It’s scary that not every girl looks up guys names on county sheriffs for records and end up going on dates with guys like this and end up on the 6 o clock news

This happened to a friend of mine. They met up at a public place the first time and apparently had a great date. The second time he came over to her apartment. I guess he wasn’t happy about the fact that she did not want to retreat to the bedroom with him and he became violent. Seriously violent. She ended up getting out of the situation alive, but if she had done a simple backround check she would’ve discovered he had twice been convicted of sexual assault. She’s now permanently traumatized, and the whole thing was completely preventable.

He put "running" as an interest, but he didn't mention "from the law."

It also sounds better than "chasing"

He also put "Leo," apparently they were supposed to go together as a sentence: "running from LEO"

Well here’s where she messed up: the guy who’s wanted is Mitchell & the guy on Tinder is Mitch! Clearly a totally different person…

Funny thing about that...I read a woman's explanation about the change thing.

Some women will do everything they can to change you, and once they complete the transformation, they realize they have changed everything that they liked about you in the first place. Then they move on.

That's not an explanation, that's just a sad story.

Yes, but hopefully the change is for the better and it attracts new women to you sooo win/win?

u/decadecency avatar

[deleted]
[deleted]

I hate when people try to tell me how I’m supposed to feel about their appearance. Like, I’ll decide that for myself, I don’t care how you think you look.

I've been told by some "alpha" guy that it's a "psychology trick" lol

I mean, he's not wrong - acting like you're attractive makes you more attractive in my experience.

But saying you're attractive and acting attractive are two completely different things.

I checked out her TikTok page. The pic of Mitch is apparently on the local police's FB page. If I'm not mistaken, wouldn't he be "wanted" for contempt if he'd failed to appear???

She did an update all "what if he didn't do it? I don't want to ruin his life." He ruined his own life by not showing for his hearing. Even if he was falsely accused, he still has to go through the process.

Edit: Apparently the contempt was for violating an order of protection . He was booked on Dec 1 for a felony and given $200,000 bail.

Edit again: Holy crap in a hat, it's even worse. The first incident was July 9, and on July 28, he violated the protection order again, somehow involving reckless driving endangering a child.

It does list Criminal Contempt.

u/thebenetar avatar

It does also say "Top 10 Most Wanted". I'm not sure simply missing a court date would be enough to warrant (pun not intended) being—what looks like—the number one most wanted person in an entire city/county, unless there's really just jack shit going down in Jamestown.

u/calibudzz420 avatar

If it’s Jamestown NY there is absolutely shit going on there. Small little town in western NY on the boarder of Pennsylvania. Not a very nice place but they’re building it up with attractions like the comedy museum and it’s home the meme of the ugly Lucille ball statue

Good on her for checking on potential dates. Stay safe out there!

As a dude, and one who would never stalk/drug/hurt a woman, it came as a rude awakening when I found out the shit women have to go through with dating and when they're out just to try and keep safe

Like would any guy even consider looking up a date's criminal history or anything? Maybe we check their social media or something but that's it

Shit's fucked

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo avatar

I know who check their female dates social media! …to make sure they’re not secretly fat. I was shocked to find that out because I was looking up the men on dates for criminal activity. Screenshot their picture, send it to a friend, tell them my location, text them multiple times throughout the night so they knew I was safe.

Don’t get me wrong, I get wanting to make sure someone looks like their pictures! It’s tinder, it’s 90% about looks. But the difference in straight men and straight women prepping for a date is wild.

“Mitchell A. Costanzo, 28, of Frewsburg, was charged with second-degree criminal contempt and fourth-degree criminal mischief. Officers responded at 11:06 p.m. Saturday to the south side of the city for a reported domestic dispute. It was found that Costanzo allegedly broke a window to a residence and fled prior to officers arriving. An investigation found that Costanzo violated an order of protection to stay away from a woman inside the residence. He was located a short time later and was transported to Jamestown City Jail.”

She found him in a criminal database with only "Mitch" and a few photos? Fake.

Mitch, lives in Jamestown.

Searches by first name Mitch in Jamestown criminal database. Maybe a couple dozen people pop up at most, look at the photos, narrow it down. Google reverse image search for Facebook profile. It's really not that hard.

Jamestown, NY is a town of 30,000 people. Everyone knows everyone lol it’s not that had to fathom. Source: my hometown. Really interesting place tbh. Very tourist oriented, worth a visit

u/Wiggins4mvp avatar

She explained it in another post, she follows the local PD on Facebook and they post a weekly local wanted list. Mitch was on it.

u/ZedTT avatar

Or she knows of him already and knew his last name and saw him on tinder?

There are a lot of explanations that don't involve this being fake.

Yes, Jamestown is small town, she definitely already knew or had a friend tell her

No no no. You misunderstand, haven't you been on a reddit post before. Anything less than an 80% chance of happening is immediately deemed fake by the all knowing reddit comments.

Well, the video poster is probably not an "average person".

more replies More replies

So then statistically its more likely that the original person above who stated "Fake" is likely one of the rather dumb ones? If he was above average he could have understood this is possible.

It's not that hard to find a person if you know how to search, but people don't know how to search xd

Once I was bored and my friend told me about her father who had left when she was a child, she told me his name, I found the Facebook account and we saw that he had a new family

I give people advice on googling themselves. Everyone will look you up. If you want to hide, don’t use an online nickname like foxy14748, use something like a mix of various famous peoples names. Sports athletes work well. Something generic. Michael McDavid, Jonathan Curry, etc. Google that name, make sure something comes up.

Never use your real name online and limit your socials. Never post your kids photos either.

The only people that know my real name is the government and the banks and close family. Most of my friends don’t even know my real last name.

A lot of people use their middle name as well, this can be effective too.

Friends mom learned my real first name when she attended my wedding, she’s like “who the hell is Edward”. Been friends with my buddy in my wedding party since we were kids.

I see Asian and South Asian people do this a lot when they try to “integrate”. Get an English name. It’s super effective as well especially if you have a common last name and use a Bible first name. David Li, Michael Kim.

Friend changed his name to Gary once and it was super effective when I caught up with him later in life.

I’ve seen women use a pseudonym for conferences/professionally and then if anyone called them that name later they knew where they found them from.

Someone walks up to you on the street and uses a certain name it could send off a bunch of red flags.

Use it for your protection. The internet is forever.

more replies More replies

most people do not want to search for people they have known. Why bother? Yes you can find them, but you are guaranteed more sadness.

I am average person and I have been looking up local criminals in my neighborhood everytime I move since I left my parent's house. It's easy to google "______, county arrests, FN\LN"

Depending on the area, it's really easy to find a whole bunch of info on someone from just their first name, location (city) and a picture of their face to confirm.

My gf when we first met, knew only my first name, and what city I lived in, and based on that, was able to find me on Facebook, get my full name, and found an article I wrote in college that was published in the paper. She brought it up on our second date.

Edit: My gf and I have been enjoying the replies/messages. Our favorite so far was the explicative riddled one with racist overtones, which was an interesting choice we felt. Overall a C-.

It's pretty wild how easy it is. I don't have a common first name. If you type in NAME, AGE, TOWN...the first result is a page that shows my current address with a link to the google maps street view of my house.

Like thanks...I'm active on dating apps, any woman that wants to see where I live, how much care I put into landscaping my yard or what I drive can do so in about 10 seconds.

u/FDaHBDY8XF7 avatar

I track down previous owners for lost cats based on the same amount of information. It's very, very easy to find out personal information from public information. Stay safe with your details everyone.

LOL. If you think that isn't enough, you need to go through and very thoroughly update your privacy settings on every online account you have.

Yes. Yes it fucking is. Because it's not just first name and a couple photos. It's name, location, and age (star sign, narrowing it down), and that much is definitely enough.

A lot of women could be working for the FBI if they wanted to.

I found my current husband's criminal record before we met with about as much information. I'm not even sure we had exchanged real names yet.

u/Val_Hallen avatar

I've had women refuse to date me because they couldn't find me with searches online.

I have no social media and have no criminal record. If you Google my name, you get an actor.

Isn't being able to not find me a good thing?

u/minkymy avatar

There's a lot of different factors on that:

  • some years ago, there was a bit of pop science being passed around the smaller news sites claiming that not having a social media account was a sign of being a sociopath. While the average person may look at that as probably being sensationalist, there are are a handful of folks who would have taken it to heart, and would behave accordingly.

  • some could be suspicious of being given a fake name. As you say in another comment, social media accounts for fake names are certainly put together or faked fairly often, but it does require a lot more commitment to the lie than the average dude trying to have a relationship under a fake name may have, especially if he's giving you a fake name because he has commitment issues and wants to have an affair without either partner knowing. People really go to weird degrees with this double life shit my dude, it's bizarre imo

  • Idk, maybe they're looking for certain types of information for some kind of leverage? Like maybe they're planning to stalk you. Bullet dodged on those, eh?

u/Val_Hallen avatar

I don't care and just move on from them. I understand the need to feel safe, but I also see it as trust issues.

Because of my job and my security clearance, it's just a whole lot less of a hassle to not have an online presence tied to the real me. And in my area, DC, it's not unusual. It seems to be a thing people just moving here seem to be hung up on.

Dudes laugh at women for snooping and tracking people down. This shit is why.

u/founddumbded avatar

I've seen dudes online telling women that watching true crime is making them paranoid. No, men pulling this shit is making them paranoid.

Yep. It can make us feel like we're learning what to watch out for to avoid being the victim. Also because inevitably most of these cases are exacerbated by inaction or mishandling by police. We learn it's up to us to protect ourselves.

I seriously do not know a single adult woman who hasn't been seriously sexually harassed, assaulted, or had a partner or date turn out to be a total creep who stalked or harassed them. We've all gotten the "Hey, beautiful" messages that turn into "Fuck you, ugly ass bitch. Have fun dying alone" when you tell them you're not interested or even don't respond fast enough. We're on high alert because we have to be.

u/founddumbded avatar

It's as if some men don't like it when women become aware of the risks we run by interacting with them, especially in a private context, and they want us to remain ignorant and gullible. There's many issues with true crime (like exploiting people's tragedies for entertainment or personal gain), but teaching women to wise up isn't one of them.

Isn’t it all of our du diligence to do this kind of stuff? Like I get that I can but I don’t and haven’t ever needed too because I tend to not date a ton and when I do I take people at their face value.

That’s spoken as a man with male privilege, I totally understand women and/or other socially repressed populations dealing with much more than I would ever have to deal with, I understand the conditions that some have to deal with… I will never understand, but I hope to at least try and understand and grasp the message that is trying to be conveyed.

We should all worry and protect ourselves, knowledge is power! This person exposing this guy is great, good use of public information!

The bs he wrote in his bio should have been a massive red flag and you should have swiped left without even doing that kind of search. Loving, caring, searching for the right girl….. lies. Writing that he’s handsome…. raging narcissist. Anyone that puts that they’re handsome, hot, beautiful etc., why are you even contemplating linking up? Because it’s expensive and time consuming and the would lose a lot of customers who (rightfully) don’t want to hand over personal info, copies of their ID, or SSN.

Also they don’t want to be liable for other people’s crazy. What if they miss something one someone with a criminal records and something and happens? It’s far easier to make the user assume all the risk.
