Nathan always becomes what he sets out to destroy [SEASON FINALE SPOILERS] by thecorndogmaker in nathanforyou

To me the punchline is more that he lets her steamroll over him without asserting that he isn't going to do that or that this is his show, he's still passive even though his mission that episode was to be more assertive

[S01E06] The Rehearsal SEASON FINALE "Pretend Daddy" - Episode Discussion by QueenAndreaa in nathanforyou

[–]thecorndogmaker 131 points132 points  (0 children)

My theory is that Nathan always becomes what he sets out to destroy. In the first episode, despite helping the guy confess Nathan fails to confess himself that he helped him cheat. In the episode before this, Nathan spent the entire time trying to stop being a pushover having Angela tell him what to do, only to have the teacher push him to publicly support Israel.

In this final episode, Nathan tries to stop the kid from believing Nathan is daddy, only for Nathan to believe he is dad at the end.

What role do extracellular vesicles "decoys" play in the immune system? "Circulating ACE2-expressing extracellular vesicles block broad strains of SARS-CoV-2" by thecorndogmaker in AskScienceDiscussion

Has this response been seen anywhere else in the literature? I don't work directly in the immunology field but I find this fascinating as a mechanism for neutralizing viruses outside of antibodies, t cells, complement, etc.

It shows a lot of wisdom as an 18 yo to acknowledge that.

I would try to step outside myself and assess objectively where the data and science are coming from.

Are these peer-reviewed articles, reviews, and meta-analyses from respected non-predatory journals? Statements from established psychological and sociological organizations?

Have I considered cases that contradict the norm, and tried to understand how they were successful?

Where do I get my information and who is interpreting it? People with my ideological bent or rigorous journalists, scientists, and science communicators? Notice what gives you pause or when you encounter a concept that you don't fully understand and dig deeper. Notice when you encounter information that gets you worked up, either angry because you so vehemently disagree or because it so thoroughly proves you right.

The population of Indians mentioned in the film are descendants of indentured servants sent to Fiji to work on sugar cane farms, known as "girmityas"

[VIDEO DISCUSSION] Psychiatrist Breaks Down the Perfectionist's Mentality by HealthyGamerOfficial in Healthygamergg

While there are definitely shitty people and racists out there, I think you are doing yourself a disservice by writing everyone off. People can pick up on if you distrust them, it's evident by your language. "degenerates" "hypocrisy"

In the same paragraph you talk about people hating you for not drinking, you acknowledge that they invited you to the bar after class. You're worried about beer pong, but you don't even want to drink! (You don't have to BTW, you can do it with soda or even water).

Also, I know it's annoying to hear because I never responded to it in the past either, but if you feel unattractive try switching up your hairstyle, clothes. Find something you feel comfortable in (but is still outside your current comfort zone) and shows you put thought into piecing it together. I never got complements before but now I do all the time.

I'd seek out a therapist if you haven't already. It seems like the people who treated you like shit on the past gave you a self-destructive pattern of thought that is holding you back. If the therapy isn't going anywhere articulate that to the therapist, and if it still feels bad go to one more session and seek out another therapist. Hell, you're on healthy gamer so maybe it's worth using their program.

My DMs are open if you are open to advice though, I do feel like I'm in a similar boat, but right now I think your problem is mental and ideological.

Hi, I find I have similar trains of thought, but I think you are getting way ahead of yourself. I am a recent college grad, until recently never gone on a date or done beer pong.

After years on and off dating apps I got a date, and during it slipped up that it was my first date (my date was much more socially competent than me, she has been on many before). There was surprise and it was slightly awkward, but nothing catastrophic, she commiserated on how hard it is to use these apps and said it was somewhat of an honor that this was my first date.

Same thing with beer pong and parties, I only started drinking after college and was at a party only knowing 3 people there. People are very eager to teach you drinking games and have you try drinks, even if you met only an hour ago.

Sometimes you'll meet people who are jerks, but I think that becomes more rare after college. And if someone does make fun of you for being inexperienced, they aren't the people you want to party with or date, in fact making fun of you shows they aren't socially well-adjusted themselves. Most people you will socialize with won't be cartoon bullies.

The difficult part is finding the opportunities for dates or parties, it helps if you have friends you are comfortable with. But using dating apps, going to parties, trying to start a study group with a lab partner, joining coworkers after work for drinks, and meeting friends of friends are all good starting points. You won't be 100% on your game socially, but that's how you get XP. Just gotta be brave and do it when the opportunity arises.

DM me if you want to talk more about it, I feel like I'm in the same boat but recently making small improvements

Is there a name for the type of "solution orientation" problem solving focussed therapy? Like therapy that gives life advice for when you just don't "get it?"

An experimental device that turns thoughts into text has allowed a man who was left paralyzed by an accident to construct sentences swiftly on a computer screen. by axl3ros3 in Futurology

[–]thecorndogmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way this thing works, as I gather from the linked article, is that it taps into the brain's motor pathways for writing, not necessarily the "inner monologue." The device is basically replacing the hand, it's like they disconnected his hand and plugged in a new one. So I wouldn't be too worried about a random thought slipping out, unless that happens to you when writing/typing.
