ARK Supersonic & Hypersonic Travel - Are you ready? $ALTU, Aerion Supersonic, Boom Supersonic

Remember all-time hockey great Wayne Gretkzy's famous quote?

"Skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been."

This quote is appropriate when thinking about where ARK Invest is focusing its future investment efforts. One area I wanted to highlight is ARK's recent interest in next generation supersonic and hypersonic travel.

Supersonic travel was recently covered by ARK analyst Sam Korus in his interview with Boom Supersonic CEO Blake Scholl. This podcast is definitely worth listening to:

https://ark-invest.com/podcast/fyi-ep66-supersonic-travel/

ARK also highlighted hypersonic travel in their latest 2020 Big Ideas presentation:

https://preview.redd.it/wcmixivx6hi61.png?width=1775&format=png&auto=webp&s=4a13ab8670a42616c10f68cb75af3e8cce2ce063

I speculated that the two top private supersonic aircraft makers, Aerion Supersonic and Boom Supersonic, would likely go public via SPAC on 2/16/21.

https://twitter.com/spacanpanman/status/1361651624377274372?s=20

Interestingly Bloomberg reported that $ALTU was in talks to take Aerion public on 2/17/21:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-02-18/boeing-backed-aerion-is-said-in-talks-for-altitude-spac-listing

It's my speculation that $ALTU / Aerion Supersonic (if the deal gets done) and Boom Supersonic (via whichever SPAC they choose) will get added to ARK's family of ETFs.

Happy hunting and best of luck!

Edit: someone pointed out that they could not find patents for Aerion Supersonic. The company has made it very easy for investors by listing the patents on their website:

https://aerionsupersonic.com/patents/

Disclosure: long 33k commons and 237k warrants

Any of you investing in VG on the basis of them accomplishing point to point supersonic travel in the future should probably reconsider.
r/VirginGalactic

Virgin Galactic is a spaceflight company aspiring to bring suborbital flights to the public beginning in 2023. Founded in 2004 by Richard Branson, Virgin Galactic is a parent company within the Virgin Group. Virgin Galactic is also a publicly traded stock under the ticker symbol $SPCE. This subreddit is unofficial and maintained by enthusiasts.

Any of you investing in VG on the basis of them accomplishing point to point supersonic travel in the future should probably reconsider.

Virgin Galactic has no vehicles currently under development to be able to accomplish this, it is entirely speculative right now, and something they are alluding to once the tourism aspect is up and running.

Given this, the earliest time-frame that VG would likely be able to bring a point to point supersonic vehicle to market is at least 5 years, but more likely 10 years given the history of the pace of their development.

The reasoning for why this is a completely unviable business plan is because of SpaceX's Starship. Elon Musk completely shifted SpaceX's focus from commercial crew to StarShip in just the last few weeks. He also confirmed yesterday on twitter that they are investing heavily in creating ocean based spaceports for point to point travel that would be drastically faster than even supersonic travel. https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1272972228326379520.

So, to any VG bulls out there, how do you expect VG to be able to compete with SpaceX in point to point travel when VG has zero vehicles in development for this purpose, and even the plans that have been espoused will be made obsolete by StarShips vastly superior capabilities?

VG's competitive advantage lies solely in (potentially) being a first mover in the space tourism business. Assuming they launch Richard Branson this year and then begin commercial services in 2021, how long will they maintain this competitive advantage and build off of it? Given SpaceX is throwing all their resources, which are much more significant than VG, into StarShip, it is quite likely that StarShip will be fully operational in 4 years. Elon says 2-3 but he is always a bit late. So, how can VG build off of their first mover advantage in that time frame when it takes years to just get 1 or 2 operational vehicles, compared to StarShips planned production rate of 2 per WEEK.

This post is a bit scattered, but I think anyone here who is invested in VG needs to take a hard look into SpaceX's StarShip program and ask yourself if once that vehicle is brought to market, if VG will have any market to serve. Why would you or anyone spend 250k for 11 minutes in weightlessness when that same price with StarShip would probably take you into orbit for hours? I just fail to see how VG is going to be remotely competitive, but am interested in hearing if you guys disagree.

On this day 16 years ago, G-BOAG, G-BOAF and G-BOAE set off on the final commercial flights of Concorde. Afterwards, the entire fleet would be grounded indefinitely, thereby ending the era of supersonic travel after 27 years. Concorde would never carry another fare paying passenger ever again.

Somebody posted an image of the Concorde fleet on r/Pics that sent me down a rabbit hole. Apparently supersonic travel is coming back, but this time without the sonic boom.

TIL that on this day, October 24, in 2003, Concorde (“The Rocket”) completed its last commercial passenger flight, ending three decades of supersonic travel, landing at Heathrow airport at 1605 BST, after departing New York 3½ hours earlier.

Boom ready to roll out its first jet en route to carbon neutral supersonic travel. The XB-1 will demonstrate key technologies designed for what could be the first commercial supersonic jet since the Concorde.

What are some problems in the aviation industry currently being solved?

Posting this here since apparently I haven't been active enough in r/aviation to be able to post. In my public speaking class, we have to do a problem/solution presentation. My original plan was to focus on eFuels and how they are promising for the auto industry, but I figured it's going to be hard to not look like an oil company executive while giving the talk and it will be hard to find a good basis for it. My main hobby is aviation anyway, so why not go for that? Somehow after a while of researching I can't find anything that would make a great presentation. Of course, we have supersonic travel and the sonic boom volume issue that the X-59 is working to solve, but of course today the professor just brought out an old student's presentation that covered the exact topic, so I can't really do that now. I am also considering the fact that lead is still used in avgas, but I have not done any deep searching on that. Is 100LL relatively harmful or would discussing that be difficult to find a solution for? Anyone know any other issues facing the aviation industry that someone is actively working on a solution for?

SPCE will be up significantly in 3 years, so don't sell

I am not a financial advisor, but I do have retarded opinions.

I keep hearing if people should sell or hold. SPCE is a new and unique industry, which is space tourism and supersonic travel, but mostly space tourism. So it's hard to value it and determine when to sell or hold. I guarantee you that SPCE will have violent swings, but in 3 - 5 years, SPCE will be significantly up. Purchase a core position and if you want to trade the swing, purchase call or put options or stocks and trade the swings.

SPCE will rip when they announce a new flight date, SPCE will rip again after a successful test flight, rip again when they receive FAA approval, rip again when R Branson gets green light, rip again when they start flying tourist. When all the above occurs SPCE will be over $250

I'll add that after SPCE is flying tourist into space, it will introduce supersonic travel. This is a complete game changer and disruption to the airline business. SPCE will be $1,000 stock very soon

Will Virgin Galactic do point to point travel?

I think VG was in talks with NASA for developing a supersonic plane about a year ago and I think this would be a great addition to the fleet from a practical perspective with many opportunities for government and civilian use. There aren't many public companies pursuing supersonic travel that I know of, so it would also be a niche market too. Do you think spaceship two could be repurposed for point to point travel or will it have to be a new plane from the ground up?

Amazon deceitfully rejected this sincere review for "inappropriate content" 10 days after I submitted it

Patently evil

Demeaning J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved and timeless oeuvre by turning it into a tawdry corporate platform for the inane scribblings of adolescent minds and the invective of contemporary identity politics is the epitome of the self-serving, hateful, and soulless behavior that Tolkien himself decried as "orc-work."

The disparate plots are at best contrivances driven by haphazard decisions by the writing staff, full of coincidence, illogic, and no sense of geographical scale. At no point is any of the story driven by believable characterization. Each and every one of Tolkien's pre-existing characters that has been included in the show has been subjected to butchery that can only be described as malicious, and the new characters invented for the show have nothing to recommend about them to make the time wasted in their company anything more than a burden.

The creative team for this show doesn't seem to understand that "fantasy" as a genre does not mean "anything goes," with a willing suspension of disbelief made impossible by, for example, three major characters randomly meeting in the middle of the ocean and then later surviving a pyroclastic flow unscathed while buildings and extras around them are turned into cinders--at a location thousands of miles away that they apparently reached via supersonic travel.

One wonders why so much money was paid for the rights to use the name "Lord of the Rings" when nothing in the show bears any resemblance to Tolkien's work in terms of characters, setting, and, most importantly, themes. The creative team and marketing department have put more time and effort into berating and insulting would-be viewers through strawman proxies than they have into making any of this a story worth telling or hearing.

At one point, the writers have a character wonder why the orcs use an Elvish word ("Adar") for their leader, apparently ignorant that Sauron itself is an Elvish word meaning "the Abhorred." Fitting, because the creative team's abhorrent and hubristic language and behavior in various promotional interviews for this stillborn series makes it impossible to give them any benefit of the doubt that they will rectify even one of its multitude of failings in the second season.

In short, The Rings of Power is not only not a success, it is not even a near-miss; it is an unmitigated trainwreck from start to finish, primarily the result of the bottom-basement writing and direction, but also to a lesser extent due to production design and cast performances more suited to local dinner theater than the ballyhooed production this series pretends to be.

If they want to save this investment, the higher-ups must cut all ties with the everyone on the current creative team--not just the showrunners themselves--apologize for their divisive remarks apparently intended to drive fans away from the show, and start afresh with the first season relegated to apocrypha.

I give it a rating of 1 only because 0 is not an option.

Is it just me or...

...are things going a bit strange with how the information is coming out?

Let me explain a bit, firstly we had TTSA leaking the 3 videos and the ensuing furore. Then we are being told to expect a report beginning of June.

But now we are seeing photos taken from the cockpit of fighter jets, videos taken from the deck of battleships etc with the associated stories bit all coming out via different sources.

The newer information is also a lot less above and beyond what we've seen. The Nimitz incident had supersonic travel and an object unlike anything we've seen. The new info is drones flying at 50mph for 90 minutes.

I'm a huge believer in UFOs ever since I was a child but I have a horrible feeling that we are being set up to have the rug pulled from under us once they reveal what these new sightings are.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel the same?
