About

Technology, science, and energy are vitally important to modern society. Current issues in artificial intelligence, public health, climate change, and geopolitical competition are all too plain. While there is no shortage of popular opinions on these issues, our political discourse suffers from a dearth of informed analysis on the nature and role of these forces in our public life. Illiberal forces plague both the left and the right, and our institutions are tempted by technocracy.

Therefore, we badly need a humane alternative in science and technology policy that advances the goals of human freedom and dignity. The Center for Technology, Science, and Energy (CTSE) is a project of the American Enterprise Institute and exists to meet this need.

Inspired by a robust, center-right tradition, CTSE provides public policies to address serious concerns about government oversight and emerging technologies without falling into populism and doomerism.

In short, we seek to promote scientific excellence, technological innovation, and energy abundance for the sake of American liberty, security, and prosperity.

CTSE cultivates the intellectual and moral resources for our nation’s leaders to think and act prudently in the face of the dizzying array of issues posed by science and technology.
