U21s: 
Senior Cup date set

Following last week's postponement caused by a waterlogged pitch at Woodhorn Lane, a new date for the Northumberland Senior Cup semi-final between Ashington and Newcastle U21s has been agreed.

The Colliers will host the Magpies on Thursday May 2nd at 7.30pm. There's no provision for extra time or a replay; if the scores are level after 90 minutes then the tie will be settled by a penalty shootout.

Advance purchase tickets are valid for the new date. Anyone unable to make the rescheduled tie can apply for a refund via [email protected]

At stake is a trip to SJP in the final, against either Blyth Town or Newcastle Benfield. Their semi-final meeting is scheduled for Wednesday April 24th.

Speaking to Chronicle scribe Lee Ryder following the 4-0 home win over Spurs, Lewis Hall confirmed that the terms switching his loan move from Chelsea to a permanent transfer had been met:  

"I am here now as a Newcastle player and I really enjoy it. The future looks really good for the club with so many young and talented players. It is going in the right direction."

"I played a lot of my early senior appearances at left-back or wing-back. But I like to be versatile and play in other positions if required.

"I used to be a midfielder when I was younger but wherever the gaffer wants me to play I will play."

The 19 year-old made his twelfth Premier League appearance as a Magpie on the day that victory for Newcastle confirmed they'd finish 14th or higher. 

The second stipulation that Hall to be named in 30 or more first team squads was also met, meaning that a £28m switch from Stamford Bridge is now locked in.

Newcastle U21s returned to PL2 action on Saturday morning against Fulham at Whitley Park. 

Scoreless at the break, the pink-clad visitors went ahead on 62 minutes through Delano McCoy-Splatt, only for  Jamie Miley to immediately equalise with his first goal of the season.

Parity was fleeting however; Lemar Gordon restoring Fulham's lead on 80 minutes before Joshua King gave the final score a slightly lop-sided look by beating home custodian Jude Smith in the final seconds of normal time.

The Saints ran out 3-2 winners over Watford at St.Mary's in the Championship on Saturday. Ryan appeared as a 56th minute substitute and was yellow-carded.

The on-loan Magpie was fielded for the opening 61 minutes of a 2-3 loss at Southampton in the Championship on Saturday.

A single home success over Rotherham United in the Championship on Saturday was achieved without Ashby.

Restored to the matchday squad, Kell was among the unused replacements as the Latics won 2-1 away to Lincoln City in League One on Saturday.

There was no place for Matty in the Exiles squad on Saturday, as they lost 1-2 at home to Tranmere Rovers in League Two.

A 4-2 home win over Cove Rangers in Scottish League One on Saturday saw Michael make the briefest of appearances, introduced from the bench in the fourth minute of time added on.

2024/25:
ST renewal / price increase confirmation

NUFC confirmed on Friday that the 2023/24 season ticket price increase will be repeated for 2024/25 season tickets: an average of 3.3% achieved by raising adult prices by 5% and freezing junior prices.

The renewal period has also been brought forward this year from June/July to April/May.

Individual match day prices weren't announced.

From NUFC, Friday:

Newcastle United can announce that the renewal process for 2024/25 season tickets will open on Tuesday, 23rd April.

Supporters will be able to renew their existing season tickets here until 5pm on Monday, 20th May. Season ticket holders who renew their ticket will also be able to enrol in soon-to-be-confirmed cup schemes.

The club has once again frozen prices for all junior categories, while thousands of supporters will continue to pay prices set during the 2011/12 season as part of a long-term price freeze deal.

Prices for all remaining season ticket categories will rise by 5%, ensuring a blended average price rise of 3.3% across St. James' Park.

The club has continued to invest in enhancing the matchday experience at St. James' Park, including adding licensed standing, improved concourses, new digital services and an exciting new fan zone - the St. James' STACK, presented by Sela - which is set to open this summer. Work to enhance stadium connectivity will also commence soon.

The club has also commissioned an ongoing comprehensive feasibility study with a leading global agency to explore what is possible in terms of expanding and enhancing the stadium in future.

RENEWING YOUR SEASON TICKET

The renewal process for existing season ticket holders will open at 10am on Tuesday, 23rd April and renewals should be completed online here

The deadline for season ticket renewals is 5pm on Monday, 20th May. For those wishing to pay by monthly Direct Debit, this will allow the first payment to be taken on Wednesday, 5th June, to allow for payment over nine months.

PAYMENTS - SEASON TICKETS

Season tickets can be paid up front in full, or, for additional flexibility and convenience, via monthly direct debit. Instructions will be included during the renewal purchasing process.

CUP COMPETITIONS

Information on cup schemes will be confirmed at the point renewals open. Season ticket holders will be need to opt in to each cup scheme separately at the time of renewal. Those season ticket holders on long term price-freeze deals will need to log on to their account and opt in to each cup scheme they wish to join. The cup scheme opt-in period will open on Tuesday, 23rd April and close on Friday, 21st June, at 5pm.

MAGPIE MOVER

During the renewal process, supporters will be able to buy or renew their Magpie Mover pass for transit to and from St. James' Park on home matchdays (subject to terms and conditions). Magpie Mover passes must be paid for in full by debit/credit card at the time of the transaction.

CUP SEATING

Our aim is to ensure that all enrolled season ticket holders can enjoy eligible matches from their existing season ticket seat.

However, for some domestic and/or European matches (subject to qualification), seating requirements in specific areas may result in your existing season ticket seat not being available.

Should this be the case, an alternative seat will be offered for affected matches.

TRANSFERRING TICKETS

Season ticket holders will once again be able to transfer tickets to eligible registered family members or friends if they are unable to attend a match. This will be supported by ID checks at St. James' Park.

Eligibility to access future rounds/finals of cup competitions will remain with the original season ticket holder.

YOUR SEASON TICKET

All season ticket holders will need to download their digital season ticket once for the full season.

For cup matches, separate individual match tickets will need to be downloaded.

Update: 
Sports Direct v NUFC 
- tribunal decision

Update: Friday saw the Competition Appeal Tribunal rule that the Sports Direct claim against Newcastle United was insufficient to merit the granting of an injunction against the club.

The case will proceed to trial unless an alternative solution can be reached, with no delay to the June home kit launch permissible, regardless of whether said trial has taken place by then.

Sports Direct are challenging the club's plans to sell next season's shirts themselves and via retailer JD Sports - the latter gaining an exclusive licence. 

Earlier: details of next season's Adidas kit releases were mentioned during the tribunal, including a home kit launch on June 7th, the away kit in July and a third kit in August.

Figures disclosed during the tribunal also suggest that the Adidas production run is around 375,000 shirts.

Midfielder commits

From NUFC, Thursday, a genuinely heartening piece of news despite the fact he's currently unavailable: 

Newcastle United are delighted to announce that Joelinton has signed a new long-term contract at St. James' Park.

The Brazilian midfielder joined the club from Hoffenheim in a then-club record deal in 2019 and has since amassed 179 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 25 goals.

Initially playing as a forward, the 27-year-old has been a revelation in a deeper box-to-box midfield role under head coach Eddie Howe and was a driving force last season as the club reached the Carabao Cup final and qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

In June 2023, Joelinton's club performances were rewarded with international recognition and he scored on his senior debut for Brazil in a 4-1 win against Guinea.

After agreeing a new deal with the Magpies, Joelinton said: "I feel great. I feel very happy and my family is happy. A lot of things have happened in my years here. I've learnt a lot and grown a lot, and for me to come here to Newcastle was the best decision of my career.

"I love playing for the club. I love the club, I love the fans. We had a lot of discussions and I always wanted to be here. I'm glad to continue and I hope to have success in the years to come."

Head coach Eddie Howe added: "This has been a big priority for us off the pitch and I'm absolutely delighted Joelinton has committed his future to the club.

"Joey is an exceptional player and person, and the love he has for the club is reciprocated by all of us here. He brings unique qualities to the group and undoubtedly makes us stronger.

"I'd like to thank everyone involved behind the scenes for bringing this to a swift and positive conclusion. We are all excited to see Joelinton in a Newcastle shirt for many years to come."

The Premier League confirmed on Wednesday that
Newcastle's final home game of the season against Brighton isn't among the live TV picks and therefore remains a 3pm start on Saturday May 11th. 

Meanwhile our postponed PL visit to Manchester United will be staged on Wednesday May 15th with an 8pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports.

That leaves only confirmation of whether our final day visit to Brentford will be selected for live UK TV - although that would have no bearing on the kick-off, already set for 4pm on Sunday May 19th.

PS: That Brighton scheduling is bad news for any season ticket holders hoping to attend Gateshead's FA Trophy Final at Wembley on May 11th.

Hong Kong return
now confirmed

The annual Hong Kong Soccer Sevens competition returns between May 24th and 26th, with Newcastle United among the 16 teams participating.

The Magpies have won the event three times and are joined by defending champions Aston Villa, Brighton, Fulham, West Ham, Leicester City and Rangers.

PS: The veterans section of the Soccer Sevens will also run at the same time, with Wallsend Boys club defending their Masters crown.

Yet another injury

Newcastle winger Trevan Sanusi has taken to social media to confirm that an unspecified injury has prematurely ended his first season at Gallowgate.

The fleet-footed 16 year-old was acquired from Birmingham City last September and promoted to the U21s two months later. He's gone on to net twice in his eight reserve appearances to date.  

Spotted training with the first team last month, Sanusi's omission from the United side for Friday's PL2 win over West Bromwich Albion prompted speculation of a call-up to the squad for our PL visit to Fulham.

Instead however, the England U17 international prospect faces a spell on the sidelines - hopefully nothing more than a temporary setback.

PS: fellow teenager Travis Hernes has also been missing in recent weeks since debuting at U21 level - another presumed victim of our injury curse....

NUST survey 

The 2024 Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) survey is now online and members have until 7pm on Tuesday April 16th to complete theirs.

The survey seeks to capture views on home and away ticketing, atmosphere at home games and possible stadium redevelopment and relocation. There's also a section of NUST-related questions.

Results will play a part in guiding the future policy of the NUST - it's therefore in the collective interest to gauge the opinions of as many of the 13,000+ members as possible. Country call for Kuol 

Currently on loan at Dutch league basement club Volendaam but struggling for pitch time there, United's Garang Kuol has unsurprisingly been released to answer a call-up by Australia's U23 side.

The Olyroos are one of 16 participants in the U23 Asian Cup finals staged in Qatar between April 15th and May 3rd. They are in Group D along with the host nation and will play their group games in Doha:

Kuol - who is joined by elder brother Alou in the squad - earned a call-up after helping Australia reach the final of the WAFF (West Asian Football Federation) Championships in Saudi Arabia last month.

The top three sides in the competition will earn a place in the Olympic Football tournament in Paris between July 24th and August 9th. The side that finishes fourth enters a qualification playoff.

The deadline for a response by Sandro Tonali to FA charges arising from multiple breaches of football betting rules was Friday (5th).

The Italian midfielder is currently suspended from all forms of football until August 27th 2024 - just under a fortnight after the next PL season kicks off.

Following a successful tour of the region two years ago, Wor Bella returns to the stage in both London and Newcastle later this month.

Playwright Ed Waugh's work about the prolific female footballer Bella Reay runs at Clapham's Bread & Roses Theatre for three nights from Monday April 22nd, switching to Newcastle's Theatre Royal for a trio of shows over the following weekend.

Ed's play centres on Bella's starring role for Blyth Spartans Ladies in the 1918 Munitionettes Cup final, played before an aggregate crowd of 22,000 fans at Gallowgate and Ayresome Park. 

We had a pair of tickets for each venue to give away and asked what the Palmers company of Jarrow that Bella also played for manufactured.

2023/24:
Toon down under

Newcastle have confirmed two post-season games in Australia, both to be staged as part of the Global Football Week in Melbourne.

United will face fellow Premier League side Spurs at the 95,000 seat Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Wednesday May 22nd at 7.45pm (local time). 

On Friday May 24th they'll move to the 53,000 capacity Marvel Stadium and face the A-League All Star Men. That's a 5.15pm kick-off, followed by a game between the A-League All Star Women and Arsenal Women at 8.05pm.

It's yet to be confirmed whether one or both of our games will be broadcast live in the UK.
