I'm concerned that we won't open in the Fall

I’d rather still be dealing with it in the fall but fewer people die than be done with it but more people died 🤷🏻‍♀️

What’s your ONE smartest policy or benevolent Jedi mind trick for online classes?

AaahhFakeMonsters
commented

I’ve been making my PowerPoints, but I’ve expanded them so they can be read and understood (more detail than I’d have on the slide if I were doing it in person). Then after each subsection, I embed a video of myself summarizing the most important stuff from that subsection. They’re 3-7 minute videos.

That way students can just watch videos on the topics they struggled with, rather than needing to watch a 55-minute video covering the whole lecture. I’ve spoken to a few overachievers who have finished the work so far, and they have all said they wouldn’t have watched a 55-minute lecture but they did watch at least one of the embedded mini-videos. We’ll see what the rest of the class ends up doing in the upcoming weeks.

It might pass quicker, but with a hell of a lot more deaths and other problems too. You’ve heard of the whole “flattening the curve” goal with hospitalizations, right?

But since we’re not sure if re-infection is possible yet or how immune systems will handle a second exposure, increased exposure now does not at all guarantee that it would burn out. It could just keep burning.

I’ve been looking for one! So far no luck, but a number of people have mentioned places that are giving access to some books legally so I’ll have to check them out.

I’m struggling with it being Kandi. Kandi is shorter and thicker than night angel, though I did hear some resemblance in the voice. But it’s definitely her throwing her voice a little if it’s her.

If you have a job lined up, you need to graduate (you could save walking for the future). If you don’t have a job lined up, you probably shouldn’t be graduating even if there wasn’t a pandemic.

Nope. She doesn’t even name them here because she doesn’t want to deal with the legal issues, since she couldn’t ever prove it (he kind of set the stage to make it look like he was being hacked). The good thing is their mutual friends seem to recognize what this guy did, so hopefully he at least faces social consequences.

Warning on Opposite Gender Names

AaahhFakeMonsters
commented

I have a traditionally female name with a male nickname. Think Alexandra nn Alex or Samantha nn Sam. Even though I put my full first name on everything (because that’s what I go by), I still get called Mr. Nickname Lastname sometimes. Even at the doctors office where my gender is also listed on the form! Some people are just dumb.

Despite what we want to believe, there’s no such thing as a perfect name. Try to consider negatives such as this, but balance that with all the good things you like about a name. You never know what your kid will like or not, so you do have to somewhat think about what you’d like if it was your name. And then there’s also the “grass is greener” phenomenon where no matter what name you give someone they will probably envy at least one thing about someone else’s name.

Here a story about academic jealousy. How a Title IX accusation and ongoing emails from an anonymous sources almost derailed the careers of a Lesbian couple. Reads like a mystery.

I understand why anonymity is useful to encourage people to report, I feel like investigations should require an accuser to be non-anonymous. For other crimes, the accused has the right to confront their accuser. Even if we didn’t have that confrontation occur in a courtroom, or even if the complainant remained anonymous to the accused, the university at the very least should be required to know that the complaint is coming from a real person.

Former producer of RHONJ spills some tea about Melissa and Joe

The conversation was about how Danielle didn’t congratulate Jacqueline about her son’s birth. Then Danielle asked Theresa if she acknowledged (aka said congrats) about HER nephew’s birth. It was an insult to Theresa. If she had knowledge about Joseph not being Joe’s, that wouldn’t have been an insult to Theresa at all.

That’s not a gold digger though. A gold digger gets in relationships just for money. If you just commit crimes for money, you’re just normal greedy (and criminal) but not necessarily a gold digger.

Agree/disagree and why?

I have two students who would fail even if I gave them 100% on everything going forward. I’ve told them that too, but they decided to remain in the course for some reason (probably to receive financial aid, but I can’t drop them so nothing I can do about it). I’d be super annoyed if my university forced me to pass them.
