Which game has the worst open-world with boring side quests?

I don't often play Open world games and am not really a fan of them because I know that there will be unnecessary walking between locations, and I hate that a lot. Also, most games simply make you do the same things in the side missions and become boring quickly.

But Assassin's Creed 1 is the game I literally hated every minute of it. The open world was just boring with nothing interesting, and the side quests were all the same thing over and over... The second game is a much better game, but still, it was repetitive also and side missions were boring.

So glad ZZZ is not open world

If it were another open world game I probably would hold off on playing it. Don't get me wrong I enjoy open world game but I've had my fill with Genshin and Breath of the Wild. Playing those games just takes up so much time I dont have anymore, especially for the exploring part.

Is a nice change of pace playing ZZZ where the incredible combat is the focus, and I can just do what is told. How are your guys experience so far?

Off tangent, but one thing I find tiring when starting a new game is familiarizing myself with the new terms and names.

Elden Ring isn't a real open world game

I'm somewhat of an open world expert. I've played all the Assassin Creed's (except 1 and 2) and Far Cry 6 so I know a lot about open world games and Elden Ring just doesn't qualify! I'm most of the way through the game and I haven't repeated a copy and pasted fetch quest 30 times. The side quests haven't asked me to slowly walk behind NPCs talking for 20 minutes. And worst of all there's these big towers but that's not where you unlock sections of the map! Clearly this is just a fake open world game for fake open world gamers...

What is an open world that truly fulfills the open world fantasy, and why?

There are a LOT of open world games out there. It's become something of a standard for many single player action-adventure games that there has to be an explorable area. Certainly linearity is still a big part of the industry overall (see The Last of Us and Resident Evil), but "open world everything" has become something of a trend. Open world Dark Souls, open world Zelda. FUCK it, open world Pokemon.

The appeal of open worlds comes from the fantasy associated with it. Remember walking out of vault 101 in Fallout 3, your eyes adjusting to the piss-green sunlight as your Allegory of the Cave comes to a close? Seeing a million landmarks. Massive, towering, destroyed highways. Thinking to yourself, "I'm about to go on a grand adventure". And because this was Bethesda before Skyrim got a million ports, the game delivered that adventure on every single front. You could truly go anywhere and do anything. Were the systems trench deep like FO1 and 2? No. But god, was it fun.

Red Dead 2 had no "Bethesda walk-out" moment like that, but the exhilaration of being in a beautiful, massive, immersive world is still there. The game contains five whole states worth of land to discover, each one with hundreds of different encounters, activities, resources, game, and unique interactions. Environments are distinct and even if you've done all there is to do in a given area, well no you haven't. The game interacts with the player in real time and you're going to miss some form of content every single playthrough simply because of where you are and what you're doing at a given time. This example has been done to death, but there's a logging company taking down an entire meadow over the course of a couple dozen hours and if you take the time to watch, you can watch the entire meadow get logged from beginning to end in real time. This happens no matter where you are, too. That's just one of the many examples out there that make the Old West feel truly alive in every aspect.

So... What is your most folding open world? What game satisfies your fantasy the greatest?
