Bitcoin is the currency of the Internet: a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Unlike traditional currencies such as dollars, bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. As such, it is more resistant to wild inflation and corrupt banks. With Bitcoin, you can be your own bank.

The wealthy are still clueless about the value of bitcoin and blockchains

"Blockchain technology"

Sorry, but this is usually a term used by people who have some fairly naive understandings of what is going on with bitcoin.

Bitcoin's blockchain only works because of bitcoin itself. Without bitcoin, blockchains are clunky databases for which the only purpose is to take money from the gullible.

iPhone is a nono. The device still controls the user too much for my liking. I think it's the tech un-savvy way to degoogle. And I don't want to admit failure like that :P

Traumatized from trying to degoogle phone.

Thank you! I have since discovered this myself, as about 12 hours into it, the option OEM unlocking became available. I've since managed to get LineageOS installed. I feel pretty google free now.

One thing worth noting - No one ever mentioned this time-delay thing in all my research! Not a single guide anywhere online mentions anything about a possible time delay!

Grateful - finally got Lineage installed. Now...

Yes, I am trying to install f-droid. Doing it following the guide is not working for me. Do you have a suggestion?

edit: I am installing this https://f-droid.org/packages/org.fdroid.fdroid.privileged.ota/

It is a zip that I just install in TWRP - it always looks like it is going to work but when I boot into Lineage for the first time, it's never there.

I did that and got the unlock code: It didn't work because terminal responds with: "(bootloader) Check 'Allow OEM Unlock' in Android Settings" when given command: fastbook oem unlock "unlock code string"

Unbelievable frustration trying to install LineageOS

Ok, this is completely new information to me, and thank you for responding.

Do you think if I keep a hold of my motorola for a few days that OEM unlocking will become possible?

edit: after 6 hours, it became possible. I had not done anything.

Go to the Motorola developer website to get a bootloader unl....

Been there. The guide on the LineageOS wiki needs me to enable OEM unlocking before that. None the less I went through all that part of the guide anyway.

Perhaps I'm not understanding, but if I go through the steps you have just mentioned, once I type in to terminal 'fastboot oem unlock "unlock code" i get the response: "(bootloader) Check 'Allow OEM Unlock' in Android Settings"

The issue remains: I need to be able to unlock OEM on the phone itself do I not?

Unbelievable frustration trying to install LineageOS

Here is my incredibly frustrating experience so far.

I buy a google pixel 3 off amazon. Allegedly factory new and unlocked. It arrives and the OEM unlock option is greyed out. I follow every guide online to try and find a way around this. Nothing works. It apparently isn't "really" factory unlocked.

I post in r/LineageOS asking for help. Post gets deleted for mentioning an unsupported device.

So I return the phone to the amazon seller and buy an earlier model of the google pixel that IS officially supported just so that I might be able to ask for help in this subreddit. The phone arrives 2 weeks later, along with the same problem. OEM unlock is greyed out and nothing I try works.

I ask for help in the sub, the post never gets approved by a mod. 3 days later a mod messages me saying "sorry we didn't notice your post. it's approved now but no one will see it because it's too old. maybe post it again." But I have already sent the phone back by then assuming that it is not really unlocked once again.

I decide that this is what I must do: buy a phone that is actually on the supported devices list FROM THE MANUFACTURER.

Now: This is no small task. Almost every single device on that list is no longer in production by the relevant company. The venn diagram would barely overlap between what they currently produce and what is old enough to be officially supported by lineage.

Google no longer manufacture the older pixels, and if I buy them from third parties they are never really unlocked.

Anyway, I go into a thread on the sub about what phones are the most easy to install Lineage on to - OnePlus 5t pro is recommended over and over again. I buy one - again though - no longer manufactured by OnePlus, so I buy it third party through amazon.

I wait an entire month (!) for the phone to arrive. It doesn't, so I request a refund. It is granted, along with a message blaming coronavirus for the "delay". (This phone may arrive some day I guess though I have yet to see it.)

So then I think - "Ok, surely this shouldn't be as difficult as all this, lots of people have done this in the past."

I finally find a phone I want that is officially supported that I can buy from the manufacturer: the motorola Moto g7.

This is exciting - I have used motorolas in the past and had really good experiences with them.

I order it, it comes 2 weeks later. I do the following:

Turn on phone - skip through all the steps - settings - about phone - bottom option 7 times - developer mode enabled - go in to developer options.........oem unlocking = STILL GREYED OUT.

I phone up motorola, they say they do not support what I am trying to do, and that I have invalidated the warranty on the phone by even trying.

So there we are. A useless, overzealously modded subreddit where I can't get any help, and a sense of extreme frustration trying to get a phone that isn't me carrying around google with me everywhere I go.

If anyone can give me a practical solution to having a phone with an opensource OS on it where I can install f-droid I would be seriously grateful.

Yours, hair-tearing-outly:

Whatever, I return phone number two because I assume that it is still somehow not really unlocked.

Wow you got a lot of responses. Didn't anyone think to mention that it's kind of silly to say bitcoin went down in terms of USD, but the USD didn't go down in terms of USD?

You can upgrade bitcoin any time you like. If everyone else decides to in the same way at the same time then you are very likely to have this new thing that you've all created be called 'bitcoin'.
