Call of Duty: Warzone is the series’ latest take on battle royale. It will be a completely free game, but the practical details of how to download the game can be little confusing. After all, it has two different release times, and players who own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will have a different download process from players who don’t.

To help you get ready for the release of Call of Duty: Warzone, we’ve got everything you need to know about when the game comes out, and how you can download it.

When does Call of Duty: Warzone come out?

Call of Duty: Warzone has two different release times. If you already own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, you can start downloading Warzone at 11 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, March 10. If you don’t already have Modern Warfare, you can start the Warzone download at 3 p.m. EDT that same day.

As for the other time zones, Activision has provided a very helpful map — all of the times here are for players that don’t own Modern Warfare.

How to download Call of Duty: Warzone if you already have Modern Warfare

For Modern Warfare owners, Warzone will be simple to download. To make things easy, it will replace the Classified panel in the in-game menu. If you have the latest patch installed, Warzone will download somewhere between 18 GB and 22 GB of addition data. If you don’t have the title update installed, it will be closer to 80 GB. Once the download is complete, the panel that says “Classified” will say Warzone.

If you own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on a disc and you don’t have the disc anymore, you can just delete your previous copy of Modern Warfare, and download Warzone from your chosen platform’s first-party store. All of your progress from Modern Warfare will carry over, according to Activision.

If you don’t already have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, it won’t be hard to get Warzone. All you’ll need to do is go to your chosen platform’s first-party store — the PlayStation Store on PS4, the Xbox Store on Xbox One, or Battle.net on PC. From there, search for Call of Duty: Warzone and start your download.

The game is going to be between 83 GB and 101 GB, according to Activision, so the download may take some time. Thankfully, the developers have thought ahead and packed in something to do while you wait. The first 20 GB of the Warzone download includes Modern Warfare’s Gunfight mode, which will let you face off against bots in an offline setting. This will give you the chance to practice your aim before you jump into Warzone’s competitive battle royale when the full download finishes.
