This is a place for ladies and gentlemen to discuss news, technology and lifestyles of the period between 1837 and 1901. We are proper and well-versed in conversation but not a novelty. This is for people who enjoy the time period but not necessarily steampunk. It's for a more authentic view of the Victorian era.

Tom Branson was a coward

Umm… your first point is entirely misguided. Ireland was under British colonial suppression for at least 700 years. Why on earth would Tom fight for his imperialist overlords?

I mean, smiling in portraits/pictures is a modern concept. It was considered undignified (and impossible) for people hold a smile during a sitting. So it fits the tense atmosphere of the painting to be honest

This fanbase is nasty. I knew it would complain about the casting, but not at this level. These idiots often forget that the actors are real people. We’re so used to 25–30 year olds playing teenagers that it’s easy to forget that the characters are meant to look young and soft. Actors shouldn’t have to look like supermodels to portray a “mysterious aura”. Their characters are kids. Let the actors look fresh faced to emphasise their extreme youth in this war. This place can be so toxic it’s disgusting.

Mai in the series looks like a baby with soft personality.

This fandom often forgets that these are real people we’re talking about. The actors are very young and mostly age-accurate. We’re so used to 25–30 year olds playing teenagers that it’s easy to forget that the characters are meant to look soft and babyish. Actors shouldn’t have to look like supermodels to portray a “mysterious aura”. Their characters are kids. Let the actors look fresh faced to emphasise their extreme youth in this war.

Besides, neither Mai or Ty Lee’s actresses have had much to do at this time, so it’s best to reserve one’s judgement until we get more NATLA content. One can be disagree with the casting, but being this nitpicky over someone’s actual appearance is nasty.
