Acer Swift X

To the people who have received the Acer Swift X, what are your opinions on it? There aren't many reviews on it and I'm trying to make an informed purchase.

I've been using the Acer Swift X for a few days so far and I am loving it. I haven't seen anyone else post about their experience with it so I decided to. Ask any questions about it you want.

Specs:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800U

NVIDIA RTX 3050 Ti Laptop w/ 4GB VRAM (35W TGP version)

16 GB LPDDR4X @ 4266 MHz

512 GB Hynix HFM512GD3JX016N NVMe SSD (with additional NVMe slot available for later upgrade)

14" 1920x1080 IPS matte display

59 watt-hour battery

Bought new on Amazon for $1,069.99 USD

Initial impressions: The keyboard and trackpad are good in my opinion and battery life has been excellent. I love the fingerprint reader, it has an almost instantaneous response time. Graphical performance in games has also been top notch for me. Only issues I've had so far are the so-so cooling performance due to the single fan, and the fact that when the fan ramps up it has a high-pitched sound to it. Not sure if that's normal for the laptop or I got unlucky. Also the speakers aren't great but that's what you get with downward facing, not a huge deal for me, I use bluetooth headphones and the sound quality there is great.

I keep seeing that for laptops around or under $1000, people recommend either the Acer Swift X or Lenovo Legion 5. I want to know how these to stack up. As a High school senior going into college, who wants to do game development and graphic design, I want a laptop that can handle games like DMC 5, is not to noisy in fan volume, and can handle multiple things being run at once.

I have posted here before regarding laptop searching (found here: ) but I want to know more details in regards to these two laptops and how they compare with each other (battery life, performance, etc.)

Looking at an Acer Swift X with the below main specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7 1260P / RAM: 16 GB LPDDR5 / HDD: 512 GB SSD / GPU: Geforce RTX 3050 Ti 4GB GDDR6 / Display: 14" IPS, 2240x1400, (2,2K) (300 cd/m²)

Price: $1400/€1360

My main concerns/questions:

1. Is the 300 cd/m² a bit too low for reasonably bright (daylight) conditions?

2. Seems the model has had challenges with a lot of fan noise in the past. What's your experience? Has it been addressed by Acer for this model?

3. How's the battery life?

4. Decent gaming performance for non-AAA titles that are now 2-4 years old?

I'm going to buy a new laptop for university and am currently divided between the and the .

First of all there is price, I can get the Ideapad 5 Pro for €1299,- (student discount) and the Swift X is supposedly going to starting at around a €1000,-. That brings me to my next point, the Ideapad 5 Pro is availlable right now and the Swift X I can't order yet here in the Netherlands. And lastly there is build quality, I read some discomforting reviews here on Reddit about the build quality of the Ideapad 5 Pro being subpar.

I would really like to hear some of you guys' thoughts on these points and more. Also would like to know alternatives if you have any (drawing the line for my spending limit at €1299,-), cheers.

I'm planning on getting one of these two laptops for upcoming senior year of high school + college, and both are intriguing to me since they are ultrabooks that fit right in my budget. I'm looking to do schoolwork (browsing, note-taking etc.) and some moderate gaming, mostly AAA single-player games and some Warzone.

Acer Swift X: $1,069 on Amazon, r7 5800u & 3050ti 40W

Zephyrus G14 (2020): $1,218 on Best Buy, r9 4900HS & 2060 Max-Q

Any advice? I've heard that the QC on the 2020 G14 has been less than optimal in the past with bad coil whine as well as some ghosting issues with the screen, which are the main things holding me back. Or am I just overthinking it as the G14 is certainly the superior-performing laptop?
