E-shop refund policy is abysmal
E-shop refund policy is abysmal

Today I received my first and only refund from Nintendo for The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt on Switch. I purchased it while it was on sale - I love the game on PC and various other consoles and I knew the Switch version would be lower quality but hey, I figured the portability would be worth it

Personally, I felt burned by the purchase - and to each their own, I see others have enjoyed it.

I played it for maybe 45 minutes before deciding I NEEDED a refund. I wasn't going to play this again in this capacity.

So I called Nintendo. I explained the situation then was transferred as the first rep said they have a no refund policy and she couldn't help me (she was super nice, and please, always treat customer service staff with respect). She willingly transferred me to someone else, I didn't even have to ask.

This second person reiterated the same thing then said "everyone does get ONE though, so if you want, I can process this refund for you". To which I was fine with - even though it was on sale and I only get "one" I knew I wasn't going to play this game again on Switch.

But that brings me to my main point, how can a company have a "one time exemption" when it comes to digital purchases? Every other platform: Steam, Xbox, and PS, have reasonable refund policies - meanwhile Nintendo has this ridiculous, barbaric, outdated policy. I've played countless games on Switch, never had to request a refund before and God forbid I ask for a second one 5 years from now, you're telling me I won't be able to get one? Gtfo. That policy needs to change.

Edit: I assumed PS worked in a similar fashion as Steam and Xbox, my mistake. PS seems to have an absurd (imo) refund policy as well. For PS the game must be purchased within the last 14 days and must not have started downloading or steaming it.

Edit: people are getting upset for my take on The Witcher 3 on Switch. Sorry if my opinion on this differs from yours or offends you. With that said, this post is about the refund policy being terrible as a whole - not about my take on the game.
