Lots of respect to Brunson and the season he had. Don't want to downplay him at all when I say the best player on the best team most definitely should be All-NBA first team.

Also great to see JB get some votes.

WNBA vs NBA

Apologies if this has been posted before, but this piece on comparing the WNBA to the NBA, at the same time in the NBA’s life cycle, was pretty interesting. https://globalsportmatters.com/business/2023/06/16/wnba-future-seen-nba-past/

In short, expansion of the WNBA is pretty important to growing revenues and the economic opportunities for the players. Hope the W makes the leap.

NBA playoff predictions first round

Apologies if a better thread was posted in this community that initiated more predictions in the thread. I did not see one. I have:

Bucks over Indy in 7 Cleveland over magic in 7 Clippers over mavs in 7 Suns over twolves in 6 Phily over knicks in 6 Denver over Lakers in 5

If Kings beat Pels for the final spot in the west, I’ll say OKC in 7. If somehow NO makes it the it’s OKC in 5.

In the East, I’ll say Celtics over Heat in 6, and if it is the Bulls the Celtics win in 5

So betting for active NBA players gets you permanently banned, but domestic abuse/assault only nets you a suspension?

The following players have been suspended, but were still able to play after serving their respective bans/suspensions related to domestic abuse/physical assault:

  1. Miles Bridges

  2. Jaxson Hayes

  3. Darren Collison

  4. Ron Artest

  5. Jason Kidd

  6. Matt Barnes

All these players were at one point arrested officially by the law, but were able to play again in the NBA after serving their suspensions

As far as I know, it's only Kevin Porter jr who was not able to play after his physical assault case came into light, and was subsequently waived by the Rockets when his arrest was issued. If you know of other examples, please share them.

Forgive me for the language, but it's kind of fucked up how the NBA treats substance abuse and sports betting among its players more serious than literal cases of physical assault/domestic abuse.

Edit: what I’m understanding from a lot of comments is that betting is bad because it deals with the integrity of the sport directly: the league will lose money when the people think it’s a rigged league. So if you’re betting on your matches or matches in your league, it’s best to have an interpreter so he can take the blame for you when you get caught (note: only works if you are a superstar that brings a lot of money/views to the league you play in🤷🏾‍♂️)

Regular Season MVPs + NBA Champions Correlation

In the History of the NBA only 4 teams have won the Finals without having a MVP on their team. The Detroit Pistons in 89, 90, and 04 EDIT and the 2019 Raptors. Every other team has had a regular season MVP on their team. (What's special about Detroit in those years? Right timing I guess).

Due to this statistical point, that would mean one of the following teams in this years playoffs will win the Finals. (MVPs on their roster is noted)

Denver - Jokic
Lakers - LeBron
Sixers - Embiid
Clippers - Harden + Westbrook
Suns - KD
Bucks - Giannis

This list does NOT include the Boston Celtics, as they currently do not have a regular season MVP on their roster. But the Celtics have a lot of other stats going their way.

Do you think that the Celtics can overcome this MVP correlation and win the Finals this year? Or does this statistical correlation win out yet again?

Top 10 centers in the NBA right now IMHO

Some notes: Jaren Jackson Jr. played center at the end of the season, but I still consider him a power forward, similarly, KAT has been playing power forward all season, but I still consider him a center. I'm not trying to argue about what a center is, that's not what this list is for. Assume everyone is healthy.

10. Chet Holmgren

9. Alperen Sengun

8. Rudy Gobert

7. Karl-Anthony Towns

6. Victor Wembanyama

5. Bam Adebayo

4. Domantas Sabonis

3. Anthony Davis

2. Joel Embiid

  1. Nikola Jokic

Top 100 Dunks of 2023-24 Regular Season! #BESTofNBA (youtube.com)

Just finished watching the Top 100 NBA dunks, and a few thoughts,

  1. No Maverick was posterized according to this video. I thought there would be one or two, but I'll take zero! (Gafford actually shows up at 52 getting dunked on, but in a Wizard uniform, so it doesn't count lol)

  2. DLive appears twice, once at 96 (his thrunk against the Warriors) and at 88 (his double clutch over Chet).

  3. OMax at 64! His dunk over James Wiseman was awesome, and I'm glad it showed up.

  4. Flight 55 at #55! His thrunk over Nurkic could have been an and-one, but either way, that was a nasty attack and throwdown.

The video the NBA does usually emphasizes poster and cool/trick dunks over other types, (like Kyrie catching a few lobs this season, none of which show up) but either way, I think this year was an awesome year for Mavs fans for actually having legit centers, and wings that attack closeouts, for dunks.

Now onto the playoffs, Mavs in 5!

Quick shoutout to The Landlord showing up at 57, but in a Washington uniform. (Rishaun Holmes also shows up at 39 going over Walker Kessler while he was still a Mav, and it was the highest on the list by a Maverick)
