CPJ examines the challenges and consequences of gender-based violence against women and non-binary journalists in a variety of contexts. Gender-based violence and harassment-- both online and offline -- is often used to silence and intimidate female journalists.

Azory Gwanda, a freelance journalist working in rural Tanzania, has been missing since November 21, 2017. The Tanzanian government has failed to launch a credible investigation into his fate, and on occasion has even dismissed his case offhand.

CPJ supports the rights of journalists to protect confidential information when submitting to customs and border control protocols worldwide, and is therefore concerned about policies that would undermine this right.

Never have so many different types of journalists reported the news on so many different platforms. Yet no matter the form of journalism—from investigative to beat reporting, foreign correspondence to domestic coverage, blogging to photojournalism—thorough preparation is the starting point.

On October 2, 2019, CPJ marked the one-year anniversary of the murder of Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi with a candlelight vigil in Washington, D.C., outside the Saudi Arabian embassy.
