Does the Elven-king Amroth have something to do with the city Dol Amroth?

In the second book of the fellowship of the ring, while the fellowship rest next to the river Nimrodel, Legolas sings a song. He sings about the maiden Nimrodel and her lover, the Elven-king Amroth.

“… and [Nimrodel] was lost far in the South, in the passes of the White Mountains; and she came not to the ship where Amroth her lover waited for her.”

We know that the Elves of Lórien set sail in the Bay of Belfalas:

“… and Anduin flows into the Bay of Belfalas whence the Elves of Lórien set sail.”

The city Dol Amroth also lies in the Bay of Belfalas. As far as I know it is a city of Men.

But is there a connection between the Elven-king Amroth and the city Dol Amroth. Because I can hardly believe that it’s a coincidence that they have the same name. I hope some of you can answer my question. Thank you in advance!
