Seems Perkins has opted to put Jalen Brunson over Giannis. Doris Burke had mentioned this on the last game of the season that her and several media people had thought that if the Knicks got the first seed then Jalen Brunson should become First Team All NBA over Giannis. And here's one of the voters I suppose she was referring to. Really unfortunate how Giannis best season is being regarded.

There has never been an NBA player named Ethan. What's a relatively-common Western name that has somehow eluded MLB?

There have been two professional basketball players named Ethan who were ever associated with the NBA, and neither actually appeared in any NBA games:

  • Ethan Martin, LSU. 4th-round draft pick by the Cavs in 1981. Never appeared in any games.

  • Ethan Thompson, Oregon State. Undrafted. Played in Summer League and G-League for the Bulls in 2021. Currently plays in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (Puerto Rican basketball league).

The name Ethan has been one of the top 100 boys names in the US every year since 1989, and top 20 for the 2000s and 2010s. Frankly it is absurd that there has never been an NBA player named Ethan.

YOUR OKLAHOMA CITY BLUE ARE NBA G-LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

After starting the season 2-9, Ousmane Dieng scores 24 on the road and the Blue go on a 28-0 run between the 2nd and 3rd quarter to secure the organization's first championship since 2003-04 (as the Asheville Altitude) and the first since relocating to Oklahoma.

Incredible year top-to-bottom for the entire organization.

This is just logical. Make that tournament mean something towards the end of the year since the players are playing an extra game that doesn't get factored into their statistics. For instance, AD actually played 77 games this year and is about to play at least 78 games before the playoffs start. That's a physical toll and sacrifice on his body that affects what he can do in these situations. I get they get paid, but from a competitive standpoint this just makes too much sense to me.

People with the most pressure for the NBA Playoffs

People with the most pressure for NBA Playoffs

Jayson Tatum (Celtics)- Tatum has played in four Eastern Conference Finals but has only won one of those series. Last year, the Celtics were embarrassed by the eight-seeded Heat losing three out of four games at home. Tatum is in his prime and will probably make his third consecutive first-team All-NBA, but has yet to solidify his spot in Celtics history with a championship. The Celtics are not trading him if they do not win a championship but NBA fans may think is Tatum just this generation Patrick Ewing?

Joe Mazzulla (Celtics)-So why would a coach who has a winning percentage over .700 be on this list? Or the head coach who has lead the Celtics to the best record in the league this season? Here are the reasons that he is on the list:

  1. He has 5-6 record at home during the playoffs as a coach

  2. The Celtics trailed in series versus the Sixers and Heat last year even when they home court advantage

  3. They were rumors last year that he would be fired before he rallied the Celtics to lose in seven games to the Heat in the conference finals

The Celtics still have puzzling losses this season when they lost to Atlanta (twice), or gave away leads late in the game to the Nuggets and Pacers. Is Mazzulla the right guy lead the Celtics to an NBA Championship?

Darvin Ham (Lakers)-Ham is an another second-year coach that makes this list because of the expectations of the team that he coaches. The Lakers are headed to the play-in game again where they will have to once again fight to try to make a return to the NBA Finals. Despite having Lebron James and Anthony Davis play over 65 games this season, the Lakers are still going to finish in 9th place and did not have a record over .500 until February 3. They were widespread rumors that Ham’s job was in jeopardy earlier this season. The Lakers have a big decision to make next season with Lebron James being a free agent this summer and do not have a first-round pick in the upcoming draft. The window for the Lakers being a true title contender could be coming to an end. Can Darvin Ham be the coach to get Lebron James his fifth NBA championship?

Mike Dunleavy Jr. (Warriors)-This summer, the Warriors general manager will have to decide how they can improve this team that is getting older and at times this season struggled to find someone to complement Steph Curry. Klay Thompson will be a free agent this summer; but how much do you want to pay someone who has had an up and down season and is 34? Chris Paul has a non-guaranteed year and could be waived to provide some salary cap space. The Warriors have the highest payroll in the league this season but finishing 10th in the Western Conference is not where this team imagined they will be. What moves will Dunleavy make to get the Warriors as a title contender?

Koby Altman (Cavaliers)-Altman has two options:

Option 1: Keep Donovan Mitchell and hope that Mitchell will eventually agree to a contract extension that will keep him in Cleveland past the 24-25 season

Option 2: Be proactive and try to trade Donovan so that you can get something for him before he leaves as a free agent and re-stock their draft picks

A lot of what the Cavs decided to do will depending on how deep a playoff run that they can make this spring. If the Cavs could make a run to the conference finals would that convince Mitchell to stay and accept a contract extension or if they lose in the first round again is time to end the Donovan Mitchell era?

Minnesota Timberwolves-The Timberwolves enter the playoffs as a 3 seed in the Western Conference and winning the most games in a season since George W. Bush was president. They will have to face a Phoenix team that boasts some lethal playoff tested scorers in Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. The Rudy Gobert trade was made for Minnesota to go deep in the playoffs and if after two seasons they do not have any playoff series win it could continue to rise as one of the worst trades in NBA history.

Tier 2

Trae Young (Hawks)-The Hawks have made the play-in game for the third year in row and if they actually make to the first round of the playoffs will probably have a fast exit. The Hawks have only won three playoff games since making the conference finals in 2021 and still owe Young 178 million dollars on his contract. With a quick playoff exit, the Hawks may think about blowing this team up and think about what they could get back in trade for Young. The Hawks got a small preview of this team without Trey when he went out with an injury to his wrist and they went 11-8 without him.

Tom Thibodeau (Knicks)-Thibodeau has guided the Knicks to their highest win total since the 2012-2013 season. The Knicks could be in a position to be the second best team with Milwaukee and Philadelphia limping into the playoffs with injuries to the best players and Knicks having developed some depth that has helped them get to 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference even though Julius Randle has not played since late January and midseason acquisition OG Anunoby has been in and out of the lineup with a bad elbow. The question for the Knicks is can they go farther than the second round of the playoffs and build optimism for next season. If the Knicks don’t go far in the playoffs this season, does Knicks management wonder if Thibs is the guy to get them past the conference finals?

Klay Thompson (Warriors)-It is quite simple for Thompson. He will be a free agent at the end of the season and his best days as a player are behind him but he has a chance in the playoffs to remind people about his abilities. For all the talk about him being washed, he is a career 41 three point shooter and averaged 20 points in the series versus the Kings and 16 points versus the Lakers in the playoffs last season. He is playing for a contract next season and teams looking for a veteran player with a lots of playoff experience could be calling Thompson this summer.

Kevin Durant (Suns)-Of all the players on this list, he probably has the best resume of performing in the playoffs and the only one to win an MVP. I put him on this list because he has not gotten past the second round of the playoffs since he left the Warriors and you have to wonder can he make a deep playoff run on a non-Warriors team at this point of his career. The Suns needed the last game of the season just to not make the play-in game which is far below the expectations most people had of them in the beginning of the season. Durant will be 36 this season with a long of history of injuries and you wonder if this could be his last chance to silence critics who have bashed his decisions since he left the Warriors in 2019.

Ty Lue (Clippers)-In his fourth season, he has probably his most talented team and that is reflected in the fact that this team won over 50 games for the first time since 2016-2017 season. However, his tenure has been filled with untimely injuries of star players and not fulfilling the preseason predictions.Lue has a tough task of giving out minutes to a really deep roster of talent but he is already heard from players on this team about their minutes in the regular season and you would think that in the playoffs his rotation will get shorter. If they have an early playoff exit, does owner Steven Balmer find a new coach for the Clippers to open their new building next season?

Tier 3

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Thunder)-SGA will probably be making his second consecutive first team All-NBA and has lead OKC to the number one seed in the Western Conference. Even though this will not be his first time in the playoffs, casual basketball fans will finally get to watch SGA to see what all the hype is about. Will he stake his claim as the best guard in the NBA and start adding some playoff moments to his highlight reel?

Zion Williamson (Pelicans)-The number 1 pick overall in 2019 finally makes his playoff debut and has scored over 20 points 12 of his last 15 regular season games. It has been so much noise about him and his conditioning but he has played in seventy games this season and has been the Pelicans best player since the All-Star break. When he is playing well he is a matchup nightmare for opposing teams and the playoffs can be the start of him fulfilling the potential that he has since he was drafted.

Jaylen Brown (Celtics)-I know how many Celtics players can I put on this list, right? Last season, Brown hurt his hand right before the start of the playoffs picking up glass from a broken vase in his apartment and had some ugly playoff performances last year. In the playoff series to the Heat last year, he shot 16 percent from the three-point line for the series and only shot over 40 percent from the field twice in the seven game series. The internet has long talked about his inability to go left and another spring of poor shooting and turnovers going left will start a fresh round of scrutiny to someone whose big money extension that he signed last July will start after this season.

Damian Lillard (Bucks)-This is the time of the year that Lillard had in mind when they traded for Lillard last October. He was brought in to be the closer in tight games and provide a consistent second scoring option for the Bucks. The 12- year guard is back in the playoffs for the first time since 2021 and will need to step up for the Bucks to go far especially as star player Giannis Antetokounmpo may not be 100% healthy. If the Bucks do not make a deep playoff run, will the Bucks start to have buyer remorse?

Honorable Mention: Khris Middleton (Bucks), Chet Holmgren (Thunder), Bradley Beal (Suns), Tyler Herro (Heat), Luka Doncic (Mavericks), Tyrese Haliburton(Pacers), James Harden (Clippers), Evan Mobley (Cavaliers) and Mike Brown (Kings)

The Rotation Awards

(the awards I agonize over the most & still get wrong lmao)

I value depth over one solitary star (it’s a rotation after all). My attempt to make this more objective than past years:

  • Get position estimates from Basketball-Reference

    • players with most minutes at PG & SG: guard

    • players with most minutes at SG & SF or SF & PF: wing

    • players with most minutes at PC & C: big

    • exceptions: all players greater than 7 foot are bigs and all players less than 6 foot are guards

  • include all players above 100 mins, even if not on current roster

  • Rank teams based on highest positional VORP without positional VORP leader
