What's a book that was so good/enjoyable that you couldn't put it down?

At the moment, for me, one book comes to mind: Name of the Wind.

For me, it took some time to get into the story, but once I did, it was really enjoyable.

The book wasn't short, but I just kept wanting to read more.

Something about how the main character tells his own story. It was written very well. I felt like I could experience what he was describing. Like I was there. Really drew me in. Not all authors do that so effectively. And when the main character gets in trouble, you're just rooting for him the whole time.

What's a book that had you prisoner? (And why)

What about the book kept you invested? Was it the story, a particular character, a unique concept, a magic system? Etc.

(This isn't a book request. I'm just curious what book(s) kept people hooked. Everyone has different likes/dislikes. Interesting to see what books people really enjoyed)

I love reading but I have a hard time getting into books if they don't grab in instantly. What are some books that got you hooked instantly and it was hard to put it down. I read YA and Adult, but I stay away from a lot of spice. I'm open to all genres!

Any suggestions?

I know everyone's seen the movie but I highly recommend you read the book. There was sooo much more action and deeper problems than the movie was able to show! Please tell me someone else on here can talk about it with me...

What book was so exciting/amazing (fiction or nonfiction) that you couldn't put it down and read it through without stopping? Also, why?

Just read Andy Wier's Hail Mary and I couldn't put it down in a single night.

I'm looking for a book with similar pacing and characterization. Literally from the start till the end of the book I was at the edge of my seat. I loved the investigative quality to the story. I loved how the events came together. I loved the central characters and their flow to the dialogue. Just all around an extremely enjoyable reading experience.

What I'd like to find if anyone here can help me is investigative books with fast pacing with maybe some elements of sci fi and fantasy within them. I want something that is written well but doesn't forget how the experience is supposed to be fun. Maybe this is too specific, but I really enjoy reading experiences littered with discovery that don't come at a cost of great character work and themes.

Thank you in advance!

Edit: Weir not Wier, sorry about that!

Just finished 'Drowning' by Tj Newman and I couldn't put it down.

I saw this book over and over on the end caps of my local book store. Hand written signs were displayed under the hardcover copies saying things like "National Best Seller and my favorite read of 2023 already!" and "I could not stop reading! I needed to know what happened!" Those caught my attention enough for me to pick it up and read the summary. I'm a sucker for any survival type of story and after seeing that this aligned with my interest, I bought it. As soon as I got home, I cracked it open.

From the very first sentence, I was interested. I ripped though chapter after chapter as I felt anxiety building in a way that made me need to know what happened at the end. Once I got to the last sentence on the last page, I looked at my phone and I was surprised to see that several hours have passed without me noticing.

I thought the book was written well and done in a way that was easy to read. I liked the group of characters the author chose and the trajectory of the story. It pulled my emotions in every direction and it really kept me interested. I am no pilot or scuba diver but the writer seemed to do her research and used some accurate information in the story and I thought she did a great job with the ending.

I will not spoil anything about the book but I really enjoyed the read and I would recommend it. I just bought her other book 'Falling' and I am eager to crack that open shortly.

Did yinz enjoy 'Drowning?'

Tell me a book that gripped you from the start and you couldn't put it down

Looking for a book/book series to keep me engrossed for a while. Could be anything from sci Fi to horror to crime novel. A book that keeps me guessing and keeps me captivated throughout so I can't put it down.

I realize it's be difficult to suggest a book for me with so little information so tell me a book that took over your life/you finished in a day/couldn't wait to read the next chapter etc.
