Hilton/Marriott Gold Status Question by M_Weber in amex

[–]Suprman37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you book a Hilton room anywhere except through Hilton directly, you will NOT receive status benefits, Gold, Diamond, or otherwise.

This isn't true. Every time I book FHR I also get the Hilton Diamond food credits. It's been this way for at least three years and my last booking was Feb 2023.

What's a topic that Redditors actually know little to nothing about? by NuclearWinterGames in AskReddit

That sub is trash and has always been trash. We make fun of it all the time on /r/lawyers, where we all have war stories about the place.

I remember.once a long time ago how I got downvoted into oblivion there for going against the grain and telling a poster, who was alleging sexual harassment at a place with 11 employees (weird that they specified the number of employees in the post, but I have my thoughts on it) not to bother calling the EEOC and contact her state agency.

The law. I'm a lawyer and the "legal advice" that pops up on this site is unbelievably bad. People get educated based on TV shows and speak with way too much authority on things they don't know about.

Judicial Immunity by Gsogso123 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Suprman37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Judges have something much stronger than qualified immunity. Judges have absolute immunity for actions taken in their role as a judge. This doesn't include administrative duties, though. So if a judge fired you (the communal "you") for being black, the judge could be held accountable. If the judge sentenced you harsher for being black, that may be overturned but the judge could not help accountable.

So, you're thinking of going for a Southwest Companion Pass? 2023 award flight challenges by potnia_theron in awardtravel

[–]Suprman37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a companion pass at the beginning of 2022 for the wife. When it ends this year, we'll probably be done with Southwest. Too many flight delays/cancellations. Although they end up giving us vouchers, we just have to deal with more issues. On top of that, the value isn't always there, even with the companion pass.

Why are lethal dogs an exception to "can't booby trap your house" laws? by wyldcraft in Ask_Lawyers

Dogs can differentiate between welcome and unwelcome guests. Booby traps can't.

Effectiveness of using lounges before a flight? by [deleted] in amex

I've never actually seen the Swissport lounge at ORD without the sign that says priority pass members can't enter.

Boston Marathon runner takes a shit in OP's yard. r/Boston defends the marathon runner, while others think it's bizarre that they're taking the runner's side. by yenvyma in SubredditDrama

Running loosens up your stool, so it's fairly common for marathon runners to have to stop part way through or shit themselves.

Tennessee’s elementary school shooting today brings us up to 130 mass shooting events in 2023 alone. by shah_mazing in awfuleverything

I don't quite understand what you mean. No one in this thread is saying that the gun culture, or the racial hierarchy that it enforces, is good.

I'm just sitting here in Europe wondering what is the number you guys have to reach that will make you say "ok that's it we banning guns"

Minorities arming themselves very publicly in mass. As a non-American, you will not understand how much of the gun culture is tied to the racial hierarchy in the US. When the American conscious wasn't irrevocably shocked by a bunch of dead white first graders, I realized that there would be no other line.

New Mexico governor signs bill ending juvenile life sentences without parole by Newgripper1221 in politics

[–]Suprman37 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yes, it would have just been a formality. You know why? Because if it wasn't there from 1849, the legislature would have just passed a new one as restrictive in 2022.

It's more of a formality. The US Supreme Court has already stated that it's unconstitutional to give a kid life without parole.

Serving on that jury really broke my heart and made me lose a lot of respect for people

That's unfortunate because what you experienced with that jury is exactly what the jury system is for. It's not supposed to be some factory where if you put in A then you get B. It's intended to be a system of peers with different perspectives deliberating based upon those perspectives. The way this reads is you really didn't want a jury system, but instead you as a sole decision maker along with a few clones.

Resisting arrest? by cyenobite in Ask_Lawyers

[–]Suprman37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It varies by state, but in my jurisdiction, running from the cop (active) and not putting your legs in the cop car so the cop can close the door after you're cuffed (passive) are both resisting.

Some states have a resisting arrest without violence charge for passive resistance.
