I love it when all of Arsenal play brilliantly.

[–]tipytopmain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Watched the 1st half earlier before work and just watched the 2nd half now. man, that 2nd half performance was the best arsenal I've seen all season. even though we didn't score in the 2nd half we were all over them and they had absolutely nothing to answer it.

Every player looked up for it from the GK to the front 3. mustafi my MoTM. was shutting shit down that was in his vicinity. kos and monreal too were on their job.

midfield was clinical. shout out to ramsey for being a proper midfielder today and bossing it defensively as well as helping carry the ball. xhaka had less touches he usually would which says more about the team play/tactics than it does about him. the team learnt the best way to play is not to rely on 1 player as your sole distributor and not burden them when they're in tight spaces, xhaka did well whenever he was on the ball and off covering spaces.

wingbacks had energy, bellerin in particular had some great moments going forward and was always there to support going back.

front 3 were fluid and inventive. exactly what we expect and need from 3 top draw individuals. wenger needs to start all 3 of them whenever he can. unfortunately that might mean we won't see jack in the PL starting role if AOL carry on with performances like that.

[–]Apocsky_Egyptian Ramsey, Willock, Nketiah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man my favourite part of a good win is the memes. And the superimposed videos that are recycled over and over lol

[–]ThatGuyOverThere08Saka 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Mustafi was fucking out of this world. Amazing last ditch tackles!

[–]erts 26 points27 points  (4 children)

Mustafi has won me over with both this and the Chelsea performance

[–]illusiveabESR 5 goals 12 assists 2021-2022 14 points15 points  (3 children)

We paid 37 for him and I think it's only right that he plays at this level. He's a player with immense potential, and in his youth, could become a regular in this team for a long time. That's why the rumors of him transferring away were really disappointing. I want to see him, Holding, Chambers, Bellerin, and Kolasinac take the reigns and put up a fortress in our XI that wins us silverware.

[–]erts 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Chambers and Holding? They have so much to prove still. Definitely not looking forward to having to rely on them

[–]illusiveabESR 5 goals 12 assists 2021-2022 3 points4 points  (1 child)

surprisingly, you don't remember that koscielny had significant growing pains as well.

[–]Dogg92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So did senderos

[–]KikkoAndMoonmanBoohoo Cesc, RvP and Nasri are snakes *yawn* 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Fantastic performance all-round and I'm so delighted...but we need to be a lot more clinical in our counter-attacks. This is a concern for us and an element that's really holding us back (in games when our defence is solid).

[–]cptsteve21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kevin friend the real MVP.

[–]Kreator333 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Brilliant performance by the lads everybody played very well and Ozil deserved his man of match. If we played like this against Burnley and stayed solid at the back it would be 5-0. We totally dominated all over the park and actually looked physically strong why can't we do that most games not one in ever 3 or so.

[–]TheDrunkenTurtle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We've got Ozil, Mesut Ozil

[–]ChiveBomb 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Wished we saw Jacky in the closing minutes especially since Xhaka was on a yellow

[–]Laui_2000Jenkinson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder, where would he fit into the team, and whose role he would fill? His playstyle is not the same as Xhaka's or Ramsey's.

[–]Arsekicker49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indescribably satisfying three points this afternoon. Nothing else would have done; we absolutely needed this today.

[–]deerrr 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Anyone know where I can watch the full match?

[–]nagaffets 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have to say, I did not expect Arsenal to win today. Good job guys! I was also annoyed at Mike Dean being the ref in the game today (as he’s a blatant Spurs fan) but it didn’t seem to affect the result!

[–]symple19 17 points18 points  (5 children)

Wonderful, top to bottom. Arsene got it right, the players all showed up, and the supporters kept the Emirates lit. Proud to be a Gooner today.

Let's keep doing it, week in, week out. COYG!

[–]Laui_2000Jenkinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this performance showed that we can put up with our rivals (with a little sprinkling of luck). The only problem is consistency, and possibly having squad members who can effectively fill in for the starting 11 if they happen to get injured or are rested.

[–]Baggo-nuts-4-sale 9 points10 points  (3 children)

About time the had a match like that.

Best game I have seen them play this year.

I even woke up at 0430 to watch it. (In bed with a cup of coffee,)

[–]calmpassionate 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Same here, and I was prepared for losing sleep over a disappointment. What a pleasant surprise! And we got to see the elusive Sanchez Ozil Lacazette trio again =)

[–]Baggo-nuts-4-sale 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Ozil is a work horse isn't he? Loved that Sanchez slide, he dove like he was going swimming.

[–]calmpassionate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ozil is a DECEPTIVE work horse. I noticed one specific fast break where instead of opting for quick penetrative dribbling, he hesitated waiting for the passing lane to develop. I think its moments like that where he gets the flack from, because he definitely works hard to get into passing lanes and block them in defense

[–]cptsteve21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Best team performance I’ve seen. Koscielny and mustafi were great.

[–]redshrekRay Parlour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I called this win. Not surprised and so happy for the team. The Spuds will always be in our shadow.

[–]allogenics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]bigslimvdubIf you want, you can overcome all 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]pyroaxisBergkamp 16 points17 points  (1 child)

[–]chazzledazzle10 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Does anyone have a gif of the turn by Alexis on the end line near the left corner? Happened late on in the match, would love to see it again. Berbatov-esque

[–]_jollyroger19Jesus Take The Wheel 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]12duffjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Injustice52Film Flam Tottenham 7 points8 points  (14 children)

I think a lot of us Americans miss the game because it was so early

[–]ChiveBomb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]wafino1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Am American, I woke up at 4:30 like the fervent supporter I am!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Yeah it sucks they play these types of matches early but it is for safety reasons. For those of us in the states (west coast anyway) the matches are at 4am. But these types of matches are intense for the fans and having them earlier means less chaos for the police and stadium staff.

[–]wafino1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't know that, but totally understandable. Don't really want to see yer da lads out and about.

[–]savasfreeman 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think it's to do with the schedule dude, nothing about policing and staff.. These side of things are a piece of cake nowadays.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah it's a bit of both. They can't show it at 3 because it won't be on TV but they can't show it at 5 because it's too late

[–]do_u_even_gif_bro 20 points21 points  (4 children)

This was a comprehensive win. Everyone looked up for it. Ozil made a few good defensive plays, he really got stuck in.

Watched it here in America on NBC and the commentators were hot garbage.

[–]ChiveBomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]memoryfailure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]cottagecheeseboyhappy birthday santi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]Bolteg 12 points13 points  (2 children)

This game was very enjoyable to watch, the defense actually was great, Kos and Mustafi both deserved to be the MOTM. The boys in attack were creating a lot of chances, it could be more than 2:0.

Congratulations to all of you, guys!

[–]wilnyb 9 points10 points  (1 child)

How fucking good were Musti and Kos!? Very surprised by seeing Mustafi so physically dominant and determined today, none of his usual shaky decision making. That back three with Monreal is starting to look really good if they can keep this going.

[–]ToeTacTic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems to thrive around a passionate atmosphere?

[–]TheArsenal04 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Best I've seen Mesut play forever outside of a Germany shirt.

Mustafi, besides being a complete MOTM beast, now joins Flamini in the most unlikely of Arsenal NLD goal scoring heroes.

[–]thebiggestfan90 38 points39 points  (5 children)

Was in North London watching at the pub. Loving the result but have to say, there was a group of lads there who did nothing but fucking WHINE for the whole game, even though we were deep dicking them the whole time. I get the hate but seriously - moaning, groaning and berating the players and manager every time we go forward and don’t score?! Have you ever played a game of football? It’s pathetic, support your fucking team you absolute cretins. COYG.

[–]dj2006 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–]thebiggestfan90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Was in The Gunners! Me and a mate decided to go there as every time we’ve been to the Pins, Faltering Fullback or the Tollington we have lost, not that I’m superstitious or anything... Love the atmosphere in Gooner country after these games tho, nowhere better! Fucking buzzing!

[–]AllanDT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

[–]Nutrig 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Just being that way is punishment enough for those guys. Shame they ruin it for everybody else though.

[–]thebiggestfan90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Precisely. I pity them, they wait two weeks for a game, their beloved team beat their biggest rivals (and supposed title contenders 😂😂) 2-0 with a convincing performance and they deny themselves the enjoyment of it. Makes no sense to me.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was very pessimistic before this game, what a pleasant surprise to win it so comfortably.

[–]ruru5678 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the keys were shutting down Erikson and Kane. Back three today were in total control. They also didn't make pressing Ozil a priority, which other teams have done, and they payed for it. Best thing today though was how direct we were. Xhaka saw much less of the ball than usual, and therefore didn't give the ball up in the middle of the pitch, and prevented the usual counters that have led to goals so many times this year. COYG!

[–]Hunter_14 15 points16 points  (6 children)

What a great win! Only soured by the fact the commentators had a hard on for Spurs the whole game. I love how one of them tried to the say the second one was offside but then goes 'his arms his offside but that doesn't count. Also, apparently if your name is Harry Kane, you can slide into someone's legs from behind and have it deemed 'not the worst tackle in the world' and the receiving player overplayed it. Ironic how that player was Xhaka and he would have been sent off just for looking at Kane the wrong way.

[–]gunner3230 7 points8 points  (5 children)

[–]Hunter_14 0 points1 point  (2 children)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]do_u_even_gif_bro 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yeah. The commentators were insanely biased.

[–]gunner3230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the worst channel to watch Arsenal play and I have seen many similar posts here about NBC. Not sure how knowledgeable they are and they only seem to have one agenda, whatever the occasion and outcome. I made it a point to avoid NBC as much as possible.

[–]misterjenkins1 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Loved how Ozil, alexis and Laca pressed their CBs, and Ramsey picking up Dembele. i Cheered every long ball they played out the back.

[–]passa117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were clueless as to how to get at us. Mustafi and Koscielny ate those lofted balls up all game long.

[–]UWFdude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arm isn't offside has to be a legal part of your body

[–]ENWODYa Gunnarsss Ya! 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Has to be a bit of the body that you can play the ball with mate.

    [–]islander1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Both non offside calls were tough. If Tottenham score Mustafi's goal, I can't be mad at the linesman for missing a half body in a crooked line of 14 players.

Alexis, his feet and head were onside.

    [–]catlike1Saka 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Great performance. If we play every game from here on out with this intensity (and lineup), we can probably, with a bit of luck, take 2nd. Man City are out of reach, but there really isn't a lot separating the next 5 clubs in terms of points or quality of squad. Each one has strengths and weaknesses. Man U will likely get a bump with Pogba and Ibra returning, but they, too, have weaknesses, which have become more apparent against tougher teams. At this point I'd be very happy with a 2nd place finish, regaining CL, and positioning the team decently to cope with whatever happens with Ozil and Alexis. If we don't regain CL we'll have trouble attracting top talent.

    [–]reiko96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not say that City are out of reach. It it takes is a couple losses or draws for them to fall back in with the chasing pack

    [–]galeejThierry Henry 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Never write off a season. I know it looks realistically out... But as long as it is probabilistically in reach... We should not say we've lost :-)

    [–]UWFdude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great game from our key players. Glad the Coq >>> Laca sub didn't bite us. That was very confusing.

We finally get a call our way (very marginal) and it's all the announcers can talk about whenever they aren't asking why we aren't like this every match.

Mustafi played for Everton before though, it's not like he's new to the country.

      Good point.

I suppose he's fluent, but only with a basic level of language. He struggles over some words and phrases when he gets posed questions, and the interviewer usually has to define one or two words for him.

I am absolutely buzzing. That was a performance to be proud of. So happy for the club and all the players, massive win from a massive game!

Great organisation and tactical plan by Wenger. Forced Spurs to go wide because the centre was locked up, thus preventing Spurs attack from making their runs via the channels. Great pressing in the first half which overwhelmed their defenders, they were unable to build up any momentum. The plan was to grab the first goal, and we ended the first half with two. Could have been more.

The plan for the second half was obvious, sit back, be compact, spring on the break. Spurs have difficulty breaking obdurate opponents down.

Lacazatte's substitution was booed by some, but Coquelin was the perfect player to bring on. Xhaka was neutered by his yellow card, and the slippery pitch meant that he couldn't commit aggressively.

Brilliant perfomance by the players, everyone was on point today. They trusted their compatriots, and it showed.

tl;dr - All those who kept spewing guff about the so-called "gulf between the teams" can go get fucked. Bloody twats.

Edit: I like how Souness is basically an Arsenal fan. His frustrations when they don't play well, and his happiness when they do warms my heart. And really surprising, and refreshing, to hear Jamie Redknapp point out that despite all the media hype over Spurs, Arsenal are the ones who have actually won something since.

I never got the Souness hate. He's not the best at analyzing tactics but he's always fair in his criticism.

The guy doing the post match interviews is so cringey my god.

From the /r/soccer match updates. 14' Some pressure by Tottenham, but nothing comes of it.

I'm so happy - that is all!

Why are people thanking Mike Dean? Some of his calls against us were completely wrong as well. Mustafi should've never got a yellow for that

      [–]Eyneedle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but that call on Musti was clearly him trying to balance the scales.

Also, we've had so many of these calls go against us this season that it was nice to see them go in our favour instead.
