You have to start any non-QB in NFL history at QB for a full season. Who do you pick?

In the COVID season, the Broncos had to start a WR at QB in a game and it went very poorly. Suppose you had to do it for a full season. You have a functional NFL team, you want the team to succeed and you can pick any non-QB in NFL history to quarterback the team. Who is your pick?

We've got the best receiving corps in the NFL.

Am I drunk on optimism and overreacting? Fuck yes.

Next best, IMHO, would be Bengals with Chase/Higgins.

Hell, I'd say we have the most potent offense entirely.

Brown

Smith

Goedert

Barkley

We are gonna be good if not great for the next 3-4 years, at least, confirmed. Need some solid defensive draft picks to hit, but this offense just looks like it's gonna be nuts.

Selecting the right QB in the NFL draft

Of the last 7 draft classes (plus Luck & RG3):

Bo Nix is bottom 10 in:

  • career worst Y/A (8 games/150 att)

  • career worst Passer rating

  • Passer rating variance (best vs worst)

  • career worst offensive ppg

  • offensive ppg variance

  • TD variance (best vs worse)

QBs with 5 or more categories in bottom 10:

Drew Lock

Daniels Jones

Jacob Eason

Kellen Mond

Kenny Pickett

Paxton Lynch

Jared Goff

Davis Mills

Jordan Love

Josh Allen

Bo Nix

Josh Rosen

Will Levis

Deshone Kizer

Davis Webb

Jayden Daniels is bottom 10 in:

  • QB rating variance (best vs worst)

  • offensive ppg variance

  • TD variance

BUT

Top 5 in:

  • Career best Y/A

  • Career best QB rating

  • career best offensive ppg

  • career best AY/A

QBs with 4 bottom 10 categories:

Anthony Richardson

Desmond Ridder

Jayden Daniels

QBs with 5 or more top 10:

Stroud

MJones

Fields

C. Williams

Young

Daniels

Mayfield

RGIII

Watson

Hurts

Grier

Lawrence

Murray

8/14 hits 3 busts 3 pending

The only other QBs in the past 7 drafts with similar profiles as Daniels are Baker Mayfield, RGIII and Deshaun Watson.

Considering that it took 5 years to get those numbers it's high risk to draft Daniels imo.

In terms of the rest of the class. Maye and Williams have very little risk:

0 bottom 10 categories

Caleb Williams

Drake Maye

1 bottom 10 categories

JJ McCarthy (bottom 10 career best passing TDs)

Spencer Rattler (bottom 10 offensive ppg variance)

I think if you're drafting a QB and you aren't getting Maye or Williams, your next best bet is Rattler. Penix wasn't supposed to be included because he's not a top 6 prospect for me but since I added McCarthy due to consensus I added Penix and he would have 7 bottom 10.

If the NFL teams with success have rookie QB contracts, why are QBs given $50m+ if that's not the 'meta'?

Seems oddz to me that the teams that win it all have young rookie QBs on low contract. When's the last time a huge contract QB won it all?

It seems teams that dump a 5th or more of their cap space into QB fail.... Besides Mahomes.

What am I missing?
