Should I hold/push up my fabric when I sew, to take the tension off and avoid stretching?

If you're having trouble with the fabric stretching under the foot as it sews, cut strips of tissue paper and sandwich your fabric with them.

Two bottles of a sweet prosecco and 4-6 single serving bottles of various fruit juices. Pomegranate, grapefruit, and guava are good variations on the standard OJ. Kerns apricot nectar, too. Add a basket of fresh strawberries, washed and ready to eat. Or whatever her favorite berry is if you can find it.

Sounds like your method doesn't work very reliably. So I suggest changing your method.

Yes, you can. Nobody's forcing you to do this. You simply choose to keep doing it. Choose something else next time. Keep choosing something else when you get the urge to use a method that's not very useful.
