Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters is leading the state down a dangerous path. Not only has his ineffective leadership decimated the state’s Education Department and its public schools, but his rhetoric makes Oklahoma an unwelcoming home for thousands. Oklahomans deserve leaders who solve problems, not create them. https://lnkd.in/e5Vzk6WC

Systemic discrimination in education, employment, and housing and family rejection leave LGBTQ+ individuals at higher risk of homelessness. We must invest in our communities and address these root causes, not dole out more funding to policing and punishing poverty. We’re proud to join 46 LGBTQ+ advocacy orgs in signing on to Center for Constitutional Rights's amicus brief in #GrantsPassvJohnson. The Supreme Court must rule that criminalizing homelessness constitutes cruel and unusual punishment.

NEW HRC DATA: Over 48% of LGBTQ+ people reported they were financially unwell, with BIPOC and young LGBTQ+ people reporting higher rates of financial instability. This new data provides a snapshot of the financial challenges many in the LGBTQ+ community face and underscores the need for economic empowerment programs, especially younger, BIPOC LGBTQ+ people. https://lnkd.in/esAzkaEt

BREAKING: Uganda’s Constitutional court upheld most of the draconian Anti-Homosexuality Act. This law criminalizes the “promotion of homosexuality” and increases the penalty for “offense of homosexuality” to include longer jail sentences and the death penalty. The Court struck down four provisions of the law including the criminalization of providing housing/lodging to LGBTQ+ people for the “purposes of homosexuality”; the criminalization of same-sex conduct in which one partner has a terminal illness; and the dangerous duty to report those perceived to be LGBTQ+ to authorities. This is an assault on the basic human rights of Ugandans. This law fundamentally changes the way LGBTQ+ Ugandans live. We won’t stop fighting until LGBTQ+ Ugandans are safe and fully protected by the law. https://lnkd.in/ekG8RiYn

For Christiana Hammond and other trans Arizonans, a dangerous anti-trans bill directly jeopardizes their access to the medical care they need by fear-mongering their doctors and providers. Instead of expanding access to health care for everyone in the state, MAGA extremists are bullying the medical community and their trans patients. This is not only vile, but goes against the values of the state.

Auggie attended their first protest when they were 11. Soup was told by a classmate that she was going to hell in sixth grade. Aaron fled the public school system because he was harassed & assaulted. RJ had to leave his home in Florida because it became too dangerous. Trans youth deserve to be what they are: kids. Inflammatory rhetoric and discriminatory legislation hurt trans youth. Leave trans youth ALONE. https://lnkd.in/geeft-zw

“Stories like Nex’s terrify me and other parents loving and supporting our trans kids. We worry about our children’s safety every time they step out the door into a public space, but we also worry about what they encounter when they look at a computer or phone screen.” — Debi Jackson, a member of our Parents for Transgender Equality National Council The responsibility of protecting trans and nonbinary youth from violence and harm does not just fall on their parents. It is ALL of our responsibilities. We must create a culture that celebrates our uniqueness and invites people in rather than pushing them away.
