This week on Yeah Nah Pasaran! on 3CR we talk to Chris Wilson [X/Twitter]. Chris is the co-founder and director of Hate & Extremism Insights Aotearoa (HEIA) and a Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of Auckland. Along with his colleagues Ethan Renner, Jack Smylie and Michal Dziwulski, Chris has been researching the online activity of the Australian convicted of conducting the terrorist attacks on mosques in Christchurch on March 15, 2019. The fifth anniversary of the murderous assaults received little to no attention in Australian media and politics but it remains an important event, and Chris & Co. maintain that through ‘placing his online posting against his other online and offline activities, we gain a far more complete picture of the path to his attack’; further, it’s critical to appreciate that ‘his online community played a role in his radicalisation’.
