NBA admits the Lakers and Grizzlies accidentally played an extra minute and no one noticed

Source

From SBNation: “The NBA is off on Saturday to prepare for the final day of the regular season on Sunday, but the Grizzlies’ scorekeeper may have clocked out a little early during the team’s Friday loss against the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers got a closer-than-it-should-have-been, 123-120 victory over the remains of the Grizzlies in Memphis on Friday night to give themselves a chance to hold onto the eighth seed heading into the NBA play-in, but it turns out that they might have had to hold onto their lead a little longer than was necessary.

On Saturday morning, NBA Twitter user Ramiro Bentes noticed that due to a mistake made during a shot clock reset, the Lakers and Grizzlies accidentally played more than a minute of extra game time... and apparently neither team noticed:

‘Just realized the Lakers and Grizzlies played 13:06 minutes in the 3rd quarter last night. When the shot clock was supposed to be reset at 1:14, the game clock was also accidentally reset to 2:20. No one noticed and they played the rest of the way with the new game clock.’”

The NBA then confirmed the error

Baseball fans of r/NBA, who is the NBA’s version Angel Hernandez?

Angel Hernandez is perhaps the most infamous ref in all of sports right now, and I know he’s been known for his absurdly bad calls for years now, but beyond that I know quite little.

Who in the NBA, if anyone, best compares to Hernandez? My best guesses would probably be Scott Foster or maybe Tony Brothers, but without knowing the full history and background of Hernandez I don’t really know who the best comparison is.

NBA playoffs

What are my options for watching the playoffs? I’m in Annapolis Md USA I don’t have cable. I have an over the air antenna. I do not have a live tv streamer- (you tube, Hulu, fubo, etc) I have most of the other streamers (Disney, apple, Hulu without live tv, espn+, Netflix, paramount, peacock, max) I’d consider paying for a month or two of NBA league pass (at $14 per month). I’m not going to pay for a live tv streamer. Am I going to be blacked out of any teams? (Not worried about wizards but am worried about the Sixers?) And am I going to be blacked out of the national games on tnt/tbs?

Throughout Lebron’s career, which NBA fan base has trash talked him the most?

Lebron has been the center of NBA attention for the past couple decades. And with great fame come a great amount of haters. But which team fan base has the most? Which fan base’s hate runs deepest?

I don’t have an exact answer for you but I’ll share my hypothesis and I hope y’all do too in the comments.

My best guess is actually his current team, the Lakers. That Kobe-Lebron rivalry ran deep for a lonnnng time.

I suppose someone could run an algorithm to scan each fanbase & their comments to find a value that shows the % of negatively Lebron associated remarks.

I’m sure a lot of fan bases would like to lay claim to the title of biggest Lebron haters. But there can only be one. What team do yall think it is?

Top posts on r/nba 10 years ago (April 7-13, 2014)

I've been doing these for a few weeks now and I just now realized that it probably makes more sense to post these for the upcoming week than it does for the week that just happened. That way, you know in advance when something happened exactly 10 years ago to the day when that day comes. I don't know, it made more sense in my head. As a result, I'll be posting next week's tomorrow and will continue doing the upcoming week.

Here are the top 3 most upvoted posts every day this week in 2014:

April 7th, 2014:

1. THE PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS OFFICIALLY CLINCH A PLAYOFF BERTH!! - u/HEY_LOOK_AT_MY_BALLS

The Blazers clinch a playoff spot after missing the playoffs the previous two seasons. This would be Damian Lillard's first playoff appearance.

2. LeBron's Shaqtin moment (gif) - u/LukasJ

The clip doesn't work, so I will link it to the comments, but it's a pretty tame travel compared to some we've seen since.

3. Hawks violate Pacers 107-88 - u/Redditsucks9gagrulz

Jeff Teague and Pero Antic lead the 33-42 Hawks to beating a fully healthy first-seeded Pacers team.

April 8th, 2014:

1. Kemba and MKG after the NCAA Title Game - u/Virginia_Slim

Kemba, who went to UConn, poses with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who went to Kentucky, after UConn beat Kentucky in the NCAA championship game. Funny how UConn is back at the top and Kentucky is usually losing in the first or second round these days.

2. The Playoff Race No One's Talking About: Toronto and Chicago for Third in the East - u/Chad3000

Toronto ended up getting the 3 seed and lost to the Nets in the first round. Chicago got the 4 and lost to the Wizards in round one.

3. Nerlens Noel Says he is Finally 100%, Increased his Vertical by 3'', and is Stronger Than Before - u/jjpoole77

Nerlens Noel had just been drafted with the 6th pick and missed his first year in the NBA with an ACL tear.

April 9th, 2014:

1. Mason Plumlee block on Lebron James to end the game - u/-MarcusD-

Rookie Mason Plumlee blocks the King to give the Nets the win over second-seeded Heat. Clip is broken so link will be in comments.

2. All 5 Pacer starters will sit tonight in Milwaukee - u/bobbo1701

The Pacers won this game with a starting lineup of Evan Turner, Donald Sloan, Luis Scola, Rasual Butler, and Ian Mahinmi. Those Bucks were bad.

3. The Most Important game in the History of Wizards vs. Bobcats is Happening Tonight

The Bobcats won this game but ultimately had the 6th seed still taken away by the Wizards.

April 10th, 2014:

1. Terrence Ross hits a 360 three as the shot clock expires - u/Rohh

Terrence Ross was a fan favorite at this time and was one of the best human highlight reels in the league.

2. GFY Joakim Noah decided to sit out the rest of the game with his girlfriend. - u/-MarcusD-

It wasn't Joakim Noah, but it looked a lot like him. I'll find a clip and put it in the comments.

3. Rockets players re-enacting Django - u/The_New_New

Not sure what this one is about. You must have had to be there.

April 11th, 2014:

1. The field goal % of Lebron James over his career

A very misleading graph that nonetheless is still yet another impressive LeBron achievement.

2. Kenneth Faried game winner vs. Warriors - u/wafrhest

The clip actually works!

3. "Chicks dig the layup." - JJ Barea - u/DualJ

5'10" JJ Barea speaks up on behalf of the vertically challenged.

April 12th, 2014:

1. Heat overwrite Pacers' save file 98-86 - u/shrinkwrappedzebra

The Heat get one game closer to the Pacers, but the Pacers would keep the 1 seed.

2. Adam Silver just told Spurs broadcasters NBA "might move" on playoff format to go to top 16 teams, instead of 8 per conference - u/__gabe

They didn't.

3. Celtics win a meaningless game and hurt their chances in the lottery while also hurting the Bobcats playoff seeding by winning 106-103

This win for the Celtics didn't end up mattering because Cleveland would jump everyone to grab the first pick anyway, but this L for the Bobcats gave them the 7 seed instead of the 6.

April 13th, 2014:

1. Russell Westbrook goes for a block that doesn't matter and falls on his ass - u/-MarcusD-

It was pretty dumb, but it's Russ. Clip doesn't work but will be in comments.

2. NEW YORK KNICKS OFFICIALLY ELIMINATED FROM PLAYOFF CONTENTION

Carmelo Anthony's Knicks were embarrassingly erased from playoff contention. This would be the first season of a 7-year playoff drought that wouldn't see an end until 2021.

3. With the Knicks officially eliminated from the playoffs tonight, this season will mark the first time in NBA history that neither the Lakers, Celtics, or Knicks will be in the NBA postseason. - u/VintageVino

This has not happened since, despite the Knicks best efforts.
