So I was going to post a different thread about how I really appreciate what korean artists are doing to support others in the industry who are struggling because of Covid. There's going to be a free online concert on tiktok on Sept 25th, where users can participate in duets, and each participant who submits a duet (from now until the 25th) can earn a $3 donation (up to a $42k total donation) that tiktok will contribute to the Korea Artists Welfare Foundation, which is an organization that handles things like unemployment benefits for korean artists who are currently out of work.
MCND, AB6IX, TOO, WayV, UP10TION’s Kim Woo Seok, TVXQ, Lovelyz, and ELRIS are the different kpop soloists/groups who are participating in this charity concert. . I thought it was really sweet for them to help raise money for other korean artists affected by Covid.
But then today some news popped up- that tiktok is going to get banned in the US. The tiktok app will no longer be available for download (will be removed from app stores) to Americans on Sunday, which is 2 days away. If agreements cannot be made by November 12th, then Tiktok will receive a shutdown order by the US government. Trump's administration will also be banning WeChat, although I don't think WeChat has as much impact on the kpop industry in the US as Tiktok.
If you already have tiktok, you will still be able to view the free concert since that is scheduled for Sept 25th, before the tiktok ban on Nov 12th, so no worries there.
I don't go on tiktok much but from what I guess, it seems like tiktok can be pretty vital for some kpop groups who rely on viral moments to drive viewership to their MVs. This may or may not have an impact on different kpop groups (depending on how big their US fanbase is, and if they even use Tiktok), but it may especially impact the kpop groups who depend on US tiktok activity to boost their social media presence.
Do you think the impending tiktok ban will affect your favorite kpop groups? Do you think the kpop groups you follow will take a social media hit? Which platforms do you think American tiktok users will move to when tiktok is no longer functional for those in the US? Thoughts on the tiktok ban and its possible effect on kpop and social media presence?

Let me start by saying this concert has been the best kpop concert I've been to in years.
So I'm a casual abnew, listen to there music all the time and generally make sure to check out thier comebacks. I like all the members but know and find them very enjoyable people but know them mostly cause daehwi is besties with my ult group.
So I went to the Future is Ours Los Angeles stop last night and it was AMAZING.
First off.. I did not know they were THAT good live. Thier mics were ON!!! These men can sing live. Especially with songs with intense choreography they did soooo well with live vocals. Me and my friends were taken aback at how good they were. Like I knew they could sing but really it's on another level when it's a live stage. I was especially impressed by daehwi and woong. Absolutely insane powerhouses and you would never know just by listening to thier songs.
I think another aspect that made the concert so good we that they were very charming and knew how to keep the crowd engaged. I do find in points where the translator has to step in, American audiance can loose focus but they made lots of short jokes and you could tell that they found a refined way of doing ment segments without making the crowd ancy. Woojin was especially good at this. When he shushed us we were quiet 😭🤣 and when he told us to back up we did it. 😭🤣 I found him very funny during the concert and think his jokes landed really well.
Other small things i liked:
For a casual fan I think the set list was perfect mix of all the b-sides I liked and title tracks!
The venue was one of the smallest venues I've ever been in for a kpop concert but I think it added to the intemency of the concert. You could see and hear everything no matter where you stood.
Everyone was really respectful!!! Not to loud and not to much screaming when the members were talking (maybe that's thanks to woojin being like BE QUIET) LMAO but we definitely screamed so much so that he gave us a vocal lesson on how to do it lol
At the encore song they somehow found a way to make thier euncore song work for such a small crowd. They have a song 123, (it's like thier svt ayu nice or Astros call out where it just goes on) and I think they found a genuis way to keep that feeling going with a small crowd when it's clearly ment for a bigger audience.
This is a small thing but it started EXACTLY on time. It siad it starts at 7 AND IT DID. For an old person like me I LOVED THAT.
Anyways I feel like more people should listen to ab6ix now cause that crowd was wayyyyy to small for that talent
