First off, febreze is a terrible idea. Please don’t put that on your dog.
You can try to wrap the leg in plastic while you shampoo your dog (with an appropriate shampoo formulated for dogs) and use a hose and/or bucket for gentle rinsing.
There are also dry shampoos made for dogs if the hose isn’t an option.

I hate this generalization. I know it’s not the point you’re making, but the whole thing with doctors not taking women seriously is at epidemic levels. And then we hear things like this article about Xist and it all makes sense: maybe women are always “nagging” and “complaining” to doctors about things because we are having medical problems that doctors refuse to take seriously.
