Yep. When Apple went *nix I went Apple and haven't looked back. Linux on the servers, Mac OS on my daily drivers.

What is the recommended way to install Single-Node OpenShift or OKD?

jstevewhite
replied to srednax

Yeah, of course that's the "official" answer. Openshift is such a hog, though. I've got a fairly signfiicant virtualization network and a full Openshift/OKD deployment (3 masters/2 workers) brings brings it to its knees. So many moving parts; you can learn stuff on Openshift Local, but i wouldn't recommend it for workloads, of course.

How do you keep your services up to date?

jstevewhite
replied to CrispyBegs

Yep. I run "all these services" to learn, not because I can't find an external site that hosts a pastebin or image sharing app. I do it to 'dogfood' services.

Of course I use a lot of the skillset in my day job so it's "continuing education", as they say.

Help regarding Remote Access

Yeah, default deployment of magicDNS caused me big issues initially. But if you look at the DNS tab, you can add DNS servers ( i.e. 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 ) and it will only use tailscale's dns for your tailnet's names - or that's what the docs say; I need to take the time to turn it back on and verify.

Also, after talking about the speed, I did some testing in my lab. tailscale has a non-trivial CPU impact, and if one of your endpoints has lower CPU, you may see throttling. I get near linespeed between my Mac and my NAS, but to one of my VMs I only get about 600mb/s.

which is better running multiple container with mysql in it or running single container of mysql and connecting other containers to that?

This. Combining different tools into the same container is generally frowned upon. :D

jstevewhite

In general if you're running them all in containers, there's little overhead cost to giving each app its own database. An idle maridb or postgres doesn't use much in the way of RAM or CPU; e.g. my guacamole postgres shows 0%, my pixelfed mysql shows 1%.

Help regarding Remote Access

jstevewhite
commented

If nothing outside of your tailscale needs access to the service, just use your tailscale ip. It's mesh, so point-to-point and will approach linespeed. On my GBE network, I can saturate the link between two tailscale endpoints. You can use tailscale magicDNS too.

Help regarding Remote Access

Tailscale will approach linespeed in most networks. It's a mesh (point to point), so accessing the tailscale IP should be just as fast as using your local IP. I often use the tailscale IP as the default access method.

I was looking for an instagram-like interface and finally settled on pixelfed. It's the best experience for this sort of casual sharing where you don't want to move your entire portfolio into the hosted app. It's also ActivityPub if you wanna connect it to the FediVerse. My instance:

All of this. But you can go to System Preferences, General, About, and you'll see there whether you can buy Applecare without jumping through any phone-call hoops.

Frankly, Unless it's an INSANE deal and checks out in person, I'd give it a pass if I couldn't click "buy Applecare+ now".
