Should IFV’s do damage to the body of a tank? Isn’t a tanks body just a mt lb?

Even in the pretty well-known clip of two Ukrainian Bradleys disabling a Russian T-90. they don't actually kill it. While a Bradley's 25mm, not 30mm, you can see how many rounds they pelt it with. We don't know the details, but it looked like the best they managed was knocking out optics and maybe some sort of steering component.

That was enough to make the crew bail. It looks like they got out alive despite the hull being pelted by constant autocannon fire, indicating the hull did its job. Only reason that tank is dead right now is because an FPV drone followed up after, not because of autocannon fire.

Here's a comparison of the two vehicles in question so you can see what's going on. Click the links to see what I'm talking about:

An MT-LB has 1,000HP and about 9-10mm of armor. 14mm best case scenario.

A T-72 generally has 80mm of armor on most sides, but 200mm on the front that is slanted to give most rounds 400-600mm of armor to get through. And even if you get through all that armor, you've still got 3,000HP to chew through.

In a worst case scenario, we're talking 40x the armor here. Best case it's still 8x the armor. These vehicles are complete worlds apart when it comes to durability.

fps arent very stable

Some people just have a lower tolerance for that sort of thing than you do.

For some people 40-70fps is perfectly playable. For others that's going to feel terrible. I can tell when my frametimes aren't consistent at 120fps and it bothers me, meanwhile I have a friend who can't even tell the difference between 30 and 60fps.

What is your squad moment that you’ll never forget?

MrDrumline
commented

Al Basrah Invasion, the one that starts on the south end. Playing SL on defense. We barely manage to wipe the initial push's spawns. Their LAVs had fucked up all of our armor and were making it impossible to fight. So by no means a done deal; if they got any foothold again it was probably over.

Knowing this, I pull one of my guys to the east side of the river and drop a .50cal on a roof. Not facing west towards where all the action is and where the enemies are coming from, but east towards absolutely fuck-all at the map border. The guy I pulled to man it was a little new to the game, but (justifiably) speaks up:

"Hey, this is facing the wrong way, I can't see anybody."

"Nope, it's the right way. Trust me."

Not a minute later I hear an enemy heli flying fast and low, pulling a J-hook east of the river. Only thing I can hear after that is distant .50cal fire, an explosion, and my gunner on the radio yelling "OH MY GOD IT WAS FULL OF GUYS THEY'RE ALL DEAD AHAHAHAHA!"

Hope it was a good memory for that guy too.

New poll up let's gooooo

Frame generation compensates for CPU bottlenecks. If the CPU is working its ass off and the GPU is just chilling, you may as well put that GPU to work generating frames.

DLSS and FSR3 would go a long way to improve performance for those with the hardware to use those features.

I wish I could punish my ai officers.

I did the same thing. Was 2/3rds of the way through when I noticed one of my guys had an M4 in his hands instead of a beanbag. Was like "whatever, I'll go in first and it'll be fine."

It was not fine.

Getting ready to become a squadlead... How tf does RAAS work?

It's not even cheesy now that anybody can get most of that info ingame.

Go to the team select menu and select MODE INFO at the bottom; you'll see a screen that looks suspiciously like squadmaps.com. It displays every possible objective in order. Only thing it doesn't do is rule out caps as you go along, but that's not too tough to do yourself if you already have a cap or two to gauge the way the lane's going (i.e. if the first two go north, the midpoint is usually gonna be north).

You could always use squadmaps as a study tool. Don't use it ingame, but play around with it to get a sense for how things work under the hood.

Yeah, usually it's more of a "shock factor makes more people talk about the game for longer, meaning more publicity" than "people buy the game because of the shock factor."

Digital Foundry has you covered. Looks like a heavily wavering framerate in towns, from 30fps all the way down to 19fps. Away from towns with no NPCs around it holds 30fps more often. Dynamic resolution tries to hit 720p but often drops down to 540p.

Not the greatest experience, but it's impressive this port exists at all. They even managed to keep global illumination and parallax occlusion mapping in, somehow.

Just look at some of these kids...how can they be so dumb? Like what, you seriously can't hula hoop? Jesus Christ. And babies know literally nothing. God damn, kids are so dumb.

Parents: let them learn from their mistakes. Kids: what if we don't make mistakes...

Because they're short sighted. They know they've secured that particular cupboard to the wall so it won't tip over, that means it's totally fine, right?

All the while not considering that there's other furniture elsewhere that's not secured, and now we've taught the kids that climbing on furniture is acceptable behavior.

Why are most players in this game so bad?

Absolutely. Was simply stating the intent of ICO. Getting into the weeds of the actual outcomes is a can of worms being discussed on the wrong subreddit.

Why are most players in this game so bad?

MrDrumline
commented

With RoN it's very easy to join, load up a map, and start murdering shit. There's very few barriers to that kind of play. The community is young and small, and the game only dabbles in multiplayer; new players have very few opportunities to learn from experienced players, unlike your other examples.

Squad's is multiplayer-only and forces players to communicate and work together. The community has spent the better part of almost 10 years teaching new players how to not be complete idiots. And there's still bad players everywhere, with more come out of the woodwork every Steam sale or free weekend. OWI had to overhaul the whole combat system just to get people to slow the fuck down and stick together.

ARMA might not be multiplayer-only, but that community has a long history and the game simply isn't the sort of thing most COD types have the patience for.

Getting very tired of ordering the AI to deploy a flashbang in an area that isn't a door, and all I get in response is blank stares. If they had the VO for it they'd probably be saying "sir, what's a flashbang?"

Kicked out of a Squad replaces your kit with a stupid 1 mag gun

MrDrumline
commented

Getting kicked sucks, but the experience of not being in a squad should suck. The whole point of Squad is to be in a squad, so the recruit kit being worthless is by design; it's only there for self-defense while you find a new squad or step up to lead your own.

If the rifleman kit (one of the most powerful kits in the game) could be accessed without being in a Squad, a whole lot of new players would run around solo and then get frustrated that the game called Squad isn't very fun when they're not in a squad. And then they'll just uninstall when any decent server autokicks them for being squadless.

Other squads being locked is a very different problem which isn't solved by giving squadless players more ammo to run off with.

Players are avoiding MG & AR classes.

MrDrumline
replied to rx149

Even then, if your squad is that coordinated the only thing the bipod does is slow you down.

Mobility is how games are won and lost; every meter gained is one closer to deleting the enemy's spawn. If you're working with good players you'd rather have them up front slaying than sitting back on a rock 50m away just to make some screens blurry.

So even within the 10% of squads that are actually coordinated, there's only ever rare specific strategies where a bipod is truly needed.

MGs going straight to the ceiling is just silly. I get that ICO is for gameplay not realism, but if they really want to make it that inaccurate for gameplay reasons it should have a bunch of side to side sway.

MrDrumline
replied to Patsero

Depends on your setup. DX12 should (in theory) run better and enables upscaling features which helps performance even more, but many people experience stutters or crashes on it. Personally I haven't had a crash on DX12 in months and my game is stable.

Try it for yourself and see how it goes, just know it will stutter a bit initially as the game caches the shaders.

Settings > Graphics > Super Sampling / Upscaling

Under Upscale Method, choose DLSS if you have an NVIDIA GPU or FSR if you're on AMD. Select a mode that gives you good performance without losing too much visual quality.

If these options are greyed out, you'll need to scroll up to the Renderer option and make sure DirectX 12 is selected.

Community Ban List.

MrDrumline
commented

Checked your CBL. You need to get those perms reduced and expired.

Go to ODM and Dead Man's Hand's discords and appeal. Be genuinely apologetic and recognize that whatever you did was wrong. Reassure the admins that you've read their rules and nothing of the sort will happen again.

Don't make excuses or chalk it up to a "bad night." Just apologize.

They'll either reduce/remove the ban, or let it stand if what you did was that bad or your appeal wasn't genuine. The soloing vic/locked squad thing on ODM shouldn't be too tough. Dunno about the toxicity one though, depends on context.

If you have an NVIDIA card give DLSS a shot. Miles better than the default AA. If not, FSR is another option, though it doesn't look as good.
