What electric vehicle are you looking forward to? by StPapaNoel in electricvehicles

[–]Ok_Island_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been driving hybrids since ‘06. I was going to go electric spring of 2021 and get a used bolt then the recall happened and car prices went nuts. I’ve held off buying bc my car is a 2014 Honda Insight but we’ll maintained. I wanted a EV truck but can’t stomach the prices so I pre ordered a ford maverick hybrid truck last sept. Should get it by this September. I may pick up a used bolt or i3 for my personal car once I get the truck for work. I’m interested to see what ev trucks come out in the next few years. I put a $100 deposit on a Canoo truck, not sure if I’ll ever see it though. I want economical EV trucks!

Guys who play sports. Do you feel any physically difference in your 30s or 40s than in your 20s? by ObjectiveExplorer559 in AskMenOver30

[–]Ok_Island_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still play hockey, mid 40’s. I played through college competitively. I’m in pretty good condition, I need to be to be able to enjoy playing. Recovery time is the difficult part now though. I could play everyday in my 20’s, now I need 3 days in between. I’ve had several muscle tears the last few years, hammy in 2019, abdomen last fall, tendonitis and back aches. But I just love being there with the boys. We have a guy who is 73 that skates with us so I’ve got no valid excuses!

How much do you charge to install bidet toilet and to add an outlet? by Stoneheadboner in handyman

I have two in my house, had them installed when we renovated years ago. They are awesome, that being said I wouldn’t take the job bc of the electrical work.

[–]Ok_Island_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a couple pairs of red wings since 2015 (iron rangers and 877’s) and I still don’t know what a shoe tree is. I see it mentioned here but I’ve never looked it up and my boots are broken in and gorgeous.

the ticks i’ve pulled off my kids in the last two months. by N0tAnAli3n in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Ok_Island_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from Massachusetts and the ticks are bad there too. My brother has chickens but he says he can’t let them out anymore bc the hawks pick them off one by one pretty quickly.

Chipotle: shrinking portions. Shrinking Wages. by n00t33th in antiwork

When I started eating chipotle there was only one around me (as far as I know) and it was in Beverly Hills, this was 2004. It was delicious and a great value and I didn’t get diarrhea from it. What a time.

Just to clarify: You’d rather mount your phone to look at that rather than have to plug it in and then use the screen?

Help! How do i get this tight screw out? by longshlong42069666 in handyman

I’ve never gotten a screw extractor to work and I’m not sure why

Asking The Older Men, As A Young Trying Man, Does It Get Better? by Plenty_Ad8631 in AskMenOver30

[–]Ok_Island_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a father, he’s still alive and doing well, he’s a wonderful guy but not a mentor at all. He is kind and worked hard but that’s about all he was able to teach me. No advice for life, girlfriends, or building a career because he’s not much of a communicator. Most of it I’ve had to figure out on my own, it took longer than I would’ve liked it to. As someone said above “no, it does not get easier. You just get better”.

How to I start a handyman business from square one? by visivopro in handyman

[–]Ok_Island_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s on the list this week actually. Flying back from Boston to LA currently and going to figure it out the next few days. I’ll let you know what I come up with. I did just about everything non union but got into the sculptors and set painters unions so I have two cards. Didn’t get in until I was 36 and been going hard the past 8 years. Wife and I are in the adoption process, so I suppose I have one on the way as well. Just want more time with the family like yourself. There’s just no balance in the film biz. I do still enjoy but just as more of a day player

How to I start a handyman business from square one? by visivopro in handyman

[–]Ok_Island_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Film biz here too, just started about 6 months ago. just set up my LLC and whatnot. Can help you with that, it’s pretty straightforward just don’t pay anyone to do it, do it on the govt website. For years friends have been asking me to fix things bc I built houses for many years and then got into sets in my 30’s but I’ve felt burned out the last few years. I’m just trying to pick up quick jobs on commercials and then do handyman stuff between so I’m just figuring out how to market as well. Also I don’t want to build or renovate anything, just want to do quick fixes

Loss of empathy after tripping by No_Investigator4013 in shrooms

[–]Ok_Island_1306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that it helps me see things in black and white, either good or bad. I now see alcohol as not good for me as well as fast food. I see certain of my own behaviors as good or bad, for example procrastination. I saw my lack of communication as a bad thing. Maybe you saw them for who they are, whatever that means. Maybe you no longer feel like you have empathy for them bc they are always complaining and never taking action to remedy their situation? This is a stab in the dark bc I don’t know you, them or your relationship but this is what it makes me think of.

I have a partner but it’s my wife, not sure I would go in with someone I’m not married to. I’m also in LA and just started recently as well.

I was visiting my family a mile away and we heard helicopter’s overheard for a long time. I didn’t even notice bc I live in mid city Los Angeles and I’m very accustomed to helicopters circling but it tipped my folks off that something was going down.

How are people surviving financially this year? by askhalid in FilmIndustryLA

[–]Ok_Island_1306 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Side gigs are the jam! I’m a union sculptor/ set painter but I stick to commercials and do handyman work between gigs. Also in mid wilshire. It’s nice to have something else going on. I don’t like solely relying on the biz and it’s good to have some variety for work as well.

What temperature do you have your air conditioning set on? by 1904worldsfair in Frugal

I’m the same. I want to try one of those beds that regulates temperature, so maybe I won’t have to have my AC so cold though
