saying she waited for the right action flick. Underwater is legitimately good.

[–]StorageSevere5720 39 points40 points  (4 children)

The Snow White movies she did were definitely that kind of movie though. Cheap looking, poorly acted, bland.

[–]vaccine_man 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Yeah, but in theory they could have been cool.

[–]brett1081 103 points104 points  (3 children)

Yep and it was a movie that was made. That’s it.

[–]roguefilmmaker 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was going to say I swore this was supposed to be a Joey King movie

[–]zekybomb 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Yup. "The princess" decent movie, lots of good choreographed fights. Gets a bit slow in the 3rd act. It's like John wick but medieval

[–]Morten-Pedesen 534 points535 points  (44 children)

When it comes to dragon slaying is not about gender or race but how good you look doing it. Have you ever seen an ugly person kill a dragon?

[–]djackieunchaned 372 points373 points  (14 children)

The night king

[–]TranscedentalMedit8n 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Ice Daddy

[–]maybeAturtle 109 points110 points  (8 children)

Night king isn’t “hot” per se but he’s a babe

[–]djackieunchaned 75 points76 points  (7 children)

Yea as soon as I typed that I was like who am I kidding I’d totally let him

[–]Silver-ishWolfe 22 points23 points  (5 children)

Whoa, really? Ice dick?... wow.

I might have tried ice vagina, but then I watched the Boys.

I will never try ice vagina...

[–]yungsoprano 84 points85 points  (6 children)

My character in Skyrim

[–]leroyVance 28 points29 points  (3 children)

Have you seen the movie Dragonslayer (1981)? A young peter MacNicol is the lead. Ugly is too strong a word, but his chin is week and his hair imperfect. Plus, he is kinda limp armed.

Enjoyable film.

[–]macdaddee 25 points26 points  (2 children)

The Night King. Euron Greyjoy. But that might be a matter of taste.

[–]ohsinboi 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Euron was a sexy pirate bastard, I'll not take this slander

[–]ImNotTheBlitz 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The Night King was a sexy frozen bastard, I'll not take this slander

[–]ToyDingo 600 points601 points  (16 children)

By the time they drop Stranger Things' last season the cast will be nearing retiring age.

[–]Smooshy_Booshy 2679 points2680 points  (224 children)

I might be in the minority, but I don’t think she’s a good actor. She had some moments in stranger things but she could get away with being stiff.

[–]TripleThreatTua 1336 points1337 points  (40 children)

She’s especially bad compared to Sadie Sink, who’s actually a great actor

[–]crosstrackerror 537 points538 points  (31 children)

I think Sadie Sink is more talented and has consistently improved.

But in the beginning she was terrible. I’ve never seen anyone overact to that extent. It was so distracting when she joined the cast.

[–]planb7615[🍰] 600 points601 points  (4 children)

Keep in mind she was a broadway star. Theater acting is very different. She’s talented so she eventually adjusted. That is took so long is more on the director than her.

[–]therealrexmanning 127 points128 points  (20 children)

I’ve never seen anyone overact to that extent. It was so distracting when she joined the cast.

Based on her performance in The Whale she still seems to overact. She was dailed up to 11 for basically the entire film!

[–]-FeistyRabbitSauce- 236 points237 points  (7 children)

I think that worked for the character in The Whale. She was a troubled, arrogant teenager, and her attitude left you uncertain about her motivations.

[–]CryptoCentric 64 points65 points  (6 children)

Yeah that was my take on it. Anyone who's spent any time around angsty teenagers (so: anyone who grew up and went to public school) knows that they're all about performance. I can remember wildly flailing my arms and making a big scene just because someone mispronounced the name of an album I liked. She was acting like a teenager who's "acting out" and did a fine job at it.

[–]ProbablyASithLord 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Yeah that was literally the point. She was a hurt kid acting like a piece of shit, it’s not overacting if that’s what the part calls for.

[–]Charosas 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I found that everybody was dialed up to 11 in that movie… even Brendan Fraser, so I guess that was more of the director’s choice, and less on the actors.

[–]DCBronzeAge 31 points32 points  (1 child)

Everyone except Hong Chau was dialed up to 11 in that movie.

[–]KongFuzii 26 points27 points  (4 children)

The Whale is an adaptation of a play

[–]brunoquadrado 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Sadie Sink is an actress. Millie Bobby Brown wants to be a movie star.

[–]3eeve 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Sadie Sink stole s4. She is fantastic.

[–]DarthLightside 170 points171 points  (2 children)

Most of her character arc in ST is just her crying and screaming while pretending she's using the Force.

[–]Blindsid3d 447 points448 points  (25 children)

She’s arguably the worst child actor on the show.

[–]HeckFamous1760 131 points132 points  (1 child)

I think she was incredible, until Eleven learned how to speak lmao

[–]Krynn71 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Not even being sarcastic, but she genuinely did a good job acting like a "feral" child.

[–]The_Werodile 157 points158 points  (19 children)

I'm not sure it's arguable.

[–]treemoustache 275 points276 points  (13 children)

Noah Schnapp isn't great.

[–]Divine_fashionva 77 points78 points  (2 children)

Yup I don’t know how anyone can say Millie is the worst out of the main kids when Noah’s been terrible since season 3

Finn has gotten worse too, his acting in season 4 was terrible. Borderline unwatchable

[–]newtoreddir 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Child acting relies of different tricks than adult acting, and as the kids age into adults those tricks no longer work. And if they aren’t serious about improving their technique they will continue to slide.

[–]TheGreatStories 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Finn was really good in 1 and 2 but 3 and 4 the character and the acting have been meh. Caleb and Gaten got better and better.

Child actors are a crapshoot with how they'll develop I guess

[–]buttboob_ 117 points118 points  (2 children)

I don’t know how anyone could say she’s worse than Finn Wolfhard. The last couple seasons he’s had some of the worst acting I’ve watched in years.

[–]CommanderWar64 73 points74 points  (1 child)

honestly most of the kids are the worst part of that show

[–]Blindsid3d 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I think that Caleb McLaughlin and Sadie Sink are very good. The rest are average at worst. Overall pretty successful casting all things considered with the failure rate of child actors. Finn and Millie are pretty average but have the most name value due to the amount of exposure they got from the show early on.

[–]_Doctor_Mac 72 points73 points  (9 children)

I don’t think that this is very uncommon belief. Her only major role outside of Netflix stuff has been her terrible role in the new Godzilla verse movies

[–]BasedTaco 29 points30 points  (3 children)

I felt like the whole storyline she was in made the movie worse. They didn't impact anything until the end when they spilled coffee on a computer. But got PLENTY of screentime to do nothing in.

[–]Yuebeo 22 points23 points  (2 children)

I remember seeing this movie with my dad and our general consensus was “movie was fun but why was Millie Bobbie Brown there? She did nothing until pouring coffee on a computer and there was like 3 other people in that scene that could also have done that exact thing”

[–]laaldiggaj 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Her smirk at Godzilla scene had me cringing and laughing.

[–]monkpunch 106 points107 points  (18 children)

I wish there was a term for "actors who were part of a great ensemble cast, who we try to shoehorn into leading roles, but find out they aren't really that good after all"

For example: almost everyone from Game of Thrones

[–]dutchfromsubway 81 points82 points  (9 children)

The writing in the first couple seasons were so good it definitely benefited people like Emilia, Sophie, kit. But there are legitimate great and proven actors in the cast, basically all the Lannister’s, Baelish, ned stark etc

[–]monkpunch 48 points49 points  (5 children)

Oh totally, although most of those are the older character/supporting actors. Unfortunately it was the young pretty ones that they kept trying to elevate, only to flop. At least Pedro Pascal made it though!

[–]2ToTooTwoFish 57 points58 points  (3 children)

Pedro Pascal's character has great writing for him, but it was basically a guarantee that he was a great actor because he captivated everyone with such little screentime. That's insanely difficult to do.

[–]Samiel_Fronsac 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Oberyn talking with Tyrion in the dungeon.

That scene was so intense and emotional. One just feels that Oberyn really understood Tyrion's plight... He got his own reasons to take the fight, sure, but he despised the casual cruelty of the Lannisters to Tyrion and it showed.

Peter Dinklage & Pedro Pascal were awesome together.

I wish Oberyn had showboated a little less...

[–]kissingdistopia 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He got his head crushed and the rest of us got crushes.

[–]caninehere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, but most of those were older actors who were already well-established. Ned Stark was played by Sean Bean who was already plenty famous and acclaimed, he was the famous face who drew people into the show at first.

I do think it helped some younger audiences see older performers who had faded a bit, and in some cases gave them a second wind. Charles Dance for example. And then there is Diana Rigg who maybe put in one of the best performances in the entire show, who most people under the age of 50 probably didn't know since she was so famous in the 60s/70s and her stardom kinda faded after that.

[–]ReachersFists 102 points103 points  (12 children)

At this point she’s getting the bag and more power to her.

[–]Blindsid3d 60 points61 points  (11 children)

If she can pull the Radcliffe and get the bag while she’s young then she can take whatever projects she wants later. Pretty good deal if the child acting doesn’t ruin you like it has so many.

[–]caninehere 25 points26 points  (2 children)

I think you have to be a good actor for that to work. You could tell Daniel Radcliffe was talented even in Harry Potter.

[–]YQB123 42 points43 points  (2 children)

In fairness, you have to be a decent actor to get the roles later in life.

She may very well fade after Stranger Things.

[–]TheStryfe 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Except Radcliffe was talented. An accurate comparison would be Emma Watson who cant act for shit

[–]nabster100 219 points220 points  (24 children)

She was actually very charming and charismatic in the Enola Holmes movies.

[–]eltrotter 106 points107 points  (3 children)

Watched the first one a little while ago and it was the first thing I'd seen her in (I didn't watch Stranger Things). I have to say, I don't think enough credit is given to her charisma basically carrying the film and she was just 16 years old when it came out.

She's supported by a great cast (I never knew I wanted to see Henry Cavell as Swolelock Holmes) but MBB is remarkable in it considering her age.

[–]TomBirkenstock 37 points38 points  (2 children)

Those are ideal Netflix movies. They're light and fun with a bit of mystery to keep the plot going, but they're also kind of forgettable. They're good enough to stream if you're looking for something not too demanding, but I couldn't see them being a draw in the cinemas.

Also, I do think she's charming enough to carry the films. I hope they finish out the trilogy.

[–]Deckerdome 57 points58 points  (0 children)

She's been pretty average in everything else she's been in. I really don't get the push that she's a major talent.

[–]tipsea-69 351 points352 points  (5 children)

"It's Damselin time !"...and she grabbed the big sword and charged towards the dragon.

[–]fanboy_killer 348 points349 points  (14 children)

Oh, the "Only on Netflix" seal of quality! I think we have another 5.4 on IMDb on our hands.

[–]Ashland6 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Was thinking this. The Netflix logo cheapens it for me. There’s so much shit content on that platform.

[–]Inside_Performer918 146 points147 points  (5 children)

Lol. They actually made this?

[–]Graynard 93 points94 points  (3 children)

Big straight to DVD vibes

[–]TemplehofSteve 62 points63 points  (0 children)

All Netflix original content has that vibe to me. Cheap.

[–]rpotty 180 points181 points  (12 children)

I don’t want to sound like a jerk but her acting is really not great.

[–]CanadaG00s3 53 points54 points  (4 children)

She's really good at screaming and getting random nosebleeds tho

[–]FrogWizzurd 35 points36 points  (4 children)

She's the least talented out of the entire cast from stranger things tbh

[–]poopypoopy1125 9 points10 points  (0 children)

not when Noah is also a part of the show

[–]laaldiggaj 176 points177 points  (15 children)

Who will be her idiot male sidekick?

[–]TheObservationalist 217 points218 points  (38 children)

Can we please stop pretending that the deconstruction of the damsel in distress trope or strong warrior women is some kind of groundbreaking concept? It's been done and done and done again, and in some instances way better than what this looks like. Xena warrior princess came out nearly 30 years ago ffs. The early 2000s had Ella Enchanted, and a shitload of other deconstructed princess content. Disenchantment is recent, and hilarious.  No one has made a movie about a helpless damsel in distress in like.....40 years. Let it tf go Hollywood, you look so desperate.  Edit: oh oh I forgot about the entire show of Once Upon a Time! And Shrek! And Brave! And The Huntsman, which was shit but anyway the list goes on.

[–]mcs0223 70 points71 points  (2 children)

Star Wars did it in 1977.

[–]ChildofValhalla 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Mulan did it in like, 315 AD lol.

[–]SnailPudding 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Pirates of the Caribbean! Elizabeth is a baddie

[–]rotomangler 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Shrek even used this trope.

[–]CriticalNovel22 42 points43 points  (6 children)

I can assure you, nobody thinks anything about this movie is groundbreaking.

[–]lynypixie 26 points27 points  (1 child)

I grew up with Buffy and Sailor Moon. When strong female leads were done correctly

[–]OMG2Reddit 255 points256 points  (13 children)

There will most likely be a scene where she single handidly bests a 6 foot tall muscular giant in deadly combat to prove her strength

[–]witcherstrife 221 points222 points  (1 child)

God I hope there’s a scene where her twig arms knock him out with one punch. And everyone in the room looks at her and claps as she quips “six brothers.”

[–]cowpool20 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Or a guy will struggle in a fight, then she’ll defeat them easily, look at him and say “can’t always be around to take care of you boys”, while walking away.

[–]Fancy-Pair 99 points100 points  (1 child)

Do you think she’ll do that thing where they jump up on their neck and choke them with their legs while hitting them in the head?

[–]OMG2Reddit 38 points39 points  (0 children)

O thats just a given - and then walk it off extremely casually as everyone stares in disbelief

[–]SALTYxNUTZ12 211 points212 points  (8 children)

I'm sure Drake will be watching this.

[–]TheConqueror74 207 points208 points  (1 child)

Isn’t she a bit old for him at this point?

[–]Mysterious_Ad_5261 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Great, looks terrible

[–]SurfCrazy 62 points63 points  (0 children)

This is going to be terrible.

[–]Mirinya 44 points45 points  (2 children)

Will she have a personality or is she gonna girl boss?

[–]Ok_Antelope_1953 24 points25 points  (0 children)

she will yasssss like the queeeeeeen she is and slayyyyyyy like the ultimate boss babe

[–]Rindan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to imply that a girl boss whose only flaw is that she doesn't ignore everyone around her and accept how perfect and awesome she is isn't a personality??!?

[–]MakruchaLT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks like most netflix “straight to dvd” movies.

[–]Hertje73 81 points82 points  (5 children)

I'm taking a wild guess this is one of these action movie where super petite and skinny actress beats up huge burly men like they are helpless rag dolls?

[–]roadside0428 38 points39 points  (2 children)

She's a terrible actress. As many have said, she had a few good moments in ST here and there. But mostly just from the first season. Everything since then has been bad. This movie is going to flop.

[–]14thCenturyHood 89 points90 points  (6 children)

Oh wow another “badass” female character with zero flaws and fights with a sword. Yawn.

[–]saintjimmy43 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Fucking 2009-ass movie idea. "Girls can do stuff too, doesnt that just BLOW your MIND?!!!!?"

[–]Taograd359 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Didn’t the trailer for this come out like…a long time ago? I forgot this movie was even a thing.

[–]Scotty_2_Thotty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Directed by the guy who directed 28 Weeks Later, and it's the first movie he's directed since 2011??? Oh this movie is gonna be bad bad.

[–]MaggotMinded 47 points48 points  (4 children)

Why are movie producers still acting like a badass female lead is subversive? The “damsel in distress” has been a dead trope for decades now.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's presented as though it's a critique on a social norm, but it's a norm that hasn't existed for a long time. Because genuine critiques on actual social norms are not financially wise and are rarely well-received.

[–]Strachmed 68 points69 points  (1 child)

"This is not a fairytale"

Maybe not, but this is cringe as hell. March 8 as well. It feels like it's trying too hard with the strong, independent woman trope, coupled with a mediocre actress in main role.

[–]awayshewent 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ugh I really hate subversive girl boss action schlock like this. Blue Eye Samurai gave me actual complex interesting women kicking ass and it was so refreshing.

[–]Primary_Dirt5769 35 points36 points  (1 child)

I can’t wait to not watch this movie

[–]VinylHighway 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'm sure a 5'3" 98 lb woman will be taking down knights with her sword and Black Widow leg takedowns

[–]darthurface 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hard pass

[–]laaldiggaj 56 points57 points  (6 children)

Finally! A film for women.

[–]torgobigknees 36 points37 points  (2 children)

its about damn time!

[–]SchrodingersCatPics 24 points25 points  (1 child)

it’s about damn damsel time!

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We should come up with a name for this! Something that lets people know that it's a flick, but for chicks. Hmmm.

[–]SnooGadgets7506 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sword looks like it's made of plastic

[–]Danit0_StyLeOG 16 points17 points  (0 children)
