As for the poles yeah that will piss some off.  But having lived on the east coast, it sucks, but they are needed unless we bury the lines.   You aren't going to make everyone happy.   

Almost every problem we.see with this is because Houston/Center point waited entirely to long to upgrade and fix their problems rather than pocket the money or hide from them.

Same issue with the road infrastructure here.   Politicians pocket the money, give it to their friends, or hide from the problems by doing what was proven 40 years ago bot to work.  Or they continue building off the old infrastructure that wasn't thought out even for the time it was installed.   There is absolutely no reason for a city this spread out to have the commute times it has other than they never took the time to fix the underlying problems and still don't.  It's going to be a pain for everyone but that pain will pass.    Letting it linger just lets it get worse

As for expecting this damage?  The fuck you on, a quick 100mph 2min gust of wind a couple months back put half this many out of power.    At no point did anyone say Houston was clear just that we were going to expect tropical storm instead of a cat one.   Not a direct hit.    

They know how bad their infrastructure is, there is absolutely no excuse for it to be this bad with how much welfare the public has given a private company.   

And then there is the addage, prep for the worst and hope for the best.    We hold every one else to this standard, you better be holding a company who constantly asks for handouts from our tax dollars to the same minimum standard.

Agree capitalism is the cause of a great many injustices and bad social programs.  Greed rules capitalism.at the cost of non rich people.  It's why it failed back during the great depression and why we have a capitalistic social welfare mixed society.    Unfortunately the rich are trying to undo all the good done since the great depression by lying to and tricking conservatives to vote against their best interests
