I still think there would have been a way to justify the Arya thing better - the whole “all men must die” and “faceless training” bits could have been a fun way to play around with the idea that the Nightlord perceives Arya as dead. It’d be a good way to show the more supernatural side of the setting and show how foreign beliefs intervene, much like the shadow assassin.

Tournament advice

Still pretty novice myself, but general consensus is:

  • 1 unit of Yaegirs for screening. They exist purely so you can scout with something and have some board control.

  • 1 (split) unit of hearthkin to sticky objectives and then die

  • 2 units of pioneers either run them as a block or as two groups of three. They exist to cap points, ping some damage, and then get off the board so they can come back in later

  • As many sagitaurs as you can. This is pretty boring - but most lists see at least 3. The guy who came in third at the Australian open ran 5.

  • Beserks are showing pretty well. Votann meta seems to be shifting to "I'm going to die pretty quick, so I'm gonna rush objectives and suicide as many things as possible." Beserks in Sagitaurs are fun

  • Hearthguard are the other staples. Most people will run at least 10. You can either use them to deep strike with a Kahl (they'll kill what they need to kill and then die afterwards) or run them in blocks of 5 in Hekatons with E-Champs for charging.

  • If you're going to bring Hekatons, either don't bring any or bring at least two.

Here's the winner of Sweeden's grand tournament a few months ago - he drops the Sagitaurs for more Hekatons and brings some Thunderkyn to do the meta favoring vehicles

Getting there on the first Yaegir. Spent most of today working out how to paint a Halo plasma sword blade. I think it looks alright atm. Cs&Cs welcomed please ^,..,^

It looks incredible - how did you get the texture in the first place?

A couple of questions about KT 2024

  1. We're getting free online rules for all the existing armies - I can't imagine that will continue with new armies

  2. Obscuring is getting clarified which fixes most of the LoS debates. Still expect arguments though

  3. Kill team matches at tournament level are budgeted two hours (and that's generous). I'd expect slightly faster play time given the objectives have been slimmed down to only three and the setup is going to be a bit faster.

  4. Check Wahapedia - that's going to be your best bet.

What are some of the biggest/most shocking retcons to lore?

Cormag778
replied to r3dl3g

I respectfully disagree here - while you’re right that this isn’t technically a retcon because lore in 40k is almost always presented as an in-universe myth, I’d argue that since it was the only lore regarding this for 30 years - it’s a cold comfort to people who joined a faction specifically because they love that moment. The narrative of the noble hero who knows they’re going to their death but sacrifices himself to put a small chink in the armor of the enemy that ultimately allows humanity to survive another day is one of the central narratives of 40k - and it’s a shame that it’s disregarded both narratively (it limits a lot of what makes Sanguinius so likeable) and hurts a lot of BA fans who joined because of that.

I’d be equally upset if we found out, I don’t know, Slaanesh wasn’t made from the cumulative excess of the Eldar but by a botched ritual or if the Ahriman books had revealed that the Rubric failed because he had a wrong copy of Magnus’s book.

Neither would be strictly retcons, but it would still feel dirty to those fans.
