Republican policies always target racial minorities. They do not care about collateral damage. The cruelty is the point. Assuming all racial minorities are poor (which is BS anyway), they make sure anyone who is poor is fucked. Then their base votes for them like lemmings, even while said voters actually constitute the largest impoverished demographic.

Low taxes? Defund public schools to hurt poor minorities.

Guns? Shoot minorities ("criminals")

Abortion? Make sure that poor single mother, assumed to be a racial minority, is screwed when she realizes she cannot raise her child.

Of course none of these complex issues are understood at any deep level, most of the assumpions are dead wrong.

The cruelty is the point. Racism is the core.

If you land in Missouri, you get hot and sweaty, cold and miserable, tornados and lightning, and sunny weather all in the same day.

This has literally happened here. We watched slackjawed on a sunny day as the temperature dropped 80F over the span of three hours, spawning tornadoes.

I know these requirements quite well. Regulations require heating that can maintain 68F in the apartment, however there is no regulation in Columbia requiring AC.

Your recourse is either spelled out in the lease (language that requires the lanlord to keep the building in repair) and a complaint to Neighborhood services.

Landlords might jump if Neighborhood Services gets excited.

Your other recourse is to argue the landlord has broken the lease. This might easily backfire and result in a lawsuit against you unless you have a lawyer. A nastygram from a lawyer certainly focuses the attention of a lazy landlord.

How are the bugs?!

Just got back from Lake One. Seemed normal, bugs were nonexistent during the day, mozzies attack in great swarms at sundown, then are gone by midnight and easy in the morning. I brought Permethrin treated clothing, re-treated my hats with permethrin frequently (figuring the fresh stuff works better) and used DEET on my hat, collar, and shirtsleeves, not soaking in it just a few spritzes.

I tried some of the new IR3535 bug repellant I saw in sale at Zup's. It's great stuff, however someone needs to send a memo to the Mozzies that they need to stay away from it, they haven't seen that memo yet. I threw that shit out and brought DEET when I went to the wilds.

Solo canoes, I always bring a kayak paddle (and a spare kayak paddle) I don't even bring a spare single blade any more.

For a tandem canoe, I have a kayak paddle that breaks down and has an extra handle that makes one of the blades into a single blade paddle (I made this by sawing off an old aluminum paddle handle and modifying it). I can switch from single blade to kayak style when the wind starts howling in your face and you need some real power.

My double bladed paddle gets me wet all the time, so here's a solution (if you don't have a super-long paddle, which helps the drip situation). Of course I have drip rings on the paddle, but they don't do enough.

I have a rhythm of two strokes on one side, then as I draw my paddle out of the water I give it a little flick, then two strokes on the other side. Any motion of the paddle, rolling the pole in my fingers, or a little wave, it doesn't take much to make it all drip off. No drips at all. I learned this from a guy who said he saw some athlete doing this somewhere. The trick is, to not take much time for this little flick - just a light twist of the paddle, using as little force and time as possible.

In heavy headwinds, the kayak paddle really shines, but also the wind flicks those drips away, so I can just alternate strokes and not get soaking wet. In a cold September trip, when getting wet was deadly, I wore rain pants to kayak in. In super hot weather, getting wet is welcome and I drip all over myself on purpose.

Sure, the two strokes on each side cause you to zig zag a little, but being soaking wet all the time irritates me no end, it's bad enough your feet are always wet in the BW, from canoe entering, but for me having all my clothes wet all the time just feels yucky. Two strokes, a little flick, then two strokes.
