If you think all emo is about girls then idk what you’re listening to and I hope you don’t make music. Many emo artists have written about sociopolitical issues from a personal perspective and other things bigger than themselves. Elliott, The Hotelier, Desparecidos, Peregrine, Celebration Guns, Rainer María, Foxing, Orchid, etc
You’re making an over exaggeration. Guess what? I listened to that album too and only 1-2 songs are actually about what you’re referring to. The rest are about touring life, life after college, and living with roommates. It’s not just the vocals, the whole songwriting is delivered as something hard to take seriously after you reach 21 years old
Nah, they’re by far the weakest link in this whole list. I’m tired of sappy pop punk posturing itself as emo while writing songs about high school and ex-girlfriends. They are one of the many examples that have turned “Midwest emo” into a punchline. Personally, I encourage artists who take their art seriously and would like to see emo move back to a rawer and more introspective direction.
