Going to get mine this afternoon. I haven’t been to Costco since we did a panic buy of a ton of emergency stuff in February 2020. Thinking I might give myself a few minutes to poke around since I’ll be wearing my elastomeric mask anyway.

I know, I'm getting mine at Costco and I'm pumped to grab a hot dog on the way out

How was your Costco run?

I found the warehouses to be pretty vacant if you pick off peak times since 2021.

I scheduled my vaccine for late this afternoon.

Pretty good experience getting my shot. I saw more masks than I expected, on both staff and customers. So far only a sore arm as far as side effects.

But I was too overwhelmed to do much shopping. Four years of online shopping seems to have stripped all my patience for snaking my way up and down every aisle looking for deals.

I got a Novovax shot yesterday too and feel fine.

I went to Costco without appointment and was in and out in ~13 minutes. No membership required.

Got mine yesterday, some body aches and sore arm, but 99% better than Moderna or Pfizer that would make bedridden for 24 hours. Highly recommend Novavax!

I am hoping to have your experience and I still cleared my calendar for 48 hrs.

Same here! Even did a flu shot at the same time and was a little tired but fine. I will do mRNA again if I MUST, but really hope novavax and other alternatives stick around ! I was down for 2.5 days after the bivalent last year 😱

[–]a_non_e_mouse_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The 2x OG novovax doses I had were both similar. Felt my flu shot more than my novovax 1st dose last year! Waiting for the booster to be available here where I am.

I got 2 Novavax last year and didn't have any side effects other than sore arm. I just got one at Costco this afternoon.

Took about 15 mins. The pharmacist was wearing a mask and said that they have been getting a lot of calls for Novavax. He said they will keep ordering more if they start to run out. He got covid and was sick for 3 weeks. He also works at a hospital and would get N95 masks fit properly. I saw a few people masked even some employees.

What state if you don't mind?

[–]horse-boy1 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Maryland

[–]ItsJustLittleOldMe 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Thanks

[–]horse-boy1 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Same state that Novavax HQ is in. 😆

[–]ItsJustLittleOldMe 0 points1 point  (5 children)

That's right! I was secretly hoping it was my state, but that's OK. I'm glad you got it. Are you going to get another in 8 weeks or just leave it at one?

[–]horse-boy1 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Can one get a second one? I thought just one. I got the other 2 last year 3 months apart.

[–]ItsJustLittleOldMe 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I see you already had a Novavax primary series last year so you probably don't need a 2nd unless you are immune compromised. Folks that only have mRNA so far... that's another story.

[–]Ollie2Stewart1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m confused here. My understanding was that whatever your previous series was, you can get any of the three brands for this new one—Moderna, Pfizer, or Novavax—but just one is needed.

[–]Mysterious_Foot3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General government recommendation is one shot of Nova, but if immunocompromised or doc recommends can get 2 Novavax spaced about 8 weeks apart. From my knowledge of Novavax though, if this is your first I would recommend getting it as the primary series ( meaning 2 injections spaced 8 weeks apart) to build a good baseline. Novavax keeps building off previous doses, so need a total of three (2 primary plus booster 6-8 months later) for max protection. This link summarizes.

I believe Novavax is following the same as the Moderna/Pfizer model with one dose being all that is necessary. I don't know if Novavax will be announcing an additional dose for those at risk like Moderna/Pfizer did but every time they made that announcement I got another dose.

[–]After_Preference_885 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just got the new pfizer and had no side effects either except a sore arm.

[–]flowing42 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Thanks for the feedback. Going this morning in Massachusetts. Previously received all Pfizer vaccines and the two main side effects were big soreness at the injection site and fatigue the following day.

[–]lws_joinedJune2022 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How did you do with the Novavax shot, in terms of reactions?

[–]flowing42 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I had fatigue on day 2 following the shot. Also joint aches. Ibuprofen helped. Day 3 fatigue again, joints better. Day 4 back to normal.

[–]ktpr 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Do you have to be a costco member and do they let you in without a card if you say you’re going to the pharmacy? I scheduled an Novavax appointment but am not a Costco member

[–]samkswift 11 points12 points  (1 child)

No, if the person at the door asks for your card, tell them you're going to the pharmacy. Worst case, have your appointment confirmation email on your phone.

[–]ktpr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, very good to know. Me and my partner thank you!

[–]Hour_Development9081 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Besides Costco, can folks share where they got theirs?

[–]mcnullt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It stinks it's so not organized, but you just have to call around

Some CVS, Rite Aid Walgreens, indies

[–]khakigirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine at CVS today. It was at CVS in a Target location. My husband called ahead of time and specifically asked for Novavax and they scheduled us over the phone. When we arrived, the pharmacist said we were the first ones who had asked for it and that they've only received 10 doses of it so far.

[–]waystonebb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience.

I had 102 fevers with muscle aches and chills and very fatigued after each MRNA vaccine.

I got the Novavax 30 hours ago. I just have a mildly sore arm and then this afternoon had a mild/moderate head ache. I was thrilled with that compared to how I reacted to the MRNA shots

[–]TasteNegative2267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the studies i've seen say it has less side effects on average, and I think it was by a decent amount. Everyone is different though so some people get worse ones.

[–]Feelsliketeenspirit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband had the same experience! Well he didn't get og Moderna. The first moderna he got was the bivalent last year and he was out of commission for 24-36 hours.

[–]ProfessionalOk112Epidemiologist 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I got mine yesterday too, and my flu shot. I have a minor headache but nothing too bad. Last year I had awful fever and chills when I got my booster + flu shot together (though within ~36 hours of being vaccinated I was back to normal)

[–]SHC606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was knocked out w/ rigors after the flu/shingles(1st dose) combo back in September.

[–]Inevitable-Ranger395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a similar experience. Got my flu shot too and expected to be completely wiped out today. I was a bit tired last night but I feel perfectly fine today.

[–]mosuscpe24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im so happy for you! Mine is scheduled next week. I'm really curious because Moderna gave me horrible side effects like you listed. The swollen lymph nodes were pretty gnarly. Hoping I have the same outcome!

[–]valuemeal2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We wanted novavax but I kept not being able to find any appointments, so we kept our appt for Moderna this afternoon. My arm is killing me and my skin hurts and I’m fatigued, definitely not feeling great. Blah.

[–]eearthchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just shared this in another comment for anyone looking for Novavax! https://reddit.com/r/ZeroCovidCommunity/s/nbtUki9zaI

[–]Hour_Development9081 0 points1 point  (8 children)

I thought you weren't allowed to get the Novavax booster if you got the mRNA primary series?

[–]Wellslapmesilly 14 points15 points  (1 child)

You can now.

[–]Hour_Development9081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. Thanks.

[–]the_pb_and_jellyfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the US it just changed about a week ago. Anyone 12+ who hasn't had another booster within the last 2 months.

[–]replicantcase 2 points3 points  (4 children)

You can, but not if you received the very recent booster.

[–]Hour_Development9081 3 points4 points  (3 children)

You mean the new updated booster than came out a few weeks ago?

[–]replicantcase 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yes.

[–]SHC606 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yep. I've been waiting for Novavax after our Moderna appointments were cancelled b/c the pharmacy didn't have their shipments when it was initially available last month.

[–]replicantcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm getting mine today, woot!

[–]MyIronThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just confirming the above: Got my Novavax xbb booster yesterday. Zero side effects other than a sore arm, and it is nowhere near Moderna sore.

With Moderna and Pfizer, I was down and out for two days with fever, chills, headache, and spent a day or two in bed. I worked all day today post booster.
