Can an average man who cannot be called for a foul make the nba?

He is a 22 year old man of average athleticism. 5’10, 170. He cannot be called for a foul, ever. He can punch people in the face, walk with the ball, grab people around the waist etc.

Coaches are aware of his talent/ability, and will deploy it strategically.

Does he make the NBA?

Does he get playing time?

Is he in DPOY contention?

The Boston Celtics become the first NBA team to shoot zero free throws. their opponent the Bucks also only had two attempts (making just one).

https://apnews.com/article/celtics-bucks-free-throw-record-b36fbe8d02980e4bf61c865a9ca95ecf

The Milwaukee Bucks and Celtics combined for a record-low two free throw attempts Tuesday night, when the Celtics became the first team in NBA history to not shoot one.

Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo shot the only two free throws of the game, making one, with 19 seconds left in the first quarter of the Bucks’ 104-91 victory.

...

The Memphis Grizzlies and Atlanta Hawks shared the previous record of one attempted free throw in a game. The Bucks committed just four fouls Tuesday, the fewest in league history.

The two combined attempts shattered the previous record of 11, set on Nov. 10, 2019, when Indiana shot five and Orlando had six.

This is a pretty wild stat. While Giannis left the game with an apparent injury and Porzingis was listed as out, both teams were otherwise relatively healthy. As the article mentions, Antetokounmpo leads the league with 780 free-throw attempts, and Dame is 7th with 494. Jayson Tatum is not far behind at 8th with 488.

State of USA basketball/nba , possibility of not getting gold in Paris

I don’t quite understand JJ reddick’s point about how primitive college basketball is compared to the nba. He still points out that European teams have more actions in their sets and that they move the ball more/cut more. From what I’ve seen, the best college basketball programs incorporate sets that have multiple actions and motion offenses that spread the ball more. They also play through the post more. Like to me, jay wrights motion offense, the Princeton offense(multiple teams run this), Dan Hurley’s offensive sets and off ball screens, Rick pitino’s motion offense, coach k, they all emphasize off ball screens, movement and passing. Specifically, Dan hurley’s offense is one of the more complicated ones. I think relying on a high pick and roll and maybe running one other action like a split action or a dho makes your offense one dimensional. It’s just relying on pure talent rather than strategy. This is why I think team USA not getting gold in paris is a real possibility. I think teams like Germany France and even Croatia or Greece can beat the US. The US relies on hero ball to much. Outside of pop and coach k in the past 20 years , I don’t think the coaching staff can pull it off. Sorry for the end being rant-like but these are some thoughts. I acknowledge that I don’t know as much basketball as jj reddick, but I have worked in a division 1 basketball program so I have some knowledge.

The Celtics are the first team in NBA history to shoot 0 free throws in a game.

VintageNBA is 5 years old!

I don't have the time or energy to make this a whole thing, but I have to acknowledge this anniversary because it really is cool how far this community has come since our very humble start.

Today, April 10, is the 5-year anniversary of VintageNBA! This is obviously an exciting milestone, but it’s more exciting to see how this community has developed into a great place to ask questions and learn about almost any aspect of basketball history. I started VintageNBA out of “necessity” (it was difficult getting any traction or serious responses about “old-school” topics on the NBA sub), and it was a comment in this post of mine in March of 2019 that pushed me to start the new sub:

"...be the change you want to see my dude. Start it and hopefully you’ll find people passionate about that era of basketball!"

Lots of people have stepped up over the years with particular areas of interest and/or expertise, and with more contributing regulars we’re all able to gain from the deeper insights and shared anecdotes. I thank you all for helping do all of this, and my biggest thank you for all that they've done is for u/TringlePringle. Many of you know many of the ways that they have made this a better place, and I assure you that there is even more done behind the scenes. Thank you so much, as this journey wouldn't have been as fun or as successful without you!

We passed 10,000 subscribers less than 6 months ago, and right now we're up to 15,978. I'll end by quoting how TringlePringle ended that post announcing when we crossed into five-digit membership:

And if you're on the outside looking in but want to be more involved with this sort of stuff, there's no better time than now. We all started somewhere.

Joel Embiid has missed 48% of possible regular season games in his NBA career

431 games played over 10 seasons = ~52%

I saw a comment about how he missed most of his college season being injured, and it got me thinking about just how much time he’s missed in the NBA since arriving. This is obviously slightly skewed from missing his first two seasons, but he’s sitting at just around 50% for his entire career - feels like when it’s all said and done, he’ll be a major “what-if” in terms of all time greatness
