I started a baito last week working at an izakaya in Shibuya, and it has been such a terrible experience. There were roaches all over the kitchen and resto, berating and toxic behaviour from the managers and other employees, no breaks, and I realized I couldn’t handle the second hand smoking.
I had about 5 shifts then realized I couldn’t handle it anymore so I messaged them on Line first thing in the morning (the shift started in the evening) to let them know I couldn’t work anymore due to health conditions and I will no longer be going in.
They didn’t message me back until 1 am the next day asking why I didn’t come in and to please come in the next day to complete the resignation process. The message was passive aggressive in tone and now I’m concerned if I should even go in to finish any paperwork…
Note: I even told them that they don’t have to pay me for the 5 shifts I worked as I haven’t given minimum 2 weeks notice.
Is it bad if I just don’t go back to the izakaya… is formal resignation a requirement for a baito?
