The behind the wall thing ive noticed many many times and it honestly makes you wonder why TF your playing when the game is still in this state.

I stopped playing the multiplayer back on Dec. 8th when the campaign dropped, due to how bad the desync was back then. I decided to reinstall after the Season 2 live stream and warm up a little before coming back for the new content, and I was genuinely floored by how much the connection has deteriorated since December.

Back then it was impossible to take matches seriously as a UK player, due to how inconsistent the connection was, but coming back it was literally unplayable. 15+ minute search times during peak hours for quick play, only half full lobbies and so much rampant rubber banding I genuinely thought it had connected me to a server in Japan or something.

Part of that can be attributed to the drastically reduced playerbase. Last time I checked, back in March, the number of players was down 70% from when the game launched iirc

My issue is the constant ping spikes on certain servers. Didn't happen when I could make my game only connect to West Coast/Central servers. East coast makes me want to off myself

        The only game I've played where I can have 17 ms ping and crazy desync/packet loss like that. And no, I don't have shitty internet. It's not fiber, but its xfinity "gigabit"

        I've been playing games with shitty internet for my whole life. And never seen shit like this. Only example i can think of is Rainbow 6 Siege, because it's server's were shitshow back then too. And it still wasn't that bad

        I mean infinite is a shitshow but yeah, you're completely correct. People can actually do a lot to improve their connections by getting a decent router, configuring it properly, having good quality cables (this does not mean gold plated marketing crap just good premade cables), a half decent switch if you use one etc.

        Makes a world of difference. Can't help shitty servers but at least it means you're doing everything you can your end.

        Yeah you're much better off (when you have the choice) looking into a higher quality ISP and getting one of their cheaper plans than the one that gives you the fastest pipe for the lowest cost, even if it feels you're paying more for less.

        Though I know some people just don't have any choice, which sucks.

        My area has ONE broadband provider. Formerly Time Warner, now Spectrum. The only incentive for them to upgrade was NY state threatening to sue them millions of dollars because they promised to upgrade infrastructure with the merge of Time Warner and Charter to become Spectrum. After a year they had not delivered on their promise and NY threatened to break them up and fine them x Millions of dollars. Otherwise we’d still be stuck at 100Mbps for 90 dollars

          I've noticed this with the Bulldog too. I get 2-shot from 20 feet away while I spend an entire mag on someone who's 5 feet away and die anyway.

          Are you making sure to actually press the fire button instead of melee? While most of this video is absolutely correct, in that “gravity hammer for me” part they very clearly meleed and missed hard. For some reason they decided to use the same animation for both in this game and it just makes the flash and noise if you press fire so videos like this get to look worse than they are.

          There is zero way they can't do anything about it. Something is broken, other games handle these systems fine, infinite can get there. Whether or not it does is on 343.

            It's both. Both are important. You can deal with the occasional technical issues if you're still having fun with new content and fresh experiences. But when there is literally nothing else to do in the game other than what you've already been doing for the past 5 months, then issues like desync are even more frustrating.

            FYI, some of the melee trades that you are expecting, but not getting are actually intentional.

            For some godforsaken reason they decided to implement a melee clash system for infinite. Basically if the health disparity between two people who melee each other (clash) is large enough, the weaker player’s melee gets severely reduced in damage.

            The death while using the mangler at about 40 seconds in your video is the perfect example. Yes you got the shot and you meleed. Normally this is a kill but your shield was almost completely gone and the enemy meleed too. So your melee got reduced in damage because they had way more health than you, resulting in you dying while they get to walk away.

            So that weird design decision almost no one knows about makes melee feel even worse on top of the network issues.

            I saw some video on it and tested it myself.

            You can test it too. You can do it with a bot but it’s easier with a person obviously.

            Use the BR, shoot someone twice while you have full shield. Melee them, they die. If they melee at the same time as you, you take some damage, but they still die.

            If you both shoot each other twice and both melee, it’s a trade.

            BUT

            If you shoot them twice but they get 4 shots on you and you both melee, they will survive the melee clash.

            I think (pure speculation) the idea behind the mechanic is that the person who is “winning” the encounter shouldn’t die in a melee trade. But it’s counter to how it’s always worked so it feels like BS, and it’s only exacerbated by the network issues.

                Tried to keep my ping in most of the clips. And sure, it is higher in most of them, but that should just tell you how badly we need a server select. But I can also say with confidence that the older Halo games on MCC never played this poorly when you're in lobbies with 90+ ping.

                I returned to Infinite earlier this week for the first time in two months, as I thought the black visor reward looked sweet and I may want it if I ever start playing Infinite regularly again (likely from season 3 at this rate...).

                Literally in my first game I experienced a botched melee and desync, and promptly switched off the game. Even a nice free cosmetic isn't worth dealing with such nonsense, when there are so many other games out there that are much more polished and content rich. Still playing MCC regularly. It's just such a better experience in every single way aside from graphics.

                  If the other players shoots you on their screen you get hit. Even if you are behind a wall on your screen. Sometimes there’s a delay as the game figures this out and you die late. I wish there was some middle ground for this.

                  The hammer thing is the weird trade system. Every game, hammer beats sword but in this one you clash but hammer will still beat sword as long as that person presses RT.

                  Some of this is due to latency and is unavoidable and common in shooters. But it's MUCH worse in this game IMO. Which is why I don't play anymore (among other reasons).

What's funny is just yesterday I had the energy sword roaming the map looking for enemies when I heard the connected melee sound behind me. I turned and slashed the player and then thought "That was messed up." Hahahahaha

But instead I was met with challenges not tracking, or downright stupid ones that I had to waste swaps on, or waiting times longer than a Leonard Cohen song to find a match of Team Slayer or FFA.

                  Maybe I'm just lucky or something. I've definitely had some phasing through enemies and an occasional rocket not doing as much damage as I'd expect, but those instances are still rare. Not trying to minimize the problems others are experiencing because it's downright unacceptable.

                  You are lucky. This shit is literally ever, single, game. Bullets disappearing, melee making the THWACK sound with no damage done, rockets doing almost no damage, grenades doing no damage, killed after a full second of being around a wall.

                    Its really clear the networking side of 343 could not finish their job before the set launch date, despite being given an extra year. This shit happens every match to everyone I know who ever played the game. We all have clips thanks to gamebar showing the same blatant stuff, and we would literally show eachother minutes of the same stuff happening after playing for like an hour. The game is completely unacceptable

                    Clips 1-5: Clearly missed.

                    Clips 6-9: Missed due to recoil (bad spray control).

                    Clips 10-11: Very close, but recoil and inaccuracy make these reasonable misses.

                    Clip 12: Likely didn't actually fire because Spartan was already dead.

                    Haven't seen much talk since / just the general desync is bad. but at the start of the week it genuinely feels much worse for some reason. Iv'e noticed that most of my deaths are behind walls and bullet reg being even worse still, where some of my kills are half sec delay before they die. On average I have anywhere from 24 to 60 long in game.

                    I really wanted to like this game. Went into it with an open mind. Tried not to compare it to Halos of yore. Had fun for about two weeks. Figured the issues were just new game kinks to workout. Things got worse. It's really a shame, I want to give 343 a chance. I just want a decent traditional shooter and I can't find one to play. All of the polish and resources are going to battle royales lately.

                    It's cool when 343 gave their netcode overview but it didn't really address the problem. There is a perception that infinite is doing substantially worse than other games, including older halo games, when it comes to network performance and lag compensation. The thing we are interested in is then if infinite is doing anything radically different than previous games when it comes to netcode, and what the trade offs in that design were.

                    Videos like this really don't tell the whole picture which is why this is such a vexxing issue. We would need live ping data on every player involved in each interaction to know whether this is something any game would have a hard time with or if infinite netcode is underperforming.

                    It would be great if 343 could not only acknowledge the poor lag compensation experience (they have done this) but also be honest about whether they have any possible levers to change on their side that would fundamentally improve it. Without the latter the former doesn't actually improve confidence. The deep dive into lag compensation mentioned some tweaks to which side the server favors in certain interactions but the problems are wider ranging.

                    this happens less than it use to for me, but still happens enough for me to do a video like this. Alot of it probably comes down from having to play with US player 9/10 when im in the uk. the games so dead in the eu. Having to shoot someone witha br 5-6 times is a good day.

Should I be getting shot around corners when I'm several metres behind a wall? Should I not be getting rocket kills when the explosion is maybe a metre away from the enemy? Should I not be getting a kill when I hit a headshot on someone with a sniper and see their shields literally flicker?
