TIL the Treaty of Versailles signed in 1919 to end the First World War included a convention establishing concert pitch as A = 435 Hz

that's a ceremonial hashpipe from Morocco, it's not a big deal

Players who are elite at an obscure skill?

Nobody split a double like prime DWade, he was a goddamn ninja. His pump fake was wild too actually, completely forgot how good he was at getting people to bite.

I stole so many little tricks of his when I was growing up. He was also a master of the eurostep and made me realize my ball placement on my eurostep sucked. You pull the ball low against tall players, high against short players.

Who is the player you can’t believe is as good as they became?

This is a great one. Even if you believed in him after he became a national star at Davidson, which a lot of us did, he was so plagued by those ankle injuries his first few years.

You could see glimpses when he made it onto the court but man, for a while there, I thought he was going to wash out just from all the ankle injuries. He did a great job gradually adding muscle and I think that has helped his game but also with those early ankle woes.

Special counsel Jack Smith appeals ruling tossing Trump's classified documents case

How hard is it for these children to be human beings and accept responsibility for their actions? Yet somehow this pigdeon-head continuously escapes karma. And if this smoothbrained idiot can "get away" with it than what is the point of any of it?

It's really just sad and depressing. These are the dredge of society and the sooner people realize it the better.

Mystery heroes is insanely good right now and here's why

Me too, MH is at it's best when both teams have weird comps but the skill to make them work. I feel like that mode, if you play to win, forces more teamwork.

What's up with the abundance of Clash recently?

Backfilling flashpoint after flashpoint as a solo queuer is a stage of hell. I will just leave the games at a certain point because they are not fun to me even when I'm winning.

The fact all the maps are flashpoint/clash these days and the game is just moving towards a dumb FPS makes me feel it's time to bail on OW. I crave those fun matches where everyone in working together but they are so hard to come by these days.

How big a red flag is it for a company not to use version control in 2024?

Yes, people in that comment thread are implying all they have to do is run git init and call it a day. No, you have to completely shift the process of "development" in that company, enforce new standards/practices, re-educate developers, etc etc.

If that's the red flag, imagine the nuclear wasteland buried beneath.

I am blown away by the replies in that thread. The fact people are telling OP to join a company without version control because they can add it as a junior in 2024 is insane.

What makes you main Ana?

I liked her high skill cap and versatility when I started playing years ago, but now I keep coming back to teach these young DPS players a lesson. Nothing beats turning the tables on a flanker and if you got the combos down, they die so fast, and it feels so mean.

What’s with Ana’s wanting to Nano Mercy so bad?

It totally is, valk/nano on a Mercy that knows what she's doing opens up so many opportunities. Assuming no Echo, a valk Mercy can basically zoom right up to and behind a Widow and execute her easy. People play her like a healbot but you can be dangerous and a healbot.

It's also a nice reward for those unsung Mercy's who are impossible to hit and are clean with the pistol. I love getting nano'd when I play Mercy. When I play Ana I will try to just observe how they play and decide whether they should get it or not.

And frankly, sometimes there are no good nano targets on a team, and a Mercy who knows how to battle will scare the ever loving shit out of the other team long enough to make a solid push.

Who are the heroes you see the least in your games?

Just adding to the other poster's great tips. You really want to play Brig as kind of a middleman between your tank and backline. Keep an eye on both but focus mostly on your backline. I like to be proactive and bully the fuck out of anyone who enters that middle area, and check flank routes with my team still in view. Never go past your tank unless it's a stomp and you just popped ult and always try to stay around your slowest teammate because they are the enemy target. Use your shield when needed to mitigate damage, but I think most great Brigs use it to get better positioning.

The area between the tank and your furthest teammate should be an area you should dominate, so if it's huge, Brig might not be a great choice. As another poster pointed out, Brig needs natural cover so maps with hallways/linear paths and lots of corners are her shit. Open maps, not so much.

Brig is super fun once she clicks for you because you can really unleash hell on the opposing DPS and win team fights, if you can stay alive and keep your team up.

Who are the heroes you see the least in your games?

Everyone has had a DVa in their game who plays 100 yards away in the backline like she's a sniper. Or the DVa who doesn't know defense matrix exists. Or the DVa who holds their ult for 10 minutes waiting for the perfect moment to get POTG.

There are braindead DVas who add nothing to their team for sure. But to actually win it requires a brain, unless the other team plays braindead into DVa bombs. When I'm playing DVa at my best, I'm flying all over the fucking place and I'm okay at DVa. I don't think any of the tanks can be played in a braindead way TBH. You have to do so much now with 5.

I make decent money but I'm not sure I will ever buy it again after last year. All it takes is an early season injury and it feels like $500 dollars wasted. Plus, you have to be a YoutubeTV subscriber which is expensive as fuck for a bunch of channels that play more ads than actual content. You don't even get Youtube Premium with YoutubeTV which is ... insane to me.

People need to stop saying this. It's a recipe for your society to collapse and brain-drain. If you want to rule over ashes, yeah, great idea. Dictators enjoy great food, art, and medicine too.
