Is the scheduled time for a movie at a theater the exact time a movie starts to run? Or is it actually the start time for commercials and trailers?

Been wondering because I went to rush to watch the new Ghostbusters running ASAP to the theater today and it turned out when I made on time a bunch of trailers were running. Like I felt that all that sprinting meant nothing because the trailers rand for like 7 mins.

Was this just my local movie theaters or does the movie not actually run at the stated scheduled times?

We always talk about toxic fanbases like Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc. But which is the healthiest fanbase you have come across? It's true that to a certain degree all fandoms have some sort of toxicity, but what are the more tolerables you can think?

…because some chaos agent over at This Had Oscar Buzz forced them to cover Sia’s nonexistent 2021 autism film, MUSIC, which is about as rude a thing as one could do to a podcast that they allegedly like!

Instead we just have Ben’s Choice and the occasional wackadoo film in a director’s filmography.

Does the current state you’re in matter when watching a great movie? Or will the movie impact you regardless?

I was thinking recently of how personal states of being can affect the experience of a movie.

If you’re feeling tired, not necessarily physically, but psychologically, apathetic and uninspired and quite zoned out from yourself, would a movie have the same impact, would it touch you more, or would you be cold to it?

Same is to a state of terror, you’re hung up on something or you’re very concentrated on something that doesn’t bring you joy, can you still experience the movie as an experience of wisdom and truth or will it impact your own feelings towards it?

Do you think a truly great movie will impact you nonetheless and you shouldn’t care about your state, no matter how bad it is, before you put it on?

For me it has to be when the hot needle test worked in The Thing. The movie gets you to think that the hot needle test won't work with The Thing's tissue. But then, he gets to the final piece of tissue, you end up thinking that it won't work as the others think the hot needle won't work and you think he would have found it now. But then, it works and the tissue begins to wack out before transforming into a disgusting looking monsters.

What's your opinion.

Late Night With the Devil, the movie part

Late Night With the Devil, the movie part

How about some discussion of the film itself, beyond the AI controversy? I understand that some folks have very strong feelings about any known use of AI and those feelings are valid. Knowing that no one will change their mind about that issue, anyone want to talk about the rest of the movie?

(For anyone who didn't know, some of the still images used by the talk show for its ad break bumpers were developed with an AI tool.)

I loved the practical effects used for the gore. I wasn't expecting so many quality kills. The builds for them were great. The first bit of chicanery (iirc) was the floating chair, which they shot from an angle that plausibly made it look like stage craft and wires in the reality of the movie. Then it progresses to the mannequins with misplaced extremities and dummy heads with unexpected contents.

That aspect felt like a love letter to the 1980's horror scenes that I hid my face from before discovering how cheesy they looked after a couple of seconds.

The film reminded me of the really good episodes of Tales from the Crypt. The viewer knows what kind of show they are watching, so the ending is a given. It's a clever premise though that sticks to the adage of "difficulty at a five, execution at a ten."

Quick shots of newspapers and subliminal cuts signal that the film was made with re-watchability in mind. The story and presentation were good enough for me to purchase this when it's available, so that's an added bonus.

Dave Dastmalchian is excellent. The actor playing the producer looks like a time traveling Charles Fleischer. And the actor playing the talk show's band leader reminded me of Paul F Tompkins so much that he will now be Paul F Notkins in my mind.

Is there a discussion to be had about the movie itself? I'm excited to see what else this crew can do.

Mine is from Steve Martin’s first film, “The Jerk.” He is working the guess your weight stand, and doesn’t think he is doing well. The manager explains how the game makes money, and Steve exclaims “It’s a profit game!” It is shocking how often I say “It’s a profit game.” Why does this freemium game on my phone have a level so hard you have to buy something to advance: “It’s a profit game!” How did Notre Dame get such a prominent bowl game with an 8-4 record! “It’s a profit game!” This throw away line in a movie has helped me explain so much.

A unique movie that is similar to Fight Club?

Fight Club is the most unique film that I have ever seen.

I like characters that I can relate to simply because they have flaws but still have empathy and try to do good things.the movie has a beautiful romance and doesn't care about morals. Also, movies have an excellent plot and combine everything from action to psychology.

Movies and TV series that feel the same: American beauty,The matrix, The big lebowski, falling down, Mr. Robot(Tv series) , Wilfred(Tv series) , American psycho, blade runner, Fargo(Tv series), taxi driver,The boy(Tv series), Love exposure, beautiful mind, evagelion of genesis(Anime),Bill murray movie ...

What horror film has the best final 20 minutes?

My favorite is Friday the 13th part 2. Awesome final girl, Jason looks scary as f*ck with that bag (or whatever it is) over his face. Second is the original Halloween. I guess I like that era of horror.

Not necessarily the first movie you ever watched, but what is a movie where your parent(s) were like "you've never seen this? it's a classic, let's watch it." The first movie I remember my dad going out of his way to get me to watch was 1941 by Steven Spielberg

What movie are you showing a friend in order to freak them out?

You have a friend that wants to get into horror, but instead of showing them some lame and tame movie to “ease them in” you decide to show them something that will utterly terrify and haunt them for the rest of the week. What’s it gonna be? I’ll go with Dead Alive (1992).

My favourite horror movie I can't mention here apparently so my favourite franchise is Saw. I don't want to know if you think that's outrageous I just want people to talk me what their favourite horror film or franchise is and that's all. I like discussing horror films. Please be nice to me.
