60-year-old Yew hedge has THREE ARBORISTS disagreeing (details in comment)

Excessive water flooding the area + obvious die back is usually pretty telling. You can probably take some cuttings from the parts that haven't died back yet and get them to sprout roots to propagate a new hedge or fill in dead spots at least.

What do I do with 7 red bell peppers?

This is the time where you start considering the purchase of a vacuum sealer for freezing excess foods. Start dry brining your meats with salt + whatever seasonings and vacuum seal + freeze them. Between your frozen veggies and meats you can basically cook good meals easily as all veggies and meats actually turn out better from frozen then if you freeze then thaw before cooking.

Sounds like they got you hook, lined, and sinker'd. You could at least listen to the guy talk and hear his view points.

I don't know man. I'd look into Kneesovertoesguy if I was you. He's pretty knowledgeable on knee surgeries and his results are pretty sturdy. A doctor's job is not to tell you the alternate options though, they will paint it as you are in an unhealable state which is cap.

Time to learn a new skill. I suggest home cooking. Specifically a 24 hour dry brined steak so you can be proud of yourself and eat good.

This hurricane season sure is looking fun, its not every year you see this much activity.

Shoot just this year on Friday over on Kauai I was talking to my friend from Texas and he was like "we can't do anything outside right now though right? Because we're gonna get hit by bad weather?". I looked at him, blinked a few times, and shook my head. Media is so good at instilling fear in people.

Is my melon ripe? Follow up from a previous post...

Feisty_Yes
replied to _Mulberry__

In general I've found waiting about 10-14 days after the tendril dries up is the peak point of harvesting at least with the varieties I've grown and they do vary. I don't think you should worry too much about the field spot, in my research it pointed out that the yellow spot is not always there and can be pale. My advice would be to note the date the tendril dries and then harvest 10 days from then and note the results, adjust to waiting more or less time based on the results.

No it's not ripe. The tendril curly q is still green. The sun spot is because it's a big melon that grows longer so it's getting a sun tan, market growers cover their big melons with blankets or towels to prevent that just because it's not as visually appealing but won't affect the fruit.

Help with Abiu Tree - it is 4-5 years old and still so small

Ah you must be on the Big Island. In that case I recommend a hand held battery powered power hammer with a cold chisel attachment for your digging, the shovel can then act as a material mover rather than a chisel.

Actually there's a better way if you are smart enough to understand the concept of not letting the tree settle and sink it's trunk into the soil. That way would be to dig the hole deeper and use a few rocks to prop up the tree to the correct height. Tree roots make secondary thin feeder roots that are capable of penetrating rocks to harvest the minerals, this helps prevent mineral deficiency's.

So how's your watermelons doing?

Feisty_Yes
replied to yeahdixon

You should be ok. They love how hot it is right now so if you water them well they will grow fast. Well actually it depends how deep you prepped your soil too, deep roots help grow watermelons faster.

Because it was harvested just a bit early probably. You'll get the same lack of color form red watermelons if you harvest a bit too early.

So how's your watermelons doing?

I made a mistake harvesting 2 under ripe so far and got a good amount wiped out by pickle worms but they seem to not be around as much anymore. Now I've got a ton starting to grow and more female flowers to pollinate every morning. Thank goodness watermelon season might finally be coming for me, hope you guys are having some luck as well.

My bell peppers came out perfect except they're at 1/3 scale for some reason

To add to your point. I planted watermelons in 2 different locations on my property this year. In one location I just used the same spot as last year and dug out maybe 1ft.x1ft. of a hole and added in compost and fertilizer, this area is growing me smaller watermelons than last year. The other area got dug and tilled probably about 2.5'ft. deep and mixed with compost and slow release fertilizers, this area is producing way more fruits per vine way faster and growing them bigger. I'd attribute this to the vines having easy access to grow a deep robust root system quickly. So it's not always in pots vs in ground, sometimes it matters how compact either ones soil mixture might be.

What ate my sugar baby overnight? A Rat? These are 5ft off the ground on a fence.

I didn't get the cats. They just live feral on the Island I live on and the valley next to me houses them so they hunt on my property, haven't seen rats in a long time. We're already trained to wash our produce really good around here to prevent rat lungworm disease from slugs so if the cats are peeing on my watermelons right now I haven't smelt it and I wash them good anyway. Way better problem to have than rats.
