Superman's a healer.

[–]Thybro 948 points949 points  (233 children)

First thing I thought. DPS wouldn't care about saving anyone it's all about the numbers and tanks would say they are saving EVERYONE not just someone's puny life. So yeah sups is a healer

[–]garmeth06 345 points346 points  (69 children)

When its about the numbers you can't answer phone calls m8.

Are you a casual????

[–]nayiro 163 points164 points  (62 children)

Can't mess up that rotation!

[–]Snoyarc 85 points86 points  (60 children)

In a dungeon? Nah. I used to have to wand to not pull aggro in WotLK.

[–]DuchessofSquee 125 points126 points  (37 children)

Found the mage.

[–]SonicFlash01 48 points49 points  (20 children)

Moonkin here. I don't understand what aggro and wands are?

[–]the_fathead44 19 points20 points  (3 children)

I not smart, but I stand and take hits!

[–]mcnutts 16 points17 points  (9 children)

Then you vastly out geared the tank or the tank was bad. WotLK was the expansion where DPS could go balls out because threat didn't matter any more because tanks mad so much of it. There was no more "Wait for 3 sunders".

[–]Mad_Murdock_0311 98 points99 points  (147 children)

Possibly a tank. You have to taunt when some shithead DPS decides he wants to be at the top of the meters and doesn't think to watch his aggro.

[–]TeaBurntMyTongue 222 points223 points  (69 children)

You mean you have to taunt when your threat production blows dick?

[–][deleted]  (18 children)

[deleted]

    [–]Sulfurous_Sunrise 26 points27 points  (17 children)

Truth. Taunting was a lot more prevalent earlier on and also for a bit at the beginning of MoP.

    [–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (9 children)

It also depends on progression and gear. Dps needs to be careful during early progression. Taunt isn't just an oh shit skill.

    [–]Crownlol 101 points102 points  (41 children)

Spoiled ass WoD kids. Back in my day, if a DPS used a cooldown - you freaking knew. Mage crits twice? Gotta taunt it off. DPS begins attacking before 3 sunders? Gotta taunt it off.

These days you can raid with an NES controller :-/

    [–]USMC2336 65 points66 points  (4 children)

These days you can raid with your feet

    [–]gthp95 31 points32 points  (7 children)

Every time I hear a vanilla player go " back in day..." I think they're 70+years old.

    [–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (50 children)

I haven't played those types of games in awhile but I remember my rule was "if you pull threat you die". I'm not going to risk wiping the raid trying to save your stupid ass. Learn to manage your threat or die and let the healers res you when they get the chance. This is just for adds and such. Obviously the bosses you never had to worry about losing threat when I played. Only time I had to worry about people pulling off of me during a boss was if I was super undergeared.

Not sure how much the game has changed since. I haven't touched it since WOTLK. Man those days were the best. Pally tank all the way.

    [–]mynameisgoose 68 points69 points  (34 children)

If the healer dies, it's the tank's fault. If the tank dies, it's the healer's fault. If DPS dies, it's their own damn fault.

...but yeah, you won't lose threat nowadays unless it's a hunter's pet, elemental, or something like that.

BC was the golden age. Wrath was alright. Got progressively worse after that. Super easy now.

    [–]Andygator_and_Weed 23 points24 points  (14 children)

BC Raiding in Hyjal and Black temple was the move fun I've ever had playing a video game. All my buddies were in the guild, we'd smoke, drink 40s. In Wrath I'd try to raid lead. The first time I lead a raid was in Naxx, I was high as piss, and I didn't know how to kill Mexxina or w/e the spider bitch was. "Uhh, alright guys, you know this fight, lets kill the spider bitch. Don't fuck up"

    Surprisingly enough, it went well.

    [–]mynameisgoose 10 points11 points  (6 children)

Same here, man. I'm trying to play again, the magic ain't there.

    [–]throwawaylife_321 11 points12 points  (7 children)

    Super easy now.

I stopped after Wrath (which was still ok itself). RIP old school WoW.

    [–]lejone 13 points14 points  (6 children)

FWIW it was real easy pulling aggro off a tank in Vanilla. That was a big reason why rogues and hunters were so valuable (Feint, Vanish and Feign Death). I played a rogue and definitely had to weave in Feints before my first Vanish. Warlocks actually had the highest DPS but was capped by aggro.

Of course it wasn't long before we had threat meters to make things muuuch easier.

    [–]essential_ 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Ya, DPS could take a break during a raid or dungeon and it wouldn't be any issues, possibly just die and get a battle res... Now heals, or tank! You can't just look the other way while a fight is happening, not in WoW at least...

    [–]rage-before-pity 23 points24 points  (31 children)

I came to the comments to discover what kind, I have a strong feeling leaning towards Resto Sham but I can't think of any reasons.

    [–][deleted] 73 points74 points  (21 children)

    Definitely holy pally.

    [–]linkedin-request 76 points77 points  (20 children)

Ugh... this is like the second thread where conversation delved into WoW on the front page today, and now I'm starting to get cravings for a game I haven't played in over five years.

    [–]tessany 13 points14 points  (7 children)

Strange because l was leaning towards healadin!

    [–]jeb_manion 3455 points3456 points  (405 children)

I don't get the other comments, but this story is well known, it's not like he is making it up to be cool. He said it years ago on a talk show. The movie was alright, but I actually like Henry Cavill more than I do his portrayal of Superman. In fact, he should put more of himself into superman and people would love it. He is pretty funny and witty from the bits I have seen of him on Twitter and stuff.

    [–]bluemandan 2431 points2432 points  (184 children)

Did you see "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.?"

I really liked him in that.

    [–]DreamingMerc 102 points103 points  (2 children)

That movie only proved to me we could make an Archer live action movie with Cavill as the title character.

    [–]Zahir_SMASH 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Cavill really did nail the same vibe as Archer perfectly, I would be all for this

    [–]jeb_manion 729 points730 points  (115 children)

Yeah, to be fair, I went into that movie thinking it would define horrible, so I ended up really digging it when I found out it was a pretty solid flick

    [–]NaljunForgotPassword 884 points885 points  (39 children)

Yeah, the back and forth between the two spies really made that movie for me. Like when Cavill finds the lunch in that truck and everything is happening in the background while he listens to music.. God I laughed so hard.

    [–]matt01ss 181 points182 points  (2 children)

    [–]GirlsCallMeMatty 31 points32 points  (1 child)

Watched this with my little brother and we say that to each other so much now.

    [–]atheist_teapot 149 points150 points  (11 children)

It's definitely one of my favorite scenes. The look of disappointment when he has to cut it short and start driving and the heavy sigh when he decides to drive out on the boat make the scene for me.

    [–]NaljunForgotPassword 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Exactly. their chemistry and the juxtaposition of their personalities made even the scenes with little dialogue fantastic.

    [–]squashbanana 60 points61 points  (8 children)

Oh my god, I just watched this movie for the first time this past weekend, and it was so funny! That scene killed me. The poor KGB guy, haha. I really hope they make another!

    [–]CBSU 43 points44 points  (3 children)

As do I, but with its extremely subpar performance in the box office it seems unlikely.

    [–]PotentialMistake 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Well extremely sub par advertising will do that for you. I only found out about it because I saw it on the Xbox Marketplace about two months before DVD release.

    [–]ElectroBoof 20 points21 points  (2 children)

It was seriously one of the better movies I've seen in a while. Another would be so cool.

    [–]Big_Toke_Yo 67 points68 points  (5 children)

Right before that the swimming line got everyone in the theatre.

    [–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (2 children)

Alicia Vikander: best part in that movie

    [–]Sugreev2001 23 points24 points  (1 child)

It's a great movie. I really dig Guy Ritchie's style and I wish the movie was a big success, so we could see more films in the same universe.

    [–]acquarossa 123 points124 points  (53 children)

What!? when I see guy ritchie's name i go into the movie thinking its going to be great!

    [–]Marshallvsthemachine 59 points60 points  (27 children)

For whatever reason Guy Ritche's movies always seem to score low in reviews, which I don't really get.

    [–]Monteze 117 points118 points  (20 children)

I think because he makes fun movies instead of pandering to critics. Snatch is probably in my top 3 most watched movies, they are just fun.

    [–][deleted] 52 points53 points  (9 children)

Snatch is just the most fun I have watching a movie, period. I don't really know why, I can rationally deconstruct and realize "oh I like him cause he's undecipherable" or "oh he's a walking trope" but I still LOVE IT.

    [–]hornyhooligan 43 points44 points  (5 children)

    "Oi!"

    "What?"

"You said he was a getaway driver, what the FUCK can he get away from?!"

That sent me into a ten-minute laughing fit the first time I watched it

    [–]_goibniu_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"You could land a jumbo-fucking-jet in there!"

    [–]NothappyJane 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Snatch is up with Die Hard for my favourite its so ridiculous its great movies.

    [–]SomeOtherGuysJunk 25 points26 points  (5 children)

Where is rock n rolla 2 goddamnit!

    [–]Instantcretin 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Seriously, they literally said there was going to be a Rock n Rolla 2 at the end of the first one.

    [–]20jcp 29 points30 points  (15 children)

Except Revolver. We don't talk about Revolver.

Edit: by the sounds of the replies below, I should revisit Revolver and give it another shot.

    [–]PythagorasJones 29 points30 points  (2 children)

"My wife Madonna is into Kabbala now, so I guess I am too."

    [–]YNot1989 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nobody's perfect. Not even Guy Ritchie.

    [–]HTLX2 15 points16 points  (7 children)

I really enjoyed revolver. A lot.

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (6 children)

That movie, even though he's American in it, sold me on him as Bond. He would be very different to Craig and I think could bring back some of the refined, sauve but arrogant Bond of the past, not that Craig doesn't have his moments, but it's a more brutal, serious Bond in his films.

    [–][deleted]  (7 children)

      [–]jacls0608 40 points41 points  (1 child)

It was kinda hammy at parts, but personally I thought that was half the point.

I really enjoyed it. I'm glad I gave it a chance.

      [–]I_punch_KIDneyS 44 points45 points  (3 children)

Man... I feel like I'm the only one who noticed the gorgeous shots, the lighting, the cinematography, set and costume design and everything else was crisp and clean.

If ever I'll get to make a film I would emulate the production as much as possible. Sound needs a bit more work though.

      [–]Traiteur 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That was one of the reasons that made it so easy to love. The color grading was so... creamy. The lighting was amazing throughout the entire movie. The settings were amazing...

      I have a thing for 60s jet-set based films

      [–]Rengas 13 points14 points  (1 child)

http://i.imgur.com/1xPnHIx.gif This whole sequence was amazing.

      [–]Muppetude 33 points34 points  (1 child)

Yeah he had a real confident swagger about him that I wish Snyder allowed him to bring to the superman role.

      [–]TrepanationBy45 22 points23 points  (6 children)

I liked him in The Count of Monte Cristo! Hell, I liked everybody in that movie!

      [–]wbgraphic 80 points81 points  (2 children)

It was a hell of a lot of fun, and Cavill was fantastic.

My son wanted to see Ant-Man for his 15th birthday. It was going to be late in the run, so I had him pick an alternate, just in case Ant-Man wasn't showing. It was, so we saw it and were thoroughly entertained.

A few months later, we were able to see The Man from UNCLE at home. After the movie, my son said, "I would have been totally cool seeing this instead of Ant-Man."

      [–]GetGhettoBlasted 141 points142 points  (10 children)

That movie was a sleeper. It was like a live action archer lol

      [–]richardsim7 72 points73 points  (2 children)

In case you weren't aware, Archer takes heavy influence from The Man from U.N.C.L.E :)

      [–]SizzlyG 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Archer takes heavy influence from every spy show/movie from the sixties and such, so you're right, man from U.N.C.L.E. is obviously a huge part of that.

      [–]Monteze 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If you could dub his voice over with Benjamins he would make a damn good Archer.

      [–]StayPuffGoomba 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Watching UNCLE made me think that if they ever do a live action Archer, Cavill needs to play him. The rest of the cast could basically play themselves.

      [–]dibsODDJOB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just watched it, I think he was the best part of the movie.

      [–][deleted] 486 points487 points  (65 children)

Yeah, Henry Cavill is so far as appearance the perfect Superman, and he brings a nice solemnity and sense of justice to the role. The problem is Snyder and it always has been.

      [–]jeb_manion 326 points327 points  (32 children)

And it sucks when you see him do interviews and he is this humble and, dare I say, sweet giant. That's superman! Combine his natural charm with that sense of justice and you have a true rival to Christopher reeves.

      [–]YNot1989 194 points195 points  (22 children)

I just wish they'd let him act like that in the friggin movie instead of the dour, mopey Superman they insist on giving us.

      [–]JustZisGuy 69 points70 points  (18 children)

      Dower

You meant 'dour'. 'Dower' is a word, but not the right one. :)

      [–][deleted] 51 points52 points  (24 children)

      Same with Routh.

Both fit the bill physically and can act just fine, both thrown in bad movies.

      [–]BaconKnight 72 points73 points  (22 children)

Routh doesn't have the traditional masculine "square jawed" look. He's more in line with Brian Singer's pretty boy young males he seems to have an affinity for (e.g. Shawn Ashmore, Nicholas Hoult).

      [–]SentientTrafficCone 98 points99 points  (4 children)

      Affinity's one word for it.

      [–]haberdasher42 33 points34 points  (3 children)

      Who calls their penis "Affinity"?

      [–]uncoolaidman 52 points53 points  (14 children)

I'm all for a good Bryan Singer joke, but I'm pretty sure with Superman Returns they were casting someone that would resemble Christopher Reeves. And they actually did a pretty good job of that with Brandon Routh.

      [–]Trendd 205 points206 points  (11 children)

      to be cool

playing wow to be cool? what a time to be alive.

      [–]Donakebab 38 points39 points  (3 children)

Hey bbe check out the size of my ilvl.

      [–]inky95 41 points42 points  (4 children)

Celebrities admitting to nerdiness is great PR. Gives them that relatability factor that's skyrocketed the fame of people like JLaw and Chris Pratt.

      [–]Jurassicasskick 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I met him during a private screening of Immortals in Vancouver, BC. He had flown in a bunch of friends from New Zealand and they were really excited to see him on screen.

      Legit guy. Built like Superman.

      [–]Sikido 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He trains like a maniac for the role, and has proven himself a worthy actor I think. In this case I think it's the fault of a poor script coupled with bad directing decisions that formed his performance. Unfortunately

      [–]VinDieseled 461 points462 points  (18 children)

When a girl says they like nerdy looking guys and they mean Henry Cavill.

But seriously that's a beautiful man

        [–]Mathilliterate_asian 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I got pregnant too when I first saw him unshaven and ruggedly naked in Man of Steel. And I'm a straight guy. Well WAS a straight guy. I turned gay for Henry Cavill.

But hot damn that beard and body, more specifically dem shoulders. So good HNNNGGGGGGG.

        [–]ThomsYorkieBars 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure everyone turned gay or pregnant at that scene

        [–]MouthJob 1340 points1341 points  (303 children)

Yeah, people need to get over the hate. There's nothing wrong with him as Superman. Just like Ben was great as Batman. They can't do anything but work with the scripts they're given.

        [–]DaTerrOn 711 points712 points  (202 children)

This is part of why we lost an Amazing Spiderman .

        [–]Laugh_At_Everything 517 points518 points  (134 children)

And Green Lantern. I think Ryan Reynolds makes a great Hal Jordan. Its just that the script sucked ass.

        [–][deleted]  (86 children)

        [deleted]

          [–]MouthJob 345 points346 points  (80 children)

Yeah, going to have to agree with this. If he had continued as Green Lantern, we may have never gotten Deadpool.

Interesting to think about, though. First, Ben Afleck's in a terrible Daredevil film and then goes on to become one of the best Batmans/Bruce Waynes ever. Then Reynolds makes a terrible Green Lantern movie and transitions into, and I feel comfortable saying this at this point, the Deadpool.

          Who's going to be next?

          [–]Zeiramsy 374 points375 points  (39 children)

Well Evans Cap > Evans Human Torch

          [–]ninjivitis 310 points311 points  (29 children)

Evans' human torch was perfect. The problem was the movies not being good.

Basically the entire problem with those movies summed up in one sentence.

            [–]TimeTravelMishap 76 points77 points  (2 children)

and with this post and its 5 upvotes the annual convention of the entire Fantastic Four movie fanbase comes to a close.

            [–]Velnica 56 points57 points  (0 children)

You're forgetting Mr. Human Torch who grew up to become buff as fuck Captain America.

            [–]iamstarwolf 54 points55 points  (34 children)

Ehhhhhh Ryan Reynolds would've been a better Kyle Raynor I think. Reynolds is a bit too witty and silly whereas Hal Jordan is more of an oblivious ideologist that has to fix everything.

            [–]halfanangrybadger 52 points53 points  (26 children)

Jordan, Green Arrow, and Wally West are the light side of the Justice League, the "fun" side. They always have been. Jordan may not be as much of a jokester as Deadpool but he wasn't as deadpan as Batman or MM by any means.

            [–]delicious_burritos 55 points56 points  (25 children)

Which is funny, because the Arrow TV show tends to portray him as a dark, brooding, mostly humorless dude who barely says more than one sentence in a conversation.

This may have changed though, since I stopped watching after season 2.

            [–]halfanangrybadger 27 points28 points  (7 children)

Yeah. Watch the original Justice League Unlimited series, you'll get a lot more of Oliver's sarcastic side.

            [–]mrbooze 19 points20 points  (4 children)

Yes, I've never been able to get into Arrow because Oliver Queen is supposed to be a disrespectful rich lefty, not Batman 2.0.

            [–]NonerBoner 18 points19 points  (6 children)

There was actually one funny line from Oliver in the latest episode. The humor and his delivery startled me it was so uncharacteristic. Something about a villain not being as bad as Voldemort and that yeah, he's read Harry Potter.

I really hope they delve into that side of Green Arrow and knock it off with this Felicity bullshit.

            [–]drewxdeficit 16 points17 points  (5 children)

Kyle Raynor is Hispanic, though. Other than Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds is, like, the white actor.

But, really, you white, you Ben Affleck.

            [–]Rickrickrickrickrick 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Next to Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck was the one who truly understood the dynamic between Bruce Wayne and Batman...he got the Batman is the real persona and that Bruce Wayne has to be worked and tweaked and isn't natural, and that Wayne's almost always harder than being the Bat. ("Nice shoes.")

There's that scene (it's in the trailer, not a spoiler) where he's asked about the Batman in Gotham -- and his eyes shift, and his shoulder change, and his voice goes an octave lower, and he's no longer Bruce Wayne. He's the Batman, and he's pissed. It happens so fast -- it was like seeing a new guy on screen.

                    Affleck was a fantastic Batman.

also gagets! not just brute strength! overall it was way better than the critics panned it but it did have weaknesses that keep it from being as good as most if not all of the recent marvel movies.

I'll say it: Affleck is the best Wayne and Batman, the complete character. I never liked Keaton, we won't talk about Kilmer and Clooney (although Kilmer was better) and while Bale was a great Bruce Wayne, he was a terrible Batman IMO. Over-the-top voice, poor fighting and just generally too soft.

The overall attitude, tone and presentation of Batman (except for the gun thing, but I understand that based on the context) is the diamond in the rough of Batman v Superman. This is a dude that is very rough around the edges who is obviously very close to completely going off the deep end. He's somber, broody and does not fuck around with his "victims", unlike Bale's version that whines about Rachel and gushes over Dent all the time. Batfleck is a pendulum of instability that is seemingly only held together by Alfred, but you can tell he's about given up as well, almost becoming an enabler at this point with his " fuck it you haven't died yet" apathy showing itself in the movie.

Hopefully a different director gets their claws in this new Batman. I actually think Affleck himself would do a good job with it based on how well he plays it, despite the writing limitations.

Every Batman film has been about NEW Batman. Keaton has been doing it for a few years, sure, but he's still wet behind the ears.

I agree we won't speak of Kilmer and Clooney...Bale tries to shoehorn experience in, but the dude was on an eight year hiatus. Doing it for two or three years and taking an almost decade break isn't experience.

This was a 20 year veteran Batman. This was "I've watched comrades die" Batman. This was "I've survived" Batman.

Batman doesn't win because he's smarter or stronger or faster. He wins from sheer experience...he's done this for so long, he knows the next move before the next move comes.

It was fun to see that Batman. That's the Batman I know and love.

                    [–]storyr 30 points31 points  (6 children)

Agreed, I loved BvS's Batman, and while I do like the Nolan movies, Batman is "The World's Greatest Detective." Nolan's Batman was "The World's Luckiest Motherfucker."

                    [–]jmblumenshine 17 points18 points  (3 children)

I agree. Nolan's batman never did any actual detective work. He was more a bull in a china shop. Barge in and fight your way out. Affleck's batman actually spent time setting up traps and thinking how to capture his prey.

I can't wait to see the affleck directed batman because I think it is going to be a true noir film

I just watched B vs S yesterday. I liked it a lot. There were a couple of things I wished were different, but overall it was a solid super hero movie. Way better than the last Avengers and Ant-man movies for sure... Then again I loved Man of steel so I guess I just bad taste according to reddit and rottentomatoes.

He really was. I started re-watching it last week. It's incredible to see him and JRM both play very mercurial characters in very different ways.

The writing went downhill without her. I think she was the writers' muse. During her last AMA, I meant to ask her which of her four TV royalty husbands would win in a fight.

Judging by the time it was announced he was cast for Man of Steel, he would of been playing during the Cataclysm expansion of World of Warcraft. Assuming he was max level, the dungeons at the time were in fact very difficult and required a lot more coordination between group members than the previous expansion's. This was a problem as most dungeon groups were formed at random through the Looking For Group (LFG) tool rather than being formed manually through player interaction. This meant you'd often be stuck with people who either didn't know what to do or didn't work well as a team. So it's understandable if he missed the phone during a difficult fight. It'd be pretty ironic if he was in the Stonecore dungeon though, seeing as it is a large cavern filled with crystals that look similar to Kryptonite.

They were difficult until Blizz unnecessarily nerfed them to the ground. I got the volcanic stone drake in only random dungeon finder groups. There was no reason to nerf them >:[

To clarify though, addiction to WoW is probably a symptom, not the main issue. You don't ruin your life because you play too much WoW; you play too much WoW because it becomes more appealing than your real life, so it just magnifies those problems. Feeling lonely? Worthless? In the game you're not. Having access to an entirely different world that allows you to take a vacation from your less-than-perfect real life - - of course that's addictive.

No I'm not speaking from experience. Mind your own business. Fuck you.

                        [–]Antacid77 22 points23 points  (2 children)

I don't doubt that what you said is true for many people. But I would like to point out that I really think WoW can be flat out addictive and life destroying even when things are going good.

Some people have addictive personalities, and WoW is the champion of abusing that sort of mentality. As someone who used to live in WoW, it was never to "escape" but simply because WoW was an absolutely incredible experience that never got old or tiresome. (well it eventually did, after like 5000+ hours of playtime)

I never let it destroy my life, but it definitely made me retake a year of university. Either way, WoW was just an incredible game for its time, and its easy to get lost in the depth of its world.

Christopher Reeves' Superman would look like an idiot if you threw him into the world that Cavil's Superman lives in.

Cavil's Superman portrayal is perfect for the environment he has to live in over the last two films.

Perhaps in time, he will win over the people of earth and establish himself as the symbol of light and good and hope and justice that all the Reeve's fans wish he already was, but it doesn't make sense yet for him to lead that charge and become that guy when so many are still fighting against him.

This is a very young Superman, let him grow.
